There’s no such thing as being too old to play a video game, but I’m not sure if I can say the same about carrying a lunchbox. And I’m not brave or geeky enough to use a console as one. But if you – or your kids – aren’t too cool for old school, you should definitely check out this converted NES console lunchbox.

Each lunchbox is made out of dead, irreparable NES consoles and is “stripped, primed, repainted, then given four coats of clear acrylic to look brand new.” It also has a velvet cushion inside to cradle your Yoo-Hoo and Twinkies. As you’ll see in the gallery below, it also has a custom variant, where you can change the name on the outside and even embroider a message inside, like the haiku in the sample case.

You can order the NES lunchbox from VoodooWares on Etsy. The standard versions sells for $45 (USD), while the customized ones sell for $75. Combo it with the mouse belt buckle for maximum geekiness.

Whether you’re performing services for the Republic or Imperial Army, you need to be sure to eat well every day. That’s why this Stormtrooper lunchbox is perfect for keeping your lunch meats and juice box safe from blaster pistol fire.

I actually stumbled onto this hand-stenciled Stormtrooper metal lunchbox ($20 / $27 with Thermos) over at last weekend’s Renegade Craft Fair here in Chicago. I can’t tell you too much about it, other than the fact that it’s awesome, and made by some guys named Jed and Jason from an outfit known as Urban Retro Styling. It looks like their website is still in the “under construction” phase right now, so your best bet is to drop Jed a message, and I’m sure he’d be happy to sell you one.

Do you love Nintendo AND tasty noontime sandwiches? If you do, then this Nintendo case lunchbox project is probably right up your alley.

Here’s the skinny: you open up the Nintendo case, take out the guts, file down the interior plastic rods with a rotary tool, attach hinges, reglue the power buttons on, and voila! You’ve got a lunchbox that’s sure to get looks of admiration and delight from all those who share the office fridge.

I’m not exactly sure why Alpha Flight’s Sasquatch is in the pictures. I guess he’s kind of doing the Vanna White thing.

If you’ve got a busted Nintendo, a free afternoon, and a hankering for a turkey on rye and some ice-cold Capri-Sun, then check out the how-to that Fluctifragus put up on Instructables.

The other day, I came across this Cold war-era Geiger Counter PC casemod, and passed along the erroneous notion that it was created by some Russian modder. In fact, it was built by a guy named Andy over at widefault, right here in the good old US of A. While I was over checking out the build log for Andy’s Fallout Meter PC, I happened upon another one of his creations and thought it was worthy of a mention.

Widefault happens to spend his days working near a Goodwill thrift store, and happened upon this plastic lunchbox when he was trolling the aisles one day. He thought to himself – what better use for this thing than to house a firewall for his network? With a little X-Acto knife work, Widefault transformed the lunchbox into a quick-and-easy computer.

Since it didn’t need to be all that powerful to run the GNU/Linux-based Smoothwall firewall app, the lunchbox packs a compact Via C3 motherboard, along with a low-voltage power supply and an inexpensive 4GB Compact Flash memory card for storage. All told, the entire project cost under $100 bucks.

While a 2007 Hot Wheels lunchbox isn’t exactly a rare retro artifact, it certainly could have carried some kid’s PB & J and Juicy Juice for at least one semester before meeting its maker.
