I never got used to Apple’s Magic Mouse, but it seems that many people are keen on the idea of combining the trackpad with a mouse. Microsoft followed Apple’s lead and released their own touch-sensitive mouse, and now Logitech has thrown its hat into the ring as well with the Touch Mouse M600.

Unlike the Apple and Microsoft mice, the M600 does not support multi-touch gestures. Think of it as a basic trackpad in a mouse’s body – you can point, click, scroll and swipe anywhere on its surface. Nothing more, nothing less. The M600 does make up for its simplicity with a practical feature. The M600 can run on either one or two AA batteries. Put one battery in and you’ll be able to mouse around for three months; add a spare one and you’ll get twice the amount. You can think of it as either having the ability to run at half the power or store extra power. Both sound good in my book of good sounding thoughts. One other thing to keep in mind is that Logitech currently lists the M600 as Windows 7 only, so Mac users will need to stick with the Magic Mouse for now.

Thermaltake and BMW’s DesignWorksUSA came up with the Level 10 computer case a while back. Now, they teamed up again for the eye-popping Level 10 M Mouse. The mouse was designed with ergonomics in mind, and looks like it’s aimed squarely at the gaming community.

It has a hollowed-out body that can be easily adjusted for your specific grip. A top-side screw changes the height and angle. There’s also a perforated palm rest which is supposed to create passive air flow to cool down your hands.

There’s no doubt that this mouse looks gorgeous, but even with the knowledge that wired mice are more precise for gaming, it’s still hard to imagine using this mouse everyday when I’ve gotten so used to wireless peripherals.

There’s no word on pricing but it should be available later this spring.

It might not look like a normal computer mouse, nor does it look like a cube, but Logitech’s just-revealed Cube is a pocket-sized controller which works as both a pointing device for your computer and a presentation device in one.

When placed on your desk, the wireless Cube controller lets you control your cursor much like you would your smartphone’s touchscreen. They don’t describe it as a multitouch trackpad, though it sounds sort of like one to me. When you get up to give a presentation, just lift the Cube up off of your desktop, and it switches into presentation mode.

In this mode, it appears to use a motion sensor to determine which direction you want to navigate in your presentation. Clicking the top of the Cube advances slides, while flipping the mouse over goes back a slide. Keep in mind that it doesn’t function as pointer once you lift it from the desk like some of they gyroscopic mice out there, it only navigates between slides.

The Cube is compatible with both PCs and Macs too, and connects using their tiny, proprietary USB Unifying Receiver technology. The Logitech Cube will be available in both black and white, and is expected to be released sometime this month, and will retail for $69.99 (USD).

One that is Assassins Creed Revelations themed. It’s probably one of the coolest looking mice I’ve ever seen, despite the fact that it resembles some kind of trendy sneaker. Hell, it looks like it is fully dressed like a character in the game.

This Chameleon X-1 Mouse will be available in two different colors, ‘Altair white’ and ‘Ezio grey’. You see what they did there? Very clever. It features antique decorated leather on the mouse buttons and the same specs as the original mouse, including a hidden gamepad on the bottom, 16 buttons and a 1600 dpi optical sensor.

Assassins Creed fans will be happy to know that this mouse will be officially launched at CES 2012 later this month.

If there’s one thing I don’t miss about the early days of GUI-based computing, it’s those uncomfortable mice with the squared-off edges, which clearly weren’t designed for the human hand. About the only thing worse in my opinion was those stupid puck mice that came with the original iMac. Thank God those are no longer being made. On the other hand, someone has decided it would be a good idea to bring back the old boxy mouse.

I like to think about this retro-style mouse as the Volvo of mice. Sturdy, utilitarian. Not necessarily sporty or comfortable. At least they updated this model by giving it a USB connection instead of ADB or PS/2, an optical sensor instead of one of those balls that you constantly had to clean to get the cat hair out of your mouse. They’ve also given this retro mouse Three Buttons and a Scroll Wheel, which I believe was a 1980s movie with Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and that guy from Police Academy, and directed by Spock. (Seriously, I’m not making that part up.)

If you’re just desperate to relive the early days of mousing, then head on over to ThinkGeek, where you can get the Retro USB mouse for $19.99(USD).

That said, I don’t think Shih-Chan Chiu designed the Yo-Yo Mouse particularly for people like me. So what’s the Yo-Yo Mouse? Well, basically it’s a wireless mouse that’s also a (surprise, surprise) yo-yo. It looks simple enough, although I’m not sure how comfortable using a round mouse would be.

So when you’re extremely stressed out at work or need to take a break because it feels like your legs are going to stop working because you’ve been sitting at your desk for so long, then take the Yo-Yo Mouse for a quick spin.

Also, you’re going to have to regularly do the yo-yo bit because the mouse actually runs on yo-yo power. That’s right: to charge up the yo-yo mouse, you’ll actually have to do a bit of yo-yoing.

Futuristic films that involve computers and stuff always include a scene where the characters are using extremely high-tech computers with screens and keyboards made of glass.

But what would you think if I told you that you could possibly be using a multitouch, tempered glass keyboard and mouse by April of next year? Well, you really would, if you made a pledge of $350 or more (to get both), $250 or more (to get the keyboard), or $150 or more (to get the mouse) on this Kickstarter project by Jason Giddings.

These next-generation computer mice and keyboards are made from special, curved tempered glass and have cameras at the base to detect your fingers’ movements using infrared light. Both devices are still unnamed, but Jason is giving anyone who pledges $10 and $25 a chance to name his babies (these babies, and not his real ones, if ever he has any.)

Jason’s goal was to raise $50,000 and it looks like the project is well on its way, as the current pledges already amount to over $48k. Way to go!

While touchscreens and trackpads might be what people yearn for, the reality is that most of us still have to use computer mice in some fashion. This is why Nendo designed this mouse that looks like a “D”-cell battery. Need I say more?

The Elecom Kandenchi mouse’s unusual design is a based on the fact that all wireless mice need to be recharged. The nub on the positive end has been turned into the click button, and there’s even a scroll wheel on the side. The interesting thing is that this form factor reduces the overall size of the mouse, meaning that you can use it in more confined places. Ergonomics, on the other hand, have been thrown out the window.

After they were done with the battery mouse, they made a stand that looks like a pair of glasses. Why not? The Megane stand comes in both tablet and smartphone sizes, and when it’s not in use, it folds up like glasses do.

Unlike the eyeglasses on your face, these ones have suction cups in place of lenses, to hold your gadgets firmly in place.

There’s no word yet on pricing or availability of these quirky items, but my guess is that they won’t be that expensive – though they may be difficult to find outside of Japan.

Are you geek enough to realize that there is actually an annual Micromouse Robot Competition? It’s where a bunch of small robots face off against each other not in the ring, but in a labyrinth. The goal is to solve the maze as quickly as possible.

That means that they need to be fast and turn quickly. And I mean fast. Check out the videos to see these little guys just zip around these mazes like The Flash after a visit to Starbucks. The current king of the competition is Ng Bent Kiat, with his mouse robot called the Min7.

The Min7 is the first 4-wheeled robot Ng has created, which I suppose says a lot about his skill. It weighs 90 grams and measures just 10 x 7.5 x 2.5cm, with a straight line speed of 3.5m/s. It’s brain is a 20MHz Hitachi 2633R processor. Initially, the robot first enters the maze and do some recon, slowly mapping it out.

Then comes the timed run where they navigate the maze as quickly as possible:

Boy, these things sure can move!

Logitech has just announced the Logitech Laser Mouse G9X and Logitech Gaming Keyboard G105 to compliment the game.

Oh, Brando. How we love your never-ending warehouse full of weird, wacky and often unnecessary Chinese gadgets. So why wouldn’t we be expecting this giant-sized USB mouse would eventually make its way to your shelves? It was inevitable.

This oversize USB mouse is so big, that it requires the entire expanse of your grip to move it around. I’m not sure where I’d find the room on my desktop to cram this thing in.

If you have any doubt about just how large this thing is, just think about the specs. At 175mm long (~6.88″), 105mm (~4.13″) wide and 55mm (~2.16″) tall, this thing could eat your current mouse for breakfast, then swallow 3 or 4 more mice for dessert.

If having a giant-sized USB mouse sitting on your desktop wasn’t distracting enough, this whopper of a mouse also includes a built-in LED light show. It’s like a disco on your desk.

[youtubw width="600" height="474"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxjgqLf_2UU[/youtube]

Why not string 24 of these into a giant USB hub and actually open your own discotheque? You can get the giant USB mouse over at Brando now for $20 (USD). While you’re over there, be sure to tell them how much we love them, and to never stop with the wacky.

At first glance at the picture below, I was convinced I was looking at an old Macintosh mouse – you know, the old type with the squared-off edges made out in lovely 1980s computer beige? In fact, what you’re looking at is a bar of soap.

Bearing a striking resemblance to the ADB mouse that came with my old Macintosh IIci, this bar of soap will sure brings back memories, while also getting you squeaky clean. It’s made by Kylee Lane of SoapLane, from Earth-friendly ingredients, and with no animal by-products or testing.

Best part about this Macintosh mouse soap? It actually smells like McIntosh apples. The fruit, not the computer, that is. Mac-heads can grab a bar over on Etsy for just $7.50 (USD). 3.5″ floppies not included.

Most jobs nowadays require at least an hour or so at the computer, whether it’s to type a report or send out an email to a colleague in another office. And when you’re using the computer, you’re also more or less using a mouse along with it (unless you just use laptops and are contented with moving the cursor around with just the touchpad.)

But how would you like it if your computer mouse could do more than just let you click or drag and drop objects on your screen? Researchers from the Tokyo Metropolitan University have come up with a device that’s just about the size of a computer mouse that can tell you just how stressed you are. In fact, they’ve actually built a prototype version inside of a mouse.

It does so by bouncing off infrared light off of your fingers and measuring the bloodflow in your digits. It then analyzes the variations in your circulation. Bloodflow itself isn’t what determines if you’re stressed or not, but a correlation actually exists between the stability of your cardiac rhythm and the amount of certain stress-related hormones in your body.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Who knows, we just might see this technology incorporated into the computer mice of tomorrow. Although personally, I wouldn’t want to know how stressed I am, as it would just probably stress me out even more if I found out.

These new Corsair Vengeance keyboards and mice are made specifically for gaming. They each have a sturdy aluminum chassis, and have high quality Cherry MX Red key switches.

The K60 has specially contoured and textured WASD and 1-6 keycaps, and they’re bright red so you don’t miss them. The keys can be easily replaced when they falter after long gaming sessions, and are easy to clean because of the way they are raised. There’s also an ergonomic wrist rest that’s nice to have.

Both keyboards come with anti-ghosting tech, meaning that if you mash a few keys at once, you won’t get glitchy responsiveness. Response time is 1ms and it’s supposed to be very responsive to double- and triple-taps. There’s another keyboard that Corsair released, the K90, but it looks a bit too big to me. The added size comes from 18 programmable keys on the left, which are made for MMOs. But it does comes with cool LED backlighting, which is always nice.

I prefer how minimal the K60 looks. Corsair also released matching mice. Both offer 5700 DPI precision, an aluminum body, and a heavy-duty scroll wheel. The K60 mouse even has a special “sniper button,” while the M90 mouse comes with 15 programmable buttons! Personally, I’d match a K60 keyboard with a M90 mouse.

You can get the K60 Keyboard for $109.99 (USD), and its mouse is $69.99. The K90 keyboard sells for $129.99, while the matching mouse goes for $79.99.

The computer mouse has received quite a lot of attention in the past few months. From mice with digital photo frames to ones with a digital weighing scale, I thought I’ve seen my fair share of multi-purpose mice, at least for this year.

Turns out I was quite wrong, because LG’s LSM-100 Smart Scan Mouse is to be released later this year.

It’s pretty obvious from the name itself that this mouse has a bit more to it than it lets on. Aside from being a mouse, it’s also a handheld scanner. Yes, you read that right: this sleek and compact mouse can replace that bulky flatbed scanner on your desk and perform scans by simply moving it back and forth across the page or picture that you want to scan. (That has got to be the most number of times I’ve ever used the word “scan” in one sentence.)

Anyway, the LSM-100 has the capacity to scan pages that are up to A3 in size, which beats other portable scanners that are limited to smaller-sized documents in terms of what they can and can’t scan. In addition to the regular left and right click buttons that you find on most computer mice, this one also has a Smart Scan button that the user presses down when doing some scans.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The scanned images can be saved in PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PDF, XLS or DOC format. Aside from that, the LSM-100 is also equipped with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology that can detect text in scanned documents and convert them into editable text. The Smart Scan, which will retail for around $150, was made available in Europe at the end of August and will be launched everywhere else shortly after.

Computer mice come in a lot of forms nowadays. Gone are the days of the huge and bulky mouse with the humongous scroll balls that I’ve had the pleasure of using over a decade ago. Now there are wireless mice, Oppopets mice that come with adorable animal-themed dongles, and ring mice.

And then there’s Elecom’s Kandenchi Battery Mouse (JP). It’s tiny and compact and comes in the shape of a battery, albeit with a simpler look and no positive or negative nodes in sight. It’s also larger than your regular D cell, but not large enough to really resemble a joystick.

The Battery Mouse comes with two buttons (the one at the top is for right-clicking, while the top one at the side is for left clicks) while the bottom button is a scroll wheel. It’s definitely a computer mouse that’s handy and extremely portable, but I reckon people with large hands might have some difficulty using it.

If you’re interested, the Kandenchi Battery Mouse will be available in October and will retail at around $65 (USD).

First off, no that isn’t some sort of deformed penis with the world’s tiniest testicles in the photo below. Get your mind out of the gutter. It’s a bald mouse that a team of researchers from Institute of Industrial Science at the University of Tokyo are using as a test rodent for a cool new sensor that may someday help make monitoring blood sugar less painful for diabetics.

The glowing blue stick you see in the tweezers is a new sensor that the team has been working on that glows to show the mouse’s blood sugar. The sensor uses glucose-responsive fluorescent hydrogels inside and is 1mm in diameter. It is designed to be easily injected under the skin and can be removed with tweezers like a splinter.

The sensor has shown to be accurate and durable enough to stay inside the body for up to 140 days in mice. The team is working on calibrating and testing the sensor further to improve the accuracy and duration of the sensor. Eventually the hope is that the sensor can be used in humans to allow blood sugar monitoring without having to prick the finger to draw blood for conventional testing.

Oh Brando. I just knew you couldn’t stay practical and logical for long. One minute I’m writing about a perfectly sensible product with your name on it, the next you’re sending e-mails about… about this:

Yep. That’s a 1.5″ LCD screen. It displays images stored in the mouse’s built-in 8MB memory. It supports bmp and jpg files, and I think the mouse also comes with a cropping and managing tool for the pictures, although no mention is made of such a program in the product page.

You can trigger the display and browse the files manually, but you can also set the mouse to automatically play a slideshow, I guess so that your palm won’t be bored while you’re too busy looking at, I don’t know, normal sized pictures on your computer.

Brando is selling the USB Optical Mouse with Digital Photo Frame for $32 (USD). The more I look at this product, the less sense it makes. At least the weighing scale/mouse combo adds a function that you can’t get from a computer.

If you ask me, the mouse is definitely something I can’t live without. Sure, the touchpad on my laptop is enough for my needs sometimes, but I need my USB mouse to be able to drag and drop things with ease. Or do most of the stuff I do on my laptop, actually, without banging my head in frustration in between because the cursor somehow always ends up in places where it’s not supposed to be.

That said, you might think this USB mouse is just like any other mouse, except that it’s not. Once you lift the cover off this thing, then you’ll find a teeny tiny little surprise in the form of a miniature digital scale.

I normally love things that are multi-purpose, but I’m not really sure what to make of the mouse you see here. It’s totally something that I have never chanced upon before today, which makes it sort of strange yet cool at the same time. At least for me, anyways.

But if, for some reason, you’re involved in some line of work where you’ll randomly need to weigh things that are less than 500 grams, then this is one quirky mouse you might want to check out. The mouse is available online for $22(USD) over at Brando.

While OS X Lion updates all of the multi-touch gestures available for Mac computers, but (at least for now) people who have PCs still need buttons on their mice. This mouse, called the X Mark I Lite, was recently released by Canon and comes with an integrated 10-digit calculator or numeric keypad (whichever you prefer)!

While this might seem an odd peripheral for some people, especially those that have both a plain old calculator and a mouse on their desks, the mouse can double as a numeric keypad. Most of today’s new, minimal keyboards eschew the numeric keypad, so this is really handy for bringing that back.

This mouse has Bluetooth connectivity and is made out of recycled materials from Canon copiers.

If you don’t like the layout of these buttons, you could always just ask Google or Wolfram Alpha to do your calculations for you (which is what I do).
