My mom didn’t really introduce me to makeup; I sort of discovered it on my own in the middle of college. (Much later than most, I know.) I like experimenting with new looks sometimes, although I usually just stick with my basic routine whenever I go out because I don’t want to risk looking like a raccoon if I mess up.

This 20-year-old South Korean girl named Dal-mi Bae, however, knew her makeup – and she loved it so much that she didn’t remove it for two whole years.

According to the news, though, Bae had become so obsessed with makeup that she would constantly apply and re-apply layer upon layer of makeup until she didn’t want to remove it anymore. Bae reportedly said: “I wanted to look perfect at all time. I even slept with the makeup on.”

And so, sleep with makeup on she did.

Bae was finally convinced by her mother and a dermatologists who were at a variety show to remove her makeup. She consented, and after the skin doctors checked her skin, the results were pretty obvious: her skin was now that of a 40 year-old – two times older than her actual age.

Oh, the price of (faux) beauty.

Are there spies and sleuths reading our blog? Silly question. Of course there are. They monitor everything. From a nondescript white van no doubt. Listen, you didn’t hear it from me but Brando is selling flash drives that look like a lipstick. Pretty sneaky eh? It’s not actually a lipstick though, so don’t try to smear your lips with it or you’ll give yourself away.

Engrish aside, I love how Brando describes this product: “built-in flash memory lets you store your data on the go.” Yes. Because that’s the notable thing about this particular product, not that it looks like something else entirely.

Ask your mole to use someone else’s credit card and purchase the USB lipstick flash drive from Brando. It’s available in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models, priced at $16 (USD), $18 and $25 respectively. But you already knew that didn’t you.

It never ceases to amaze me when we go somewhere just how much stuff my wife has to take with her. I can get a Walmart bag and pack all I need to get by for a week inside the thing. My wife, on the other hand has one of those giant suitcases that we could use to smuggle our kids onto a plane. A bunch of the room is usually taken up by her makeup.

These faux gun makeup bags also have an antique hairpin, USB stick, gold toothpick, a barrel full of pills (including Viagra), and a spot for a 100g silver bullion in the “cheap” version and a 50g 24k gold bar in the top-of-the-line model. Why you would need to carry a gold bar with you, I don’t know. It appears that the perfume comes out the barrel when you squeeze that little bulb.

There are two versions, a white Dior 001 version that costs about $11,500 (USD), and a black Chanel version that will cost you $17,000. Both of them have branded cosmetics inside like lip gloss and perfume. (In)conveniently, the cosmetics can only be filled at the gallery of the designer, Dutchman Ted Noten.

I get that makeup is a big deal for some women, but I can’t imagine spending $17,000 on a makeup compact that looks like a gun. First off, this thing would get you shot in some areas, and you will certainly find yourself in the company of a TSA agent doing a cavity search at the airport if you try to fly with this thing in your bag.

Putting on makeup can be a real time consumer for women. In order to save time, some women have even gone to the extreme step of having their makeup tattooed on. I can see where it would be a real time-saver even if changing colors would be a big problem after a tattoo.

In the future makeup might not use powders and paints; it might involve LEDs and wires. Designer Lulin Ding has developed an LED Eyeshadow concept that puts small lights in the corner of the eye. The designer says that the light essentially paints the eyelid with color.

The LED lights stick in the corner of the wearer’s eye, and then the wires that power them run over the eyebrow and behind the ear. The round thing hanging behind the ladies ear in the pictures is apparently the electronics and power source needed for the lights. I expect to see something like this on a pop star like Lady Gaga someday soon.

In a perfect world, there wouldn’t be any female gamers, but instead, just gamers. Instead, sadly, we live in this world, and someone thinks girl gamers feel the need to disguise their gear as clutch bags and makeup. That’s the knee-jerk reaction for most geek chicks, anyway.

But manufacturer Thrustmaster just may know what they’re doing after all: the product page indicates the DS Silver Pack is targeted at younger gamers. And while we could argue about whether or not young girls should feel like they have to hide their gaming, the point is that some girls just might want to store their DS cartridges in a case that looks like it should hold eyeshadow instead.

For those who like things a little less shiny, Thrustmaster has other goodies, like their urban bag, complete with a few space invaders.

See? And you thought this was going to be all high-handed. Anything that gets most of your gaming gear in one place gets my vote, even if it pink. The full Silver Pack set, with all the makeup-style cases, runs $35, but if you’re only in the market for a shiny bag with the DS logo, that can be had for $16. The brown bag runs about $14 at various online retailers.

In what could be the final death-blow to the floundering HD DVD format, Hollywood actors can now cover up all their nasty facial flaws with this new makeup line, specifically designed for hiding imperfections on high definition video shoots.

Despite its name, Cargo’s Blu-ray makeup isn’t what the Blue Man Group puts on before a show. The collection was actually created because, according to its maker, “life happens in high definition”. It’s perfect for those performers who don’t want every pore, wrinkle and zit to show up larger than life on all those new 70-inch LCD Full HD screens.

I’m not sure if Sony sanctioned the makeup’s naming convention, but it surely can’t be too upset — after all, they could have named it after HD DVD. Hollywood has spoken, and I think we have a winner.
