Looks like Carlsen has done it again. He has crashed his Porsche into his living room wall. May as well use the thing as an entertainment center now. Well, at least this butt end of a 2005 Porsche 996 will hold a 42″ flat panel TV.

Let’s face it, wives and girlfriends won’t like this a bit, so you either get it and she goes, or this just goes in your man cave, which is really the best place for it.

You choose the color and this entire rear end of a Porsche is hand-built, with 100% original parts. Also available are other cars, like this 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, which holds a 52″ Sony LCD. It’s neat and all, but it would be cool if you could get the front end too, and create a nice Portal effect in your home, but that’s just me.

The Acer Revo RL100 Media center was released about 6 months ago in Asia, and we’re finally going to get it in the US. It’s supposed to be a digital media hub and is for those people who don’t want to have a full-on HTPC in their living room. The Revo RL100 looks pretty darn good, and is no slouch performance-wise.

The 1 inch-tall Revo RL100 comes with a 1.3GHz Athlon processor, a 720GB hard drive, 4GB of RAM, and three USB 2.0 ports. A multi-card reader allows you to read from a plethora of removable media cards. It naturally come with WiFi connectivity and an Ethernet jack if you still operate with wires.

Unlike some of the media centers I’ve seen, this one is quite svelte and minimal. Even if you don’t have much space, the Revo RL100 will be barely noticed. The best feature in my book is the removable keyboard, which doubles as a trackpad, and hides away when it’s not in use.

It’s available now, with the base model (RL100-U1002) selling for $499.99 (USD), but you’ll need to spend $569.99 if you want the version (RL100-UR20P) with the Blu-ray player built in.

LOOKING FOR THE NEW XBOX 360 SLIM? CHECK IT OUT HERE!

While the original Xbox is nary a memory in most of our minds, it’s still a popular console for hacking together media centers and other homebrew apps. But the old black behemoth of a case sure needs an update. So when I saw this custom Xbox build out, I thought to myself, “that’s just what the doctor ordered”.

Modder Coca627 refactored his original Xbox into what he’s coined the “Xbox Slim”, a lean, mean fighting machine, amped up to the max.

To put it in perspective, the original Xbox measured 12.5″(w) x 4″(h) x 10.5″(d), while the Xbox Slim is just 10.2″(w) x 2.3″(h) x 9″(d), a reduction in volume of 60%. And the Slim weighs in at a svelte 4 pounds, less than half the weight of the ponderous 8.5 pound bulk of the original Xbox.

The Xbox Slim is decked out with a brand spaking new DVD/CD-R slim combo drive, and loaded up with a 2.5″ 60GB hard drive for storage, and built-in Wi-Fi networking. Coca even managed to integrate a hidden receiver for his Logitech wireless controller.

Under the hood, the system managed to slim down thanks to improved cooling, courtesy of a pair of heavy duty Iceberg4 Pro Chip Cooling fans.

The system is modded to run a wide variety of nifty applications including the XBMC media center dashboard and emulators for SNES, Sega Megadrive, NeoGeo and more.

Now if only he could get it to run Xbox 360 games

If you’re waiting for the improvements in Windows Vista before you start using a PC in your home entertainment center, you might want to check out this new remote that’s coming from Ricavision in April 2007.

Their Windows Vista SideShow Media Center Remote sure looks purty. It’s got a 2.5-inch color LCD with running Vista’s new SideShow remote user interface. The remote will feature both IR and Class 1 Bluetooth connectivity (capable of working from up to 100-meters away). Like all good universal remotes these days, it features both hard keys – providing quick access to things like volume and track control, as well as soft keys – which can be customized.

SideShow technology also lets you run Vista “gadgets,” such as checking your e-mail, news, weather and RSS feeds. The remote isn’t cheap, at $199, and will require that you have a PC running Windows Vista, but if you’ve just gotta have the coolest toys on the block, you might want one of these. (More details on the remote should be available here after January 8, 2007)

Alienware’s new media center PC, the DHS A has a slick industrial design that would look great in any home entertainment system.

The real killer here is that this is more than simply an HTPC. The DHS A is a complete home entertainment system, featuring 1000 watts of on-board amplification as well as high definition video via HDMI outputs.
