The only thing I’d have done differently is make the buildings out of LEGO bricks too. The guys at LEGO have revealed that they will be giving away 2 million of these awesome posters to LEGO and Avengers fans on the night of the movie’s premiere on May 4th. They haven’t provided details on what theatres will be offering the posters yet, but you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled for these.

It was recently said that the actual construction of the Death Star would be around $15.6 septillion, which is 1.4 trillion times the total US debt. In an effort to save money, I bet that the Emperor Palpatine put all those stormtroopers to work. In between all their hard labor, hungry and tired stormtroopers need to take a break, right?

In one image, the stormtroopers kind of look like a group of iron workers, taking their lunch during the 1940s at the heights of some New York City skyscraper under construction. It’s just one of a number of amusing Star Wars inspired LEGO minifig images from Je hyung Lee, also known as Storm TK431 on Flickr.

While he doesn’t just take photos of stormtroopers, there’s a recurring theme of the workers slaving away at the beck and call of Vader.

Apparently, a guy from the LEGO site Brickset was at the 2012 UK Toy Fair and while he couldn’t get pics inside the booth to share, he was able to shoot a pic of a photo on the side of the booth showing off the new LOTR minifigs. The photo clearly shows that the entire fellowship of the rings is coming in Minifig form.

Brickset also reports there are a number of LOTR LEGO playsets coming too, and not just the minifigs. The early pics look really cool, and I bet LEGO fans that also love the films and the books will be salivating when they arrive. I’d keep an eye peeled during the New York Toy Fair in early February for more details to emerge, or bookmark LEGO’s LOTR web page, which indicates that something is coming in Summer 2012.

Beattie culled the parts of the characters from the carcasses of weaker minifigs. I wonder where he got Sandor Clegane’s mask from.  I must confess that I know his name only because Beattie points it out, as I have never read any of the books nor seen any episode of the HBO series. So if I spelled his name wrong or if that’s not a mask, blame Beattie! Not me!

What Jonathan invented is a concept for a kid-friendly helmet that looks like something a LEGO minifig would wear in space. Inside the padded helmet are speakers so the wearer can hear the comics be read with and follow along with the story. The helmet even has controls on the side for volume and skipping pages.

On the back of the helmet is a USB port for plugging in a flash drive with the comic audio file on it. The idea is that the print comic would come in the mail, an included code would allow the user to download the audio, and then plugging the flash drive with the audio in would start the storytelling.

There have been countless duplicates and fakes over the years, but these have the USB connector hidden inside the legs. Whenever it’s not in use, it looks like a regular LEGO minifig. When you plug it into your computer, it looks like a small man legless man trying to crawl out of the USB port.

It costs $24.99 (USD) over at the official LEGO store. I guess that’s the price you pay for official LEGO products. At least you can find them a for a couple of dollars less on eBay.

The camera is equipped with a macro lens, a 1.5″ LCD screen, an SD card slot and a cute LEGO tripod. To help kids shoot stop animation videos, a program called LEGO Stop Animation Studio Software is bundled with the camera.

You can order the LEGO video camera at ThinkGeek for $80 (USD). It also comes with two minifigs, so you’ll have something to shoot right from the get go.

At 7.5-inches tall, these minifigs won’t fit in your pocket, but they’re still somewhat portable because the LEDs are powered by three AAA batteries.

Right now the NeatoShop has the Fireman, Policeman and Construction Worker minifig flashlight in stock; each of them sells for $22 (USD). I’m waiting for the Cowboy, the Native American and the Biker minifigs. Maybe the Fireman can stand in for the G.I.?

The guys over at AdvancedUSB can make customized USB people in a wide variety of colors, facial expressions, storage sizes, and even with custom graphics on their tiny USB clothing. Me, I want a mini-me with a Technabob mascot on it. Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure you can’t order single drives, but if you want to build an entire USB army of yourself, you certainly could.

Each 8-inch tall maxi/minifig sits on your bedside table, and includes an oversize LCD alarm clock in its squared-off chest. I can’t decide if I’d want the Stormtrooper or Anakin to wake me up every morning. I love the hand detail on Anakin/Darth. Very clever. The only thing it’s missing is a LEGO lightsaber. I guess you could try and stick one of these in his hand.

No word on when or where these will turn up, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find them in a galaxy far, far away sometime later this year.

Larry Lars may have sucked all the cuddle out of this little guy, but there was no skimping on detail. From the minifig hands-as-ears to the spear clutched in his little square Ewok hand, this is a pretty faithful rendition. It’s just less round.

You can check out quite a few CubeDude figures on Larry Lars’ Flickr stream, including a slave Leia figure that managed to retain a few of Leia’s, uh… rounder, more cuddly bits. I’m not sure if “huggable” is really the best description, but she certainly seems softer than the poor ol’ Ewok.

Alexander adds that LEGO tries to match the appearance of the employee with the minifig. But you’re not going to get a minifig if you’re a lowly LEGO worker; the business minifigs are only for executive officers and PR people. If you’re an avid LEGO/minifig collector, then I suggest you befriend – or hunt down – all the LEGO suits so you can have a real unique collection. Then you can stage epic LEGO battles, like Darth Vader versus LEGO’s VP for Marketing.

While the Marines need no introduction to anyone who’s played SC, the rest of the units that Pepa Quin copied are new to the game, which makes his creations even more awesome. Here’s his take on the Hellion, a Terran ground vehicle that attacks using a flamethrower:

I guess the Firebat is no more. Here’s yet another Terran unit, the Banshee, a powerful air-to-ground attack aircraft:

How. Awesome. Is. That. Seriously. Look at the in-game unit and you’ll realize how accurate this is. But my favorite has to be Pepa Quin’s version of the Immortal, another new unit, this time from the sleek and spiritual Protoss. Immortals are great against heavy ground vehicles like the Crucio Siege Tank, but they’re easy pickings for small & fast-moving units like Zerglings or the new Terran Reapers.

Although the in-game Immortal packs bigger guns than the ones we see here, the… Protoss-ness…Protossity… the essence of the Protoss is here. One look at this thing and I immediately thought: “Protoss!” Then, “Starcraft!” Then “Pants are wet now.”

To Blizzard: Lego Starcraft. Think about it. To Pepa Quin: Please make a C-C-C-Carrier arrive. That or a Thor. And have your hands insured. To everyone else: check out Quin’s Flickr page for more delicious pics.

Maybe it’s the giant red nose, or the lack of soft, welcoming lines, but this particular reindeer looks like he hauls Futurama‘s terrifying Robot Santa around. That’s no fun at all.

But maybe it’s just that they’re both Christmas-y robots. Regardless of my personal fear of holiday robots, Lego master Sir Nadroj–who has many other custom Lego minifigs on display at his Flickr site–put together a fantastic metallic(ish) critter for the holidays, and even though Christmas has passed, we’ve got enough leftover spirit lying around to appreciate the effort.
