It was only a matter of time before some cheap Chinese clone of Amazon’s Kindle digital book reader would find its way to market.

This knock-off – from a company called “Wefound” – is a dead ringer for the Kindle 2. From the slim white case to the 6-inch screen, to its nubby little keyboard, the Wefound E-Book reader is sure to raise the hackles of Amazon’s legal team. Other than the fact that the default character set is Chinese, and the square navigation joystick has been replaced with a round one, it looks nearly identical to the Kindle 2. (Although I’m sure under the hood, it’s not).

Just like the Kindle 2, the Wefound claims it will be able to download books over a cellular connection (you need to provide your own SIM card). They plan on releasing their E-Book reader by the end of the year in Japan for about $210 (USD). Me I’d rather plunk down an extra $90 bucks and get the real deal.

No, this oddly-shaped pink gadget isn’t some sort of sex toy. Unless you think that playing with your Wii is a stimulating experience.

What you’re looking at here is the Conny Q3 Sports, a video game console out of China that’s designed to play like the Nintendo Wii, but for a whole lot less money. While the Wii will set you back $250 smackers, the Q3 Sports sells for just $99 (USD), including 5 games.

While the Conny Q3 does include a wireless 3D motion-sensing controller, it’s definitely not a full-fledged Wii competitor. That’s because it plays ONLY those 5 games, and that’s it. If you don’t like dancing (aka “Hot Dance”), fishing, bowling, golf or tennies you’re S.O.L. Yep, that’s right it plays, tennies. Apparently they couldn’t afford to include tennis, so they had to settle for that instead. At least it’s got Cutie Sports!

The compact orb-shaped console comes in either pink or blue, and claims to run on a 32-bit CPU that’s capable of running on just 3 AA-batteries, so the console is actually portable. Still, if you really can’t afford to buy a Wii, I say save your money until you can. I managed to dig up a video clip of the Q3 in action in case you still need any convincing. Be warned, the video is playing from a Chinese video site, so may be a little slow to load…

If you couldn’t get the video to play, you’re not missing much. I suppose if you’re really desperate, head on over to DealExtreme and plunk down your $99 bucks. Just don’t come crying to me when you’ve mastered dancing, and all you’ve got left is a match of tennies.

Does this handheld gaming system look familiar at all? When I first saw it, I had to do a double-take too.

While the PXP-900 steals more thant a few of it’s design cues from the Sony PSP, don’t expect it to play the latest PSP games – it only plays retro game ROMs. The system is the latest and greatest cheapie jack-of-all-trades media player, digicam, audio book reader, FM radio, gaming combo system fresh from the streets of China.

The handheld runs an emulator that can play NES, Famicom, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Super Famicom, SEGA MegaDrive and some sort of 32-bit ROM games too (although the product description doesn’t elaborate). And while most retro games are built for a 4:3 screen ratio, it looks like the console works some sort of stretchy magic to make games play on its 4.3″ widescreen 16:9 LCD.

So if you’re willing to take a gamble on one of these questionable mutant consoles, you can find the PXP-900 over at Chinagrabber for $89.99 (USD).

While rumors continue to abound of Apple releasing an iPhone Nano someday, you can get your hands on a miniature iPhone right now – just as long as you don’t mind that it’s a cheap Chinese knock-off that’s clearly violating just about every intellectual property law you can think of.

The CECT m188 borrows its looks and menus from the original iPhone, but smashes them into a package that’s just 86mm x 48mm x 11mm, making it about the size of a credit card (and just about as thick as a standard iPhone). The screen measures in at 2.6″ diagonal, and while it is touch-sensitive, you’ll really want to use a stylus with it.

While it’s definitely no iPhone, the m188 is definitely an interesting novelty. The phone is completely unlocked and works on 900/1800/1900Mhz GSM networks around the world. As an added bonus, the m188 supports dual SIM cards, in case you have phone service with two different providers. I’m not sure why you’d really need this – one phone bill is plenty for me.

There’s also GPRS connectivity for data transmission, a built-in MP3 player, MP4/AVI video player, and an FM radio with scheduled recording capability. There’s also a digital camera, but it’s only 640×480 resolution which is REALLY lame.

In case you’re interested, here’s a video of the little phone being unboxed and showing off some of its features.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can find the CECT m188 over at Bigboxstore for just about $100 (USD). There are also a bunch of these floating around over on eBay.

When you think classic video games, two names come to mind PacBoy and Space Intruder, right? No? Well even if those aren’t the games you remember from your childhood, it’s the best you’re gonna do if you pick up these cheap-o handhelds on sale over in the UK.

Judging from the crappy-looking black-and-white LCD screens below, the real Pac-Man and Space Invaders have absolutely nothing to worry about.

But don’t trust me to tell you how awful these games look or play. Instead, watch this brilliant video review from a couple of UK teens for the real low-down:

I think you’ll definitely get more entertainment watching that review than from playing the games themselves. If you really feel like throwing away your money on one of these, you can find ‘em over at Amazon UK for about £8.44 for the pair (appx. $12.50 USD). Me, I’d rather play with the sharp edges of the plastic clamshell packaging they ship in.

The V-Sports console from Hong Kong electronics outfit Rumdes does its best to copy the motion controller concept of Wii Sports, but without any of those pesky Nintendo games. The cheapie game system retails for just ¥8000 in Japan (about $74 USD) and comes packed with 11 sports games that use the included motion controller, making it even more of a bargain basement deal.

And if you act now, the console comes with an additional 10 arcade and puzzle games to keep your mind and reflexes sharp.

From what I can tell, the console plays what are old 16-bit games, modified to take advantage of a rudimentary wireless motion controller. And unlike the real Wii, the V comes in three colors: white, blue and pink, so there’s one each for boys, girls, and everyone in between.

With a real Wii retailing for $249, I suppose you could buy 3 of these instead, but I have a funny feeling that V-Sports console will be less than 1/3rd the fun.

Here’s the latest, greatest, phoniest knock-off console to surface from China. While the MiWi video game system might steal some of its looks from the Nintendo Wii, that’s about where the similarities end.

Created by China’s Eittek Electronics, the 9800 MiWi video game system comes with a pair of wireless controllers which do their best to mock Wii-motes. Heck, even the logotype on the packaging looks strikingly similar to the Wii’s.

But these guys didn’t stop at swiping their ideas from current-gen Nintendo consoles. Notice how the MiWi’s joystick bears more than a passing resemblance to the classic N64 controller (in white)?

The MiWi claims to play WiiSports-esque games including boxing, ping pong, tennins, golf, baseball, soccer and bowling, but from the look of the cartridges it includes, don’t count on anything more than a retro 16-bit gaming experience. The best news about the MiWi is that it packs in a whopping 23 games in the box, so your chances of them all sucking equally are reduced. Then again, I’ve been wrong before.

If you’re really dying to get your hands on one of these oddities, good luck. Brush up on your Chinese, and head on over to TV Sportsgame.

The latest gadget to crawl out from the seamy underbelly of the Chinese gaming underground. Not to be confused with the GameBoy, the Cool Boy is a portable game system that plays a variety of old school 8-bit and 16-bit console titles.

From what I can tell, the Cool Boy is one of those systems that plays emulated NES and SEGA console games, and the only way to get them is through questionable packages like this 120-in-1 cartridge that clearly includes copyrighted works from major game studios like EA, Nintendo and Disney.

The cartridge claims to include all sorts of classics like Donkey Kong, Galaga, Tetris, Xevious and Lode Runner among others, but I strongly suspect that the games are either knock-offs or illegal bootlegs. The portable system includes a 2.4″ LCD screen (480×240 resolution), and can even output to a TV using its built-in AV port.

Still, the system is only about $36, and the 120 game cartridge around $8 bucks. So you’re not taking too much of a risk if the whole thing craps out in a month. If you’re willing to take a gamble, you can grab both the Cool Boy system and 120-in-1 game cartridge from importer DealExtreme.

Here’s a suspicious looking mobile phone from China that manages to infringe on at least a couple of prominent brands in one feature-packed device.

When opened up, the ZTC 8898 mobile not only looks mimics of the looks of HTC’s QWERTY phones, it claims to “simulate” 8-bit NES games too. If that’s not enough potential copyright violation, there’s mysterious Windows and Internet Explorer logos on the keyboard.

The jam-packed GSM/GPRS phone has two color LCD displays (and at least the one on the outside has a touchscreen), bluetooth connectivity and has dual SIM card slots too. In addition it offers audio and video media players, e-mail and internet connectivity. In keeping with the kitchen sink feature list, there’s also a 1.3 megapixel camera and six pint-sized speakers built in.

If you’re willing to take a gamble, the whole package is available from DealExtreme for $189 USD.
