Apparently, someone mistakenly ran a command on the company server to delete all files in a directory and subdirectory. The catch was the command was executed in the main root directory for Toy Story 2. Pixar then found out its backups were incomplete leaving it with months and many, many hours worth of lost content. Luckily, a worker who worked from home had more recent copy of the film stored locally on her computer. The result was a loss of some data but nothing as catastrophic as originally thought.

The Pixar team is able to look back at the story with a sense of humor in the short animated clip below:

Ironically, once the film was recovered and nearly complete, Pixar decided they didn’t like how it turned out, and eventually reshot much of the film with just months before its theatrical release.

If you don’t plan on ever playing the games, just watch these and you will have the same experience, without buying the game or ever holding the controller.

Hopefully, Naughty Dog and Sony will allow these clips to remain live, but you should watch them soon, just in case their lawyers decide to pull them down.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I heard Colin Farrell would be taking over the role of Douglas Quaid in the upcoming Total Recall remake. I’m not a big fan of Farrell, I can’t think of a single film he’s been in that I actually liked. The full trailer hit the web over the weekend and honestly, the movie looks pretty good so far:

Judging by the trailer, Len Wiseman’s version has a lot in common with the original 80s classic – especially the Rekall machine and the “If I’m not me then who the hell am I?” line. However, it also differs a great deal. The new movie is said to follow more closely to the Philip K. Dick short story the original was based on called We Can Remember It for You Wholesale than the Schwarzenegger film. Guess we’ll all find out on August 3, 2012 when the remake hits theaters.

It’s a perfect LEGO reimagining of the original movie poster as you can see below:

The only thing I’d have done differently is make the buildings out of LEGO bricks too. The guys at LEGO have revealed that they will be giving away 2 million of these awesome posters to LEGO and Avengers fans on the night of the movie’s premiere on May 4th. They haven’t provided details on what theatres will be offering the posters yet, but you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes peeled for these.

These indestructible building blocks were what the aliens’ spaceship was actually built from. In the movie, they would also vibrate from time-to-time, as a result of some sort of electromagnetic attraction to its brethren.

For the replica version, prop shop Quantum Mechanix used the actual 3D digital models the movie studio used to make them for the film, then cast a 1:1 scale version (appx. 2″×”2″×2″) from polystone and covered it with a smooth pearlescent coating. It’s too bad the replicas aren’t loaded with neodymium magnets too. Perhaps someone will mod theirs to so they can actually stick to each other.

Still, I think a couple of these sitting on your desk or coffee table would be a fun conversation piece – at least until the aliens return to reclaim what is rightfully theirs. Director Adam Cornelius’ Ecstasy of Order: The Tetris Masters is a documentary about the world’s best Tetris players, equally dedicated to their game in the way that Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe were in Kong. The film explores the intense and obsessive relationship between players and the classic brick-stacking puzzler, and the return of Tetris master Thor Aackerlund, who trounced the game back at the 1990 Nintendo World Championship. Here’s a trailer for the film – it’s worth a watch.

The film has been making the rounds at various fests, and looks pretty great from the trailer. There’s no word on a wider theatrical or digital release date, but the film’s website indicates that it’s “set for release in 2012.” You can also check for updates on their Facebook page. I’ll definitely be looking for this one when it comes out.

While you might have thought it would be riddled with bullets, or maybe involve a horse head, it’s really just a massive, powerful PC in an ornate case. Inside, a 1940 Cadillac Fleetwood spins on a turntable as Don Corleone keeps his watchful eye on the mobo, power supply and cooling system, powered by MSI and Cooler Master components.

The guys over at Case Mod Blog spotted the Godfather PC casemod at the recent Campus Party event in Sao Paolo, Brazil. The case was made by Omar Majzoub – the same guy who brought us last year’s evil-filled Chucky casemod.

Maybe it’s just me, but I expected more blood.

Pictures don’t lie, but you aren’t really seeing real people flying around New York City. And while I was hoping they might be real people with jetpacks, they’re actually remote-controlled planes built in the shape of human beings. The R/C humans were made to fly around various landmarks in the Big Apple, including the Statue of Liberty.

They were thought up by the marketing people behind the upcoming movie, Chronicle. And even though I have never heard of the movie until now, this ploy makes me want to go see it. Just because.

For just $85 (USD), you can own a full-size replica of the original Mattel Hoverboard, handcrafted by JGDesignz. It looks very much like the one featured in the movie – after Marty McFly steals it from the little girl and pops the handle off, that is.

Each Hoverboard measures about 8″ wide by 27″ long, and is made out of rigid 1/2″ thick foam board, with hand-painted wood pieces on the bottom, coated with clear-coat and epoxied to the board. To finish it off, there are accurate vinyl decals on both sides, along with the velcro foot strap thing on the back too.

If you want one of these for yourself, head on over to Etsy, and get your order in right away. Since each one is handmade, there could be a backlog if there’s enough demand. JG is careful to point out that the hoverboard does not actually function, so don’t bother if you had your heart set on riding one. Of course, with 2015 just a few years away, you never know if Mattel will make these for real.

The scene is Max with his yellow, red and blue Ford Falcon XB Interceptor parked waiting to make his first chase in the flick. This chase set up pivotal events for later in the movie. The car the guy created even has the colors and stripes that are accurate to the movie car.

Sadly, there are no build photos or parts lists for those of you who want to try and recreate this yourselves. I would love to know how he put the car together.

Some geeks in Europe wanted the ability to stream movies so badly they resorted to hacks. Thankfully, you no longer have to use a hack to stream from the Android Market in the U.K. Google has announced today that the Google Video app is now working in the region. Android users can now get access to 1,000 different movies with rentals starting at £2.49.

The thing I like about the Android Market for rentals is that you can buy the flick and you have 30 days to watch it. That way you don’t rack up late fees if you forget about it or don’t have time to watch. Once you start to watch the movie, you have 48 hours to complete the movie. You can also watch the same movie on any device that can access the Android Market including computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Studios have been known to edge out the competition and plan for the future by scrambling to buy movie rights to what’s currently in. As a result of such race, movie rights to games such as Monopoly, The Sims, and even Battleship have all been signed and sealed. But seriously now, Farmville on the big screen?

Okay, so there’s no script for the movie – yet. But considerable talent have already been tapped to work on the project, namely, Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen, who co-wrote Pixar’s Toy Story. I think a movie about a farmer and his or her farm animals and crops might be a tad dull, unless some animals begin making moves on taking over the farm (sounds like George Orwell’s Animal Farm, I know) but I’m kind of wondering what specific elements Farmville has that movie makers want to use.

I’m curious, but I probably won’t be lining up to see the Farmville movie, if ever it does get produced and manages to reach theaters near me.

The SMELLIT (yes, that is seriously it’s name) is a new gadget from French company Olf-action (as in “olefaction”, get it?) and it’s designed to add “the smell dimension” to various forms of digital entertainment. And given the face that Olf-action already makes a smell-syncronization system for movie theaters called Odoravision, there’s a good chance this is going to be made into an actual product you can buy someday.

It’s certainly more stylish than the ScentScape device, but to be fair, they’re device was only a prototype when I saw it. They don’t say much about how it works, or what sort of smells it will emit, but from the picture of Kratos below, I can only imagine that they plan on offering the scents of body odor, blood and maybe death.

I’m guessing they’ll also offer more pleasant aromas like flowers, food and the ocean for other experiences. Here’s a list of fragrance cartridges they offer for their other systems I found up on their site (translated). My favorites have to be “Smell naked body” and “Bad smells”:

This LEGO Alien Hunter sculpture was made by Shawn Snyder, and is loaded with great amounts of detail – including an array of skulls from its victims. The only thing better would be to replace the skulls with Minifig heads instead, but I guess that would make it less realistic. But who ever said Predator was realistic anyway? After the first twenty minutes though, I was hooked.

The third movie in the Transformers franchise, Dark of the Moon, is now out in theaters. To commemorate the release, Razer themselves rolled out some colorful, Transformers-themed versions of their precision DeathAdder mouse. The specs are exactly the same as the versions that rolled out earlier, with the exception of the design, of course.

True-blue Transformers fans might either find these computer mice to die for–or to gag over, depending on their personal tastes, of course. I personally like the silver one the best.

Each of these mice is priced at $69.99 (USD). Aside from the DeathAdder mouse, Razer has also released dual-sided mouse mats that go for $44.99 and laptop sleeves priced at $49.99, all to celebrate Transformers 3.

The LS-20M will capture video in 1080p and records audio in 24-bit with variable gain. The onboard screen is only 2 inches, which might make it a little difficult to see what you’re shooting. In addition to full HD, it also does 720p and 640×480. It captures everything at 30FPS.

One thing that is nice about this gadget is the high-quality 96 kHz/24-bit Linear PCM audio recording and stereo microphones on the front of the camera.

I do question the usability of the LS-20M though. There are a lot of small buttons on its face, which could get confusing, and the lens is located at the top of the device, between the microphones. I guess you’ll end up pointing this device like a remote, so I’m not sure how you can look at the screen while recording. It does support something called “Reverse Angle Recording” which allows upside-down recording, so maybe that will help. The Olympus LS-20M should be available in June for about $300 (USD).

These posters were created by Michael B. Myers and you can check him out over on Behance. Myers is an illustrator for hire and he’s got a shine for superheroes (and pixels). I wouldn’t mind seeing him ‘render’ other superheroes and/or movie posters this way.

You can buy some of Myers’ prints here but his pseudo-pixel movie posters haven’t been added there yet.

The premise is quite simple. A scientist creates an android and he creates havoc when he’s captured and modified by his nemesis. The movie is 2 hours and 43 minutes long, so you have to watch it in at least two sittings, and the over-the-top action scenes are indescribable. Take a look at the embedded clip and you’ll see what I mean.

It’s well worth the 10 minutes. The movie has even more scenes like this, but it takes a while to get there. Most of this action happens towards the end of the movie.
