Super Mario and Zelda Roombas: Beware the Goomba Roomba

These custom Super Mario and Zelda themed Roomba covers are awesome and adorable. It’s like the games coming alive in your living room, while your place is simultaneously getting cleaned. How cool is that?

Sadly we can’t have these in our own homes, because these particular covers were created for last Fall’s SUPER iam8bit, a group art exhibition that showcased over 100 artists bringing to life their 80′s video game memories, and they’re already spoken for. These cute floor dwellers come from a collaboration between iRobot and fiber artist Kelice Penney.

There’s the Goomba from the Super Mario games, green and red Koopa shells from Super Mario Kart and even the Octorok from The Legend of Zelda. I wish I could have these guys roaming around my house. Maybe they will be mass-produced some day. What other spinny video game characters do you think would make a good Roomba?

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Gold Wiimote Coming November 20th

Ready yourself to save Hyrule yet again with the release of Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. But it isn’t a sword that you will be raising skyward, instead you will have a shiny new gold Wiimote.

A golden Wii Remote Plus actually. And now we have a release date and pricing. After all you have to buy it first, before you can save Princess Zelda for the umpteenth time. I thought sisters were doing it for themselves these days. Not her apparently.

It will arrive at retailers on November 20th. That’s when you’ll be able to get your hands on the golden Wii remote bundle for $69.99 (USD). Or you can choose the game by itself for $49.99 (USD). No matter which you choose, you will also get The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert music CD.

Better start saving up.

Zelda and Peach Catch Up

What would Zelda and Peach talk about if they got together for a cup of coffee? Well, College Humor decided to see where this would go. It’s probably best that these two video game characters don’t come out and play too often. They’d get annoying pretty quickly.

It turns out that both Peach and Zelda prefer their kidnappers to Mario and Link. It looks to me like they developed Stockholm syndrome, and actually like spending time with Bowser and Ganondorf.

There are plenty of funny revelations that both of these girls share. My favorite part was when Ganondorf picked up Zelda for couple’s yoga.

Legend of Zelda Prototype Surfaces: Easier to Play, But Just as Fun

Ah, The Legend of Zelda. I played that game for hours and hours and I wasn’t the only one. The game also hooked my sister, who no longer plays any video games, but still loves Zelda. An early build of the first Zelda has surfaced that wasn’t as hard as the one we all played on our NES.

The game is filled with odd glitches, new music, and sprite changes. These kinds of prototypes are very rare and usually don’t find their way out to the public. The prototype images are on the left while the real Zelda scans are on the right. There are less enemies in the prototype, and money is easier to come by.

Legend of Zelda Hats, Almost Better Than the Minish Cap

Sometimes you just have to warm your head, so you might as well do it in style… in Legend of Zelda style, at that. Link’s hats are part of the iconic character’s charm, and now you can dress your head just like perennial hero, so long as you’ve got a handful of rupees to spare.

Of course, if you prefer a different shade of green or perhaps a nice red, no worries–there’s a fleece hat for all tastes, so long as those tastes involve Nintendo characters. If you have to have something more absurdly elaborate, there are even Kingdom Hearts hats available from the same Etsy shop.

You’ll pay through the nose (head?) for one of those fancier numbers, however–that Kingdom Hearts hat is $50, compared to an average of $26 for the other available designs.

Sadly, all pointy ears sold separately.

Glowing Zelda Belt Buckle Lights the Way

When I think Legend of Zelda, I think glowing belt buckles. Okay, no, actually I think of Link holding things over his head, but there’s nothing that says you couldn’t hold this modded belt buckle (belt! buckle! mod!) over your head. In fact, if it was mine? That’s exactly what I’d do.

At this point, you’re probably thinking, “okay, neat and all, but glowing? I know from glowing, and that’s not glowing.” Wait, friends. There’s more.

It’s a flashlight in a belt buckle. It lights the way… from directly above your crotch. Glorious.

BenHeck.com forum regular ShockSlayer wanted to give his belt buckle a little flash(light), so with the aid of a trusty LED, a drill, some epoxy, and a couple of batteries, he put together the most outrageous belt buckle I’ve ever seen. Rodeo belts got nothing on this.

Life-Sized Link is Made of Paper

Link, the boy hero from a legion of Legend of Zelda games, is a popular subject for sculptures and fan art of all sorts, like this life-sized model. There’s just one catch with this example, though–it’s made entirely of paper.

From this distance? I, at least, can’t tell at all that this is papercraft. I’ve seen dozens of wax replicas that look far worse! Up close, however, Link’s pulpy origins begin to emerge, particularly in the hands and face.

But even the lines from folding and fitting look good. Looks almost like he was carved from wood. I have to say that this is probably the coolest papercraft example I’ve ever seen… and you can even watch the entire process in an epic collection. This guy was not messing around. Here’s the final video:

A Link to the Quilt

The Wind Waker was a somewhat controversial entry in The Legend of Zelda series due to the childlike cel-shaded graphics, which many fans felt didn’t suit the franchise. No one could possibly object to Wind Waker Link on this quilt, though. And the best part? No sailing.

Okay, so this isn’t actually a quilt. Instead, it’s a quilted design sewn onto a comforter–quicker, easier, and really, pretty awesome (but with less work involved). In fact, if you can quilt a little, you might even be able to do this yourself. Who wouldn’t want to go to bed with Link every night?

Okay, now we may be back to controversy for the childlike element of the design. Regardless, the blanket is awesome.

Tingle Soon to be Back for Another Round [Nintendo]

Along with sporting one of the wackiest titles in gaming history, Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland also has one of the most unusual heroes of all time. It looks like the chubby money-loving man is back for another installment… or will be soon.

Tingle, a spin-off from The Legend of Zelda series, first appeared in Majora’s Mask for the Nintendo 64. A new Japanese website has turned up, advertising what is likely a new Tingle game, though the details are almost nonexistent (and also, in Japanese). The site does feature a date, however: June 18. It seems likely an announcement will be forthcoming soon.

Tingle’s last outing was never cleared for U.S. release (though it appeared in Europe) and is a cult favorite simply due to the oddity of the character and his game. Can’t wait to see what he might do next!
