When the firm I work for takes on new projects, we engineers are the ones who get stressed out the most. Maybe it’s psychological, but a whole lot of aches just suddenly manifest themselves: headaches, stomach aches, neck aches, back aches – even handaches (if these even exist.)

I usually relieve myself from the stress by going for a massage after work. But why not get a massage while you’re at work? I don’t mean calling your masseuse and booking one of the conference rooms for your break. Why do that when you can just have the uPixie give you one?

This is OSIM’s latest gadget in its product line that includes advanced massage chairs. Now they’re moving into the field of portable massagers with uPixie, which makes use of EMS (Electronic Muscle Stimulation.)

The cool thing about the uPixie is that you can sync the massage up with your computer’s music player, so it delivers a mix of taps, squeezes, and kneads that’s in tune and just right. It’s even compatible with both Windows and Mac systems.

The uPixie retails for $165 (USD), but is current on sale for just $99 at Osim’s site.

DreamBots Ltd. has a very loose definition of massaging. To them, as long as something is touching and roaming over your body, that’s a massage. The company is developing WheeMe, a quirky little massage robot that is essentially a toy car. The WheeMe has “fingerettes” – i.e. toothed wheels – that will “massage” you as the robot randomly roams over your body.

The WheeMe does have one neat trick up its sleeve though – it’s equipped with a tilt sensor that prevents it from falling or losing its grip. Here’s an unconvincing video of the WheeMe in action:

No thanks. I’d rather have a massage robot with actual hands. Check out WheeMe’s website for more info, and some borderline NSFW pics.

OSIM brings you the latest in head massaging technology, the OSIM uCrown 2. It’s gray and it’s ready to massage your pains away.

It’s kind of hard to decide what to make of this product. Was there ever a uCrown1? The greyish plastic reminds me of the color of a NES.

One thing is for sure: anyone visiting Asia will be surprised to get a full back and head massage when visiting a hairdresser to get a haircut. It surprised me the first time I got one a few years ago in Taipei. I have to say that head massages are pretty relaxing.

That’s probably the reason why OSIM is making this product, although I have to wonder if it actually works well. Brookstone says that it’s got an air pressure massage, as well as a vibration massage, coupled with magnetic therapy and gentle heat. Plus, it’s got built-in speakers to play your tunes while relieving stress and relaxing your muscles. Sounds like a full package!

It looks pretty unflattering, so I’d suggest using this when you’re home alone. It will cost you $200 (USD) to look like an idiot in the privacy of your own home. But you’ll feel good doing it.

This is like the code that you need to enter in Cid’s rocket in Final Fantasy VII: the only way that you’ll be able to guess the function of these gadgets correctly in one try is if you already know what they are. Ready? Okay what the hell is this?

No, it’s not an unfinished egg beater. No, it’s not a super spaghetti-scooping fork. Give up? Okay then what the hell is this?

Obviously the two are related, but super spaghetti-scooping fork is still a wrong answer (I should patent that idea though). No, it’s not a dwarf’s rake. Give up? Of course you do. They’re “funny tools to ease your tire.” Yeah, that helps no one. They’re head massagers. If that still doesn’t make sense then I’m sorry but that’s all I got.

The girls in the picture seem pretty happy though. Wanna give it a shot? Both the “circular wire” and the “double layers wire” massagers sell for $10 (USD) each at Brando’s online shop. The code is o s x x, btw.

Nope, this spiky orb-shaped device isn’t some sort of controller for the latest Sonic the Hedgehog game. It’s actually just a universal remote control – in a really weird package, with a really weird secondary purpose.

The cool.con remote control fits neatly into the palm of your hand, and features a bumpy exterior that’s designed to provide a pressure-point massage to your hand as you sit on the couch flipping through your favorite channels. They’ve even provided this handy palm reflexology diagram to help you get the greatest phony health benefit out of your channel-surfing experience.

Who knew you could get rid of a stomach ache while you watched Law and Order:SVU? Or that you could fix that case of chronic bronchitis as you flip over to an old re-run of Matlock? Who knew?

Currently, the cool.con controller is available only in Korea, where it’s available through Funshop for 15,500 KRW (appx. $13 USD). Maybe the same guys will come out with a hand-massaging iPhone case – I might actually buy one of those.

The Xbox Live community has produced some really entertaining little games. It’s also produced a game which makes your 360 controllers into a wireless “sensual massager”. And I think we all know what that means.

Just download A Perfect Massage onto your Xbox 360, and you can turn one or more of your controllers into a vibrating massager. Choose from settings with names like “Tropical”, “Volcano”, “Ocean” and “Swedish”.

Or switch into manual mode, and use your controller to remotely vibrate up to 3 additional controllers, if that’s what you’re into.

So if your muscles (or some other body parts) are feeling tense, you can grab the game on the Xbox Live community marketplace for just 200 Microsoft Points, less than one of those “Magic Fingers” beds they have in no-tell motel rooms.

Thanks to these cushy silicone covers for the Wii Fit Balance Board, your tootsies will get a serious massage while you get your workout.

Just slide this form-fitting silicone cover over your Balance Board, take off your shoes, and enjoy the massaging acupressure dots under your feet. As an added bonus, the bumpy silicone surface should reduce the chance that you’ll slip and fly off of your board as you do your exercise routine. (Although it won’t prevent you from throwing the Wii-mote at the cat.)

You can get your hands erm, feet on one of these over on Amazon for just $9.99 (USD). You feet will thank you.

What would you say to a video game console that’s not controlled by a joystick, a mouse or even a Wii-mote, but instead by the relaxing touch of massage?

The Massage me jacket lets the person giving the massage get their game on while the person receiving the treatment gets to chill out. More intensive massage results in better game play, motivating the masseur to give a good rub down. According to the designer of the device “Otherwise wasted button-pushing energy is transformed into a massage and the addicted game player becomes an inexhaustible masseur.”

Numerous pressure sensors are built into the jacket, converting massage into control signals for a video game console.

Since the jacket really just works in place of a traditional gamepad, it works with many off-the-shelf games. I’d imagine that “button-mashers” like fighting games are best, while first-person-shooters probably wouldn’t work all that well. I wonder if Dance Dance Revolution would work best if you walked on the person’s back?

So what do you suppose this strange contraption is? Could it be some kind of thought control device? Perhaps a new version of the Flowbee hair-vacuum? Maybe it’s an alien brain extraction system? Or is it just the latest fashion trend from the runways in Milan?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this goofy looking helmet is a newfangled head massager. The Head Spa claims to reduce stress and tension by increasing blood circulation and stimulating your scalp through acupressure. It does not claim however, to reduce the level of embarrassment and humiliation you’ll feel wearing it.

According to the product description: “The patented design is lightweight and easy to use while at your office desk, on the morning commute, or while enjoying your evening television program.” I think if you wore one of these on the bus or at work, you’d get hauled off to the loony bin.

If you can manage to get over the stares that’ll come your way, I bet it’s actually pretty relaxing. So head on over to Edmund Scientific and you can strap one on for just $49.95.

After you sit around waiting for SEGA’s new Sonic game to load, nothing is more relaxing than a nice foot massage. Well, at least that’s what the game maker has got in store for visitors to one of their arcades in Shibuya, Japan.

After you sit around waiting for SEGA’s new Sonic game to load, nothing is more relaxing than a nice foot massage. Well, at least that’s what the game maker has got in store for visitors to one of their arcades in Shibuya, Japan.

According to a visitor to the arcade:

…there is a Sega arcade in Shibuya that has this bizarro Sega-made foot massage machine called Ashipuri. You insert your money, stick your feet in, select the part of foot you want massaged and then enjoy five minutes of bliss, making it better value for money than the Dreamcast version of Dynamite Cop. Kind of. Also I think it plays some sort of Sonic music…

What will they think of next?
