Rare Zippo Lighter Fires Bullets, Not Fire

This isn’t an official Zippo-issued lighter (because I doubt it would be legal to do so) but it’s way cooler than any other standard-issue they’ve released thus far.

Roll the flint wheel on this lighter but make sure your face is a safe distance away from the barrel unless you want a mini bullet to hit you straight in the face. It won’t be a very pretty sight if you do.

This miniature gun encased in a lighter’s body was sold at an auction in 2006 for around $6,810 to an unnamed buyer. Aside from the gun/lighter, the lot included eight 6mm copper-cased cartridges mounted in a yellow Ronson flint dispenser.

That said, it might be a good idea to try out lighters that you happen to chance upon at arm’s length, just in case you happen to pick up a lighter that’s actually a gun in disguise. Talk about a smoking hazard.

Lightning LED Watch Would Be Better If It Used Actual Flames

This unusual watch concept from the Ukraine gets its inspiration from cigarette lighters.

Actually, at first glance at the Lightning LED watch concept, I thought it looked like an electric cooktop, but then those tiny blue and yellow “flames” that go around the perimeter to indicate hours and minutes threw me. Maybe a hybrid gas/electric cooktop would look like this – at least one you can wear on your wrist.

It would be really cool (if not a bit dangerous) if those flames were actually powered by butane, and you could walk around and have a flaming watch on your wrist.

If you love this design (in LED form, that is), head on over to TokyoFlash and vote for it – if they get enough votes, they’ll actually produce it. One thing that’s bugging me. I don’t know why it’s called the Lightning watch, when it says “fire!!!” right there on the front – I think that’s a much more appropriate name. I’d expect a lightning watch to shoot off bolts of electricity around inside of it. Ooh, cool. I gotta get on that idea and submit it to TokyoFlash.

Lighters Hacked into Motorcycles… Seriously

Sometimes a picture really isn’t worth a 1000 words. You will see what I mean after perusing the photos of this sweet hack below. A geek took some disposable lighters, took the things apart, and used the pieces to make tiny motorcycles.

It’s really cool, but the pics really don’t give you an idea of the entire scope of how to do this. If you are a Grade-A maker of weird things, maybe you can pull it off too. I don’t smoke, but I might buy a lighter just to try this. If the thing would spark as you roll it, I would have a nerdgasm.

Check out the build pics at Imgur to see the finished product. It’s cool and really looks like a motorcycle. My kids would go crazy for these and if you work out how to do it, let us know.

High Power Nerf Cannon Mod Fires Balls Up to 75 Feet

Hacker Kipkay is up to his tricks again. In his latest instructional video clip, he shows us how to turn an ordinary NERF gun into a high-power portable cannon.

The modded NERF cannon uses the parts from a lighter, and a whiff of unscented deodorant as fuel to send projectiles sailing up to 75 feet through the air. Check out the video below for the basic instructions to make your own:

Looftlighter: Flame on Without a Flame on

Instead of fire, or even sparks, the Looftlighter uses hot air – hot as in more than 1000°F – to light things up. The Looftlighter is named after its inventor, Richard Lighter. No wait: his real name is Richard Looft, a (former?) theater director who got tired of having his barbecued chicken taste like lighter fluid. So Looft did what any Swedish theater director in his right mind would do: “He poured coal into a toaster”. No-brainer right? Even a third grader can guess what Looft did next: “he turned the flow around in a vacuum cleaner and discovered that the coal got ready to use in just a few minutes!” I mean come on. I could’ve thought of that.

It’s not the quickest way to start a fire, and when you first fire it up it may seems like it’s not doing anything, but because it doesn’t use lighter fluid you’ll save a lot in the long run. That and your chicken barbecue won’t taste like lighter fluid anymore. Unless you actually put lighter fluid on it.

Namco Meet Zippo: Classic Arcade Game Lighters

Having cut my gaming teeth on the classic Namco arcade games of the 1980s, I just had to give these new Namco 8-bit video game cigarette lighters a mention.

Created in celebration of Pac-Man’s impending 30th birthday (boy, I feel old), these limited-edition series of Zippo lighters from Banpresto includes shiny, butane-filled versions of Pac-Man, Galaxian, Xevious and Dig Dug. Each one features the pixelated likenesses of the classic 8-bit games – although I have to say I like the tiny little tactile Galaxians the best. Although I would argue that Galaga was the true classic. And while I don’t smoke, I’ll buy just about anything with Dig Dug on it, so I’m sold.

They sell for ¥8400 (appx. $93 USD) each, so I guess I’ll have to skip meals this week so I can afford one. For now, I’ve only found these in Japan, but hopefully somebody will export these for all to enjoy. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.

Boy You Lookin’ Hot: Mini Lighter Cufflinks

You’ve been stealing glances at each other the whole night. All you see is that hot little number with the shiny red dress, everything else is black and white. She finishes her drink, and sashays off to the terrace, the light bouncing off her hips as they sway. You adjust your tie and follow her. You reach her side just as she’s putting a cigarette in her mouth. You twirl your right hand and snap with the left. A modest but firm flame appears on your wrist. Your eyes meet and reflect the flame as she lights up. She inhales for half a second, blows smoke for 3 more, puts her lips next to your ear and whispers, “Douche.”

I mean come on! Who else aside from MacGyver can pull off a get-up involving mini lighter cufflinks? Even James Bond in the 70s would’ve had laser beam cufflinks. Richard Dean Anderson, the cufflinks are sold by YougNeek at Etsy for $40 (USD). They’re currently sold out, so you might want to use your charms to wrangle a pair off of YougNeek. Or better yet, take a good look at the cufflinks and then go make your own.

Start a Fire With Style – Pac-Man Style

If you have to have a lighter, it might as well be a Zippo… and if you have to have a Zippo, it might as well have Pac-Man on it. This is logic, people, born of science. Don’t try to dispute it.

30th anniversary Pac-Man lighters, just the thing to hand down to the grandchildren someday. Oh, tie-in merchandise. Never change–particularly if you look this spiffy. I’m not a big fan of lighters or anything (is anyone?), but I have to admit that these Zippos are sporting a pretty nifty design. I think I’m particularly fond of the simplicity of design #3, though #1–”Game”–is pretty nice.

Pac-Man’s actual 30th anniversary isn’t until next year, but it looks like people are gonna start early by getting a jump on the other celebratory gear. All hail a year of Pac-Man! I’m for it.

Flash Drive / Lighter Combo: Why is My Pc on Fire?

Every time I think I’ve seen every possible USB flash memory gimmick, another one comes along and does something I never thought was necessary. This flash drive not only stores your precious files, it’s got a built-in cigarette lighter.

I’m not convinced that a device filled with lighter fluid is a good thing to plug into any power source, but that’s just me. If you happen to have one of those laptops with an overheating battery, the butane in this thing would make for a nice pyrotechnic show. I suppose if you could use USB to actually control the flame, that would be pretty cool though.

If you just absolutely have to light up while you’re at your PC, they’re available from Memlite in several candy-like colors, and in memory sizes from 512MB (appx. $25 USD) to 4GB (appx. $75 USD.)
