Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3DS System Coming (to Japan Only)

MGS fans will want to check out the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Premium Package, exclusively available for the Japanese market. In this set you get a special 3DS system, a copy of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, and a pair of double-sided MGS art pieces.

The 3Ds system is a special “Snake Camouflage” 3DS that of course looks like black snake skin. Sadly for those of us in the U.S., this is a Japanese exclusive, only available at Konami Style (JP), the company’s online shop, for ¥22,980 (appx. $298 USD.)

If you live in Japan you can pre-order before February 3, but it is so limited that you will only be able to buy one if you enter a raffle. The winners will get an e-mail from Konami by February 10, with the package itself coming on March 8 if you win.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Finally Breaks Out from the Shadows

If you are a fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and have a Nintendo 3DS, Konami has a new game is headed your way. The game is a remake of a PS2 title called Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. The game is set in the 60′s and has Snake out to save a Russian scientist.

The game graphics are tweaked for the 3D console and it has some cool features. Stealth figures strongly into the game so Snake has to slink around and blend in. The player can snap photos of things in their environment for Snake to use as camo.

If the camo photos hide him well, the mission might success, if not Snake might get caught. The game uses both screens of the 3DS with the inventory on the bottom screen. The game will launch March 8 in Europe and should hit the US a few weeks before that date in February. You can pre-order it over on Amazon for $39.96(USD).

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Upgrades Graphics, Limited Edition Adds 248-page Art Book

So what if there are no new games in this Metal Gear Solid HD Collection bundle. Hardcore fans will want to buy it anyway. You’ll get three already-released games boosted to 720p resolution, running at 60fps. Plus, with the Limited Edition, packaging created by Yoji Shinkawa, the series’ lead artist and a 248-page art book titled The Art of Metal Gear Solid.

The collection includes Substance and Subsistence versions of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 in HD, Peace Walker, the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Konami didn’t show off much of the book when they announced this bundle, but if you are a fan, you already know that you have to get this. It has to have something good within it’s 248 pages right? Although how many times can they show Snake sneaking around from different angles before you get bored?

This bundle will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 8. The limited edition will sell for $79.99 (USD), while the standard edition is available for $49.99.

Risk: Metal Gear Solid Limited Edition

I’ve never been big on the Metal Gear Solid games myself, but I know it has tons of fans, so it’s no surprise that this limited-edition Metal Gear Solid Version of Risk is about to hit store shelves.
I’d prefer a mash-up of Risk and Civilization myself, but I have to admit, this game looks pretty cool. It’s limited to just 2,014 units and features custom box top art from Yoji Shinkawa, the Art Director of the Metal Gear games, not to mention an awesome game board.

Other features include over 290 custom game pieces, which include: 5 PMC Armies, 8 Bosses, Outer Haven Battleship, Drebin’s Shop Cards, Territory Cards, PMC Headquarters, Custom Outer Haven Game Board, Custom Earth Game Board and 7 dice.

This is a game that any serious MGS fan will want to own. You can pre-order it from October 3 through November 15 and it ships in November. You don’t even need to be sneaky to get it. Price is unknown at the moment.

Metal Gear Solid Snake: Poppet Edition

Solid Snake might be a little rough and tough, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a softer side – and by that, I mean plush and squishy.

Despite having no idea who Solid Snake was, Crafter averyg ended up having to make a plush Snake for Craftster’s Poppet Mini Swap (yes that’s “poppet”, not “puppet”), in which crafters have to make a requested doll for their swap partner.

Other than the giant head and lack of a nose or mouth, the felt and pipecleaner version of Snake is a dead ringer for Hideo Kojima’s Snake. Although I’m not quite sure about the eyes either. I’m pretty sure that when the government wanted to create the perfect soldier, they weren’t thinking about his eyelashes.

Japanese Flying Surveillance Drone Looks Familiar… !

Japan’s Ministry of Defense recently unveiled their flying surveillance drone, meant to be used for short distances. Surveillance drones are not exactly new in this day and age, but as soon as I saw the quadrocopter, one thing came to mind: Metal Gear Solid 2.

It looks a lot like those annoying Cyphers! Each part – the camera, the tripod and the quadrocopter base – may look different, but together the resemblance made me nerdgasm. I wonder if the Ministry of Defense has a Gun Cypher counterpart as well.

Between the spiky banadana’d hair and the stubbly facial hair, to the cigarette in the corner of My Little Pony’s mouth, this Solid Snake pony is full of win. I bet that Hideo Kojima has a whole farm full of these things.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Uniqlo Shirts: Buy 1 Shirt, Get 1 Soldier

Hideo Kojima’s latest masterpiece is already causing massive nergasms worldwide with its awesomeness. Proclaim your love for the latest member of the Metal Gear Solid series by getting these Peace Walker shirts, made by Japanese clothing company Uniqlo. You’re not just getting a shirt too, as each t-shirt will “also come with a special code that, when entered, will give fans access to both the same t-shirt of purchase as well as a soldier in the game.”

For those not familiar with the game, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a PSP game, continuing where MGS 3 left off, and hopefully finally giving loyal Metal Gear fans an acceptable story that will tie in the original Metal Gear with the rest of the franchise. Like the previous PSP MGS game Tactical Ops, Peace Walker has an army-building mini game – you can “recruit” enemy soldiers and have them do errands for you. And that’s where the Uniqlo tie-in comes in. As mentioned above, each shirt comes with a code that, when entered into the game, gives you a soldier. It also unlocks a virtual version of the shirt for Big Boss.

Unfortunately at this time, the US website of Uniqlo still isn’t showing the T-shirts, but I’m sure it’ll pop up in a couple of days. But! If you don’t want to get the shirt, but you do want to get the free soldier, you can copy the codes from this sneaky Gamespot thread. How’s that for espionage?

Metal Gear Solid Psp Gameplay: Peace Walker, Gadget Lover

If there’s one thing that keeps Snake’s philosophical super spy saga fresh, it’s the gadgets. The upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP is no different. Kotakuite Crimsondramon shared a link to a recently posted gameplay video that shows a bunch of weird yet practical gadgets that will aid Snake (and the other Snakes) in his latest adventure.

Some of the gadgets include a reverse parachute thingy that can be used to rescue or abduct people. It looks like it takes quarry up to a chopper, and for some reason it works even indoors! Enough with the spoilers, enjoy the video!

Crochet connoisseur Rin aka deadcraft aka oddgumi makes wonderful dolls of personalities both fictional and real, as long as they’re awesome. I am confident that a Barney Stinson doll is in the works. Let’s look at some her creations:

Now that’s something you don’t see everyday. Jamie looks kinda creepy though. Adam’s spot on, but I still like Lolcat Adam better. You can get the myth busting dolls for $46 (USD) at Rin’s Etsy shop.

Forget what I said about Jamie. That is creepy. Yet still awesome. Should you want to scare the hell out of anyone, you can buy the Heath Ledger Joker doll for $24, also at Rin’s Etsy shop.

“War has changed. War has become routine. And for some reason I know nothing about what’s going on and always have to be informed by Otacon and everyone else around me.” So says Old Snake, who for some reason seems to be carrying sausages around his neck. Unfortunately, the Snake doll is not currently on Rin’s Etsy shop, but I’m pretty sure she won’t turn you down if you ask her to make you one.

Metal Gear Solid Touch Website: Fun in More Ways Than One

The website for Solid Snake’s latest game – Metal Gear Solid Touch on the iPhone – is already up and running. How did I find out?

The website told me that it was up. That’s right folks! News that you’d never be able to read unless you already know what it is, which makes reading about it pointless! Impressive, Konami.

But since I was there I figured I’d check it out so I’ll have something more meaty to share with iPhone-owning MGS fans. Let’s look at the game’s mechanics as shown on the site:

The image on the left is actually a clip of the shooting and sniping in action; the sniping is pretty smooth, but I do find it weird that you have to pinch-in to zoom out and vice versa. On the other hand, I don’t own an iPhone, so. Give me one.

On the narrative side of things, the website says “Experience Metal Gear Solid 4′s story as you fight through each action packed stage.” So MGS 4 Story + Time Crisis + Tap tap tap = MGS Touch.

The image above is from the website, but it doesn’t really say whether the cut-scenes (if there are any) in the game will be as crisp as the image.

Another detail that the website reveals is that the “first half” of the story will be available via a “special advance release edition.” People who buy the advance edition will then be able to update – and continue from their save data – for free when the final release comes out. Hmmm. Special advance… hmmm.

Tell me if the following sound right: Sisqo: “Without you girl, my life is a special advance release editioooooooooon.” Teacher: ” I’m afraid that your son got a special advance release edition grade in all of his subjects.” Microsoft: “Vista is the special advance release edition of Windows 7.” Hmmmm. Anyway should this game be anywhere near average I’m pretty sure that it’ll sell. I mean who can beat the Snake + Apple combo? Adam and Eve sure couldn’t.
