One of the coolest accessories I have seen for the iPad is the Smart Cover. You have probably seen this cover with its magnets that keep the iPad 2 propped up in several modes for more comfortable use. The magnets inside the case will turn the screen on and off and they can even stick the iPad 2 to your fridge if you are brave. If you like how Apple’s Smart Cover works, but you really want something with more style Miniot has it’s own version of the design.

The Miniot Cover for iPad 2 has magnets inside just like the real thing and but is made out of little sections of real wood. The maker says that all the edges are smooth and flush with the iPad. When you open or close the lid the screen will turn on and off.

The wood doesn’t flex in large segments like the official Smart Cover so you end up with more of a roll to prop your iPad 2 with than a triangle. You can see what I mean in the video demo:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The case will start shipping today at 50 euro (appx. $70 USD), and it looks damn good.

If you’ve got a “classic” glass and metal iPhone like me, you probably don’t NEED a case thanks to its durable metal back. But if you’ve got a shiny new plastic-backed iPhone 3G, you might want some additional protection for your gadget. Why not dress it up with wood?

Miniot’s form-fitting iWood cases are made from natural hardwoods including oak, cherry, mahogany, walnut and padouk (what the heck is padouk, anyway)?

Priced at €80 ($125 USD) a pop, they’re nearly as expensive as the iPhone 3G itself. But isn’t beauty priceless?

Miniot has already been shipping iPhone and iPod Touch cases for a while now, and should be rolling out the iPhone 3G version of the case by the end of July.
