I came across this cool video on YouTube that shows off some pretty cool interaction with Nintendo’s Wii-mote controller.

The video shows off a nifty typographic animation designed by Erik Loyer which lets the user move the Wii-mote to influence the rendering of the text. As the controller moves, the text moves to match the angle and velocity of the control.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

For his demonstration, entitled “Swing,” Loyer shakes his controller to the tune of a hip Kurt Elling tune. As the lyrics appear on screen, they swing and bounce rhythmically to the music. The video is a bit long, but you’ll get the idea pretty quickly.

This clip from a live performance of music from Nintendo games reveals a little known fact. The highly recognizable theme song for Super Mario Brothers actually has lyrics.

The song is actually titled “Go Go Mario” and the lyrics are in Japanese.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Luckily a dedicated fan took the time to write up a translation of the words into English. Here’s an excerpt:

Today, full of energy, Mario is still running, running
Go save Princess Peach! Go!
Today, full of energy, Mario runs
Today, full of energy, jumping!
Today, full of energy, searching for coins
Today, keep going, Mario!

Get a mushroom – it’s Super Mario!
Get a flower – it’s Fire Mario!

Goomba! Troopa! Buzzy Beetle! Beat them all!
Mario is always full of energy and strong!

I suppose it’s better than the lyrics to the Star Trek theme.
