This may be the coolest mailbox ever. Too bad it can’t just phaser your junk mail before it enters the shuttlecraft docking bay. Also too bad it can’t use a tractor beam to get the mail from the box to your door. Why didn’t I think of this? This DIY Star Trek mailbox is solar-powered and lights up, which must look amazing at night.

Its five-year mission: To explore new credit card offers, to seek out new deals in circulars, to boldly go nowhere, since it is stuck on its post.

If I can make a request, now I want to see you DIY-ers make a Millenium Falcon mailbox, and a Death Star mailbox. Then I would like you to sell them to me cheap. We need geekier mailboxes, people. Get on it.

I have seen quite a few unusual mailboxes over the years, but this is definitely one of the nicest ones that I’ve seen. It was made handmade by Craig Smith for his front porch

This X-Wing Mailbox has survived 5 years without being vandalized or stolen, which is quite impressive. One of the main reasons why it wasn’t stolen is probably its size: it’s got a 5-foot wingspan and is five feet long. (He also must live in a really good neighborhood.)

Perfectionists may say that this mailbox doesn’t have an R2 unit or astromech droid (or a tiny Luke in the cockpit). But I’ll forgive Craig for these minor omissions. It’s still the coolest mailbox on the block.

Space Invaders Mailbox Delivers First-Class Aliens

It’s been a little while since we featured any Space Invaders around here. So here goes nothing… Space… Invaders… Mailbox…

This special delivery comes to us courtesy of Nimcraft. While Nim thinks the mailbox invaders are “un-perfectly painted”, I don’t care. It’s way cooler than any of the mailboxes in my neighborhood.

Computer Mailboxes Receive Snail Mail, Not E-Mail

Even though we already have e-mail, I think it will still take some time before we abandon snail mails. In the mean time, why don’t we give our plain old mailboxes a (fake) hardware upgrade? Here are a couple of ideas to get you started. I know we can do a lot better, because these are some ugly-ass prototypes.

This is the appropriately named Computer Mailbox , from Morgan Home Accents:

But what of Apple loyalists? They need ugly mailboxes too. I don’t know if anyone’s selling iMailboxes, but someone with initiative and an old G4 case went and made one for herself/himself:

As of now computer mailboxes come form an opposite universe, where Apple-branded ones are infinitely cheaper than other computer mailboxes. Sure, they’re both ugly, but at least the other person didn’t pay for his ugly G4 mailbox.

So get your creative juices flowing and build your own computer mailbox. You never know, maybe you’ll be the next Etsy superstar. If there is such a title.
