Google Android Modify Watch: It’s Robot Time!

Fans of the Google Android platform have a new way to celebrate their love for Android’s familiar green mascot. By putting it on their wrists. Sadly, these watches don’t interact with your Android smartphone, they just feature Google’s Android mascot on the watch face.

These watches come from a collaboration between Google and Modify Watches. Aside from these Android versions they also have watches that feature Google’s Chrome logo and the Google logo. So Google fans are well covered.

Modify Watches are built so you can mix-and-match faces and straps to create the watch the way you like it. You can buy one now for now for $59.95(USD) from the Google store. I like the Android mascot myself, but that seems a bit steep for branding my wrist with a no-frills watch. If you beg to differ, head over to the Google store and buy one.

Android Mascot Easter Egg Found in Samsung Galaxy S II ROM

It’s not uncommon at all to find all sorts of hidden content inside software and other devices today. These are called Easter eggs and the latest strange Easter egg to surface comes from the ROM of a guy’s Samsung Galaxy S II. The Galaxy S II is one of the more powerful Android smartphones on the market.

The image is the one you see above. It’s a shot of the little Android mascot that everyone will recognize. Rather than its typical green look it’s dressed up in a costume that looks like Ironman with the Flash logo on the front. What should we call this little guy? Irondroid? Flashman?

Ironflashdroid man perhaps? This is very strange indeed and apparently at some point during the process of creating the ROM for the smartphone one of the devs had extra time on his or her hands. What would you call this new superhero?

Ric-Rolled: Mascots to Soon be Replaced With Robots

If you thought that the derelicts they have walking around city streets donning smelly mascot costumes and trying to hand you flyers for hot dogs and prepaid cell phone cards weren’t creepy enough, have I got something for you! Pretty soon, those guys will be replaced by robots.

Thanks to the brilliant devious minds of Japan’s RT Corporation, this new robot known as RIC (Robot Inside Character) will soon be wandering the streets and aisles at trade shows, terrorizing children and old people to the point that they really will need to buy some Robot Insurance.

RIC might look cute and cuddly on the surface, but under its skin, it’s something that Sarah Connor would want to crush under an industrial press until the lights go out in its eyeballs. The good news is that you could probably overpower the thing if it ever ran amok. Thankfully, it only stands about 4 feet tall, and weighs about 15 pounds. It’s controlled by 20 Futaba servo motors and can be upgraded to as many as 30, based on the specific use case (and how many weapons you plan to attach).

If you’ve got 2,000,000 yen (appx $20,000 USD) lying around you can get your own RIC and set it loose on unsuspecting children and grandparents.

Reddit Brings Bacon Scent to Your Shower

Don’t fret if that title doesn’t make any sense. This bacon-scented soap celebrating reddit’s admittedly adorable mascot doesn’t make any sense, either, except that, well, the alien is cute, and bacon is delicious. But with those truisms out of the way, there’s no explaining the bacon reddit soap. There is only awe sprinkled with shock.

The soap, shown here next to lesser, non-bacony soap for size comparison, is also available in a fruitier version for those of you who don’t want to step out of the shower smelling like bacon. For $9, you can get a 10 ounce bar of orange- or bacon-scented glycerin soap, and a fresh (sort of) scent that will stick to you all day.

Bacon soap will either bring people closer or drive them away, and I’m not really sure which one is better.

Domo-Kun Mod Makes a Toothy 360

I’m happy to report that Domo-kun is adorable anywhere… even on the hulking side of an Xbox 360. In fact, the strange creature himself brings a beautiful color scheme to the console, and the result is a chocolaty confection of cuteness that suits the 360 very well.

DeviantARTist Ricepuppet slicked up this Xbox 360, he says, as a gift for his sister-in-law. Clearly, she has good taste, but that unfortunately means the mod is not for sale. Ricepuppet does custom paint jobs, however, and you can see other examples of his work (and rates) here.

If you’ve read all this and are wondering just what the heck Domo is, this video won’t help much, but it’s cute all the same.

A Better Way to Slime Your Nintendo Ds

Square Enix just had a big day in Japan, with details on the new Dragon Quest X announcement for the Nintendo Wii, and more on the slightly-older (and still unreleased) Dragon Quest IX, which is slated for the DS. But I had eyes for only one thing: the most ridiculous (and awesome) Nintendo DS stand ever created.

The Dragon Quest Slime Speaker Stand is useful–it holds your DS and includes a speaker–but mostly, it’s just a giant slime, designed for the person who really loves them some Dragon Quest. Usefulness only goes so far when you’re talking about dropping ¥4725 (appx. $51 USD) on a cool accessory that makes your portable gaming system somewhat less portable.

The stand will be available from Hori, along with these clear cases designed for the new DSi.

Technabob Mascot Immortalized in Rubik’s Cubes

See that little robot guy in the upper right corner of the Technabob site header? He’s the original mascot of our humble little website, inspired by the classic arcade game Berserk. So I was oh so thrilled when I heard a world-renown urban artist has immortalized the same robo-dude using a bunch of Rubik’s Cubes.

French artist Space Invader is known for leaving his mark all over the globe by placing tile art versions of pixelated gaming invaders in unexpected places.

His upcoming exhibition, entitled London Invasion and Bad Men Part II runs from October 5th through November 9th, 2007 at London’s Lazarides Gallery. Works on display include the Rubik’s robot pictured here among other pop art works.
