While I can understand the convenience of sat navs, using an existing device like an iPhone or iPad to navigate also makes a lot of sense. The only trouble that I see is that you’ll might end up using your gadget for texting or tweeting, and your car will end up in a ditch. For those of you who don’t foresee this as a problem, then the Satechi SCH-121 Cup Holder Mount is just for you.

The device will work for all sorts of smartphones and 7 to 10-inch tablets. The cradle can rotate 360 degrees, which will allow you to use your gadgets in portrait or landscape mode. Its hinges also move 180 degrees to give you lots of additional flexibility.

On the plus side, it will get your smartphone out of your hands, which is a good thing when you’re driving. On the other hand, it means you might start using your Kindle, Nook, iPad, Playbook or Galaxy Tab to play games or watch movies while driving, which would probably be even more distracting than making a phone call or texting.

If you can resist using this thing for evil, or can insist that its for passenger use only, the Satechi SCH-121 sells for $29.99(USD) over at their website.

Most of us have our game consoles right next to our TVs, near the rest of our gear because we don’t have many other options. If you want the freedom to put it anywhere you like, including the car, MountMe has launched a new console mount that allows you to do just that.

It doesn’t look like much, but all you need to do is attach the X-Me mounting case where you want your Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii and then strap your console in to keep it secure.

Now you can put it anywhere, since this can also be used in the home, assuming you have wires long enough. The MountMe X-Me gaming console car mount will cost you $70 (USD) from MountMe and comes in black or white. It’s great for those who have limited space and want to get creative about where they play games.

Yep, I know all about how popular the iPhone has become to snap everyday photos. Now you can take it to the next level by getting this iPhone 4 lens mount, which will allow you to mount your favorite Canon or Nikon DSLR lenses onto your precious iPhone.

Before you jump for joy, remember that the iPhone’s 5-megapixel sensor is pretty paltry, so don’t expect to take DSLR-quality photos with it. However, it might come in handy if you want to have a bit of fun. Honestly though, if you’re carrying along these big lenses, might as well just carry along your DSLR. The only reason would be to give the iPhone some more visual control, and for its instant sharing options.

You know, the funny thing about this image is that Steve Jobs really was the father of both of these items – there’s Luxo, Jr., the little articulating Anglepoise lamp from Pixar’s breakthrough short film, and an iPad, from, well, you know where. Ok, Jobs didn’t found Pixar, but all the really good stuff happened after he bought it back in 1986.

This love-child of Luxo and iPad is one of the more unique – and potentially useful – tablet contraptions I’ve seen so far. The stand conveniently mounts to any desktop and provides you with a handy articulating arm for using your tablet with one hand.

I could totally see this coming in handy at work when I want to check something on my iPad while sitting at my desk. Of course, thanks to a flexible mounting bracket, it doesn’t just work with iPads. It’ll actually work with any tablet or e-book reader from 140mm (5.5″) to 255mm (10″) tall, just as long as it’s at least 145mm (5.7″) wide, which should mean the iPad and iPad 2 will fit nicely in either portrait or landscape modes.

The tablet sits in an adjustable cradle that can be tilted in just about any direction or angle you want, then locked in place to prevent movement when in use. The articulated arm measures appx. 95cm (37.4″) long when fully outstretched, but that includes the length of the desk clamp, and it can be compressed down to as little as 53cm (20.9″) when fully retracted.

So this all sounds pretty spiffy, right? So here’s the bad news. The only place I can find this device is in Korea, where it currently sells for the totally reasonable price of 54,000 KRW (appx. $50 USD). If you want to try and deal with getting one imported, you can head over to the Early Adopter Shop [KR] and give it a whirl. If you speak Korean, you might just be able to make it happen. Hopefully someone here in the States will find the manufacturer of these and import a batch. You can find something similar over at ergo 101, but you’ll end up paying about $300 for theirs.

Despite having a rather unfortunate name, the Glif is actually a really good product idea. It’s a tiny mount which lets you put your iPhone 4 on a tripod with ease.

Designed by Thomas Gerhardt and Dan Provost, this pint-sized piece of rubberized plastic mounts onto any tripod or camera mount with a standard 1/4″-20 thread. And for those times when you’re not in photo-taking mode, the compact contraption turns into a nifty stand so you can view images or videos on your iPhone. When not in use, it converts into an antenna guard, so you can keep it on your iPhone at all times.

Proving that the Internet truly is revolutionizing product development, the $20 device started out as a Kickstarter project, with its makers sights set on generating $10,000 to get their project funded. Amazingly, they’ve raised over $137,000 to date, and will start shipping the Glif in about 2 or 3 weeks. You can pre-order one here.

I really like my iPad and while I do take it with me at times for playing games or reading, mostly I use it around the house for watching videos and such. There are apps available that will let you use the iPad as a second screen for your Mac or PC, but for that to be effective you need some sort of a stand.

If you have a desk that has a hutch on the back, Griffin has unveiled a new iPad cabinet mount that might be perfect for you. It will mount under, beside or on any cabinet anywhere as long as that cabinet is 14-inches deep or more. It’s also great hanging under a kitchen cabinet if you’ve got the counter clearance.

The mount has an articulating arm that moves through 90-degrees forward and backward allowing it to fold flat under the cabinet. The arm also rotates in a compete circle allowing it to be viewed comfortably from any angle. The iPad is held securely with specially designed grips to keep it safe.

Griffin’s Cabinet Mount for iPad and is available right now and sells for $69.99 (USD).

You’ve probably met people who have two cell phones, an iPad, a GPS and other ‘important’ gadgets that they keep glancing at while you’re talking to them. Now you can give them the prefect gift so that they can keep watching all of their gadgets at the same time, thanks to the iArm.

Seriously, this is just a prank empty box that you can get from Prank Pack. Still, it makes you wonder. I’m sure that I could see some people using this, especially the multi-device option. Put an iPhone, a Crackberry, heck, even that old cell phone that you no longer use on your arm.

The fake box mentions that the iArm *only* weighs 4.5 lbs and is fully adjustable. The best part of this is when they should that you can mount a plate on your arm. Now that’s really funny. Naturally, the iArm will hold up your iPad and eReader as well (if it actually existed.)

Mounting solutions that hang the iPad for a wall or stand it up on a tabletop are getting to be some of the more common accessories for the tablet. They are popular because people want to be able to view content and read while they are standing or sitting without having to hold the iPad in their hands. A new mount system from a company called Vogel has surfaced that will let you put the iPad in a lot of locations you probably never thought of.

The kit starts with a Vogel WallMount and BaseCover system for iPad that includes a cover to protect the back of the iPad and hold the tablet to the various mounts for different services. The cover has a special connector that holds the tablet to the WallMount, TabletMount, or CarMount.

The WallMount is a small button that can be screwed into most walls and rotates 360-degrees. The CarMount is a dock that secures between the posts of the headrests in most modern vehicles. The TableMount lets you sit the iPad on the table or a shelf and keep it upright. The devices will ship in the US in early 2011 and will hit Europe in October with the starter kit going for 79.99 euro (appx. $101 USD) and the CarMount and TableMount pricing are unknown at this time.

Yep, I’ve got an iPhone 3GS, but I have to say that as much as I love that it can shoot video, I still have a tough time keeping the picture steady while shooting. There’s nothing quite like a little shakycam action to make you lose your lunch when you play back your home movies on the big screen. So I was stoked when I saw this awesome looking iPhone 3GS handgrip was coming out – until I saw the price tag, that is.

The Zgrip iPhone PRO from Zacuto is a serious stabilizing mount for your 3GS, letting you shoot professional-quality video instead of accidentally getting your fingertips in the shot – or worse yet, dropping your JesusPhone on the ground while you’re trying to get the perfect shot.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Simply snap your iPhone 3GS into the form-fitting grips, and start shooting. The mount can be adjusted to just about any angle you want, and provides a rock-solid mount for capturing your first Spielberg moment.

So what’s not to like? The big problem is that the ZGrip PRO sells for a whopping $295 (USD), making it just $4 bucks less than a 32GB iPhone 3GS. Yeouch. I suppose if you want to get serious about shooting video on your 3GS, it’s worth a look. But for most of us, the price tag is a non-starter. On the plus side, Zacuto is working on a simpler consumer model that loses some of the adjustability, but should cut the price significantly. Stay tuned.

I guess I’ll have to stick with the shakycam for now.

No, it doesn’t have three legs, so it’s not really a tripod, but it serves the same basic purpose. This ingenious little device screws into the tripod thread on the bottom of your camera, providing it with a stable platform for you to take impromptu photos from.

The Manfrotto 797 Modo Pocket camera mount is so tiny, that when folded up it fits easily on your keychain. The mini stand has a hinged design that lets you adjust the angle of your camera, as well as the ability to deal with angled surfaces. It’s got four tiny rubber feet to help stabilize your camera too.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found a place you can order these outside of France, but you might be able to get one shipped to you by Digit-Photo if you happen to Parlez-Vous Français. You also might want to check with B&H Photo, since they carry the Manfrotto line.

What do you get when you combine a skateboard wheel, a length of PVC pipe, a driveway marker, a handful of screws, a bolt, washers and nuts, and some Gorilla Tape? Not much, until you throw an awesome new wearable camcorder in the mix. Then, you have one crazy POV video camera system.

That’s exactly what happened when Olympic Snowboarder Graham Watanabe hooked up with the guys who came up with the rugged new VholdR outdoor camera from Twenty20.

Using a design that would make MacGyver proud, the improvised “Granthony Cam” (named for Graham and Twenty20′s Anthony Godoy) screws on top of Watanabe’s helmet as he snowboards downhill, capturing a wild, 360-degree video effect that not only gives you a great sense of motion, but is also some of the wildest camera work this side of a Raising Arizona. The 2 minute video clip is definitely worth a watch, so be sure to check it out.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The VholdR camera at the heart of the rig comes encased in a rugged anodized aluminum shell, and is splash proof, dust proof and dirt proof. Designed to mount just about anywhere, the camera is perfect for sports-nuts or anyone else who wants to capture action video in challenging locations. The whole lens and image sensor can even rotate up to 192-degrees together, and a pair of lasers automatically guide the camera to frame the image properly. The company even offers specially-designed mounts for helmets, bikes, goggles and roll bars… but I still prefer the ingenuity of the Granthony Cam.

At $350, it’s not the cheapest digital video camera out there, but you also wouldn’t want to strap your mom’s HandyCam to your head and go jump out of an airplane with it on.
