The technology world has gone tablet crazy thanks to the iPad and hoards of other Android tablets that are coming soon or already on the market. There are a number of people out there that like the idea of a tablet, but want it to run Windows so their familiar software from home or the office will work on it.

MSI has previously announced the Wind Pad 100W, a tablet that runs Windows 7 Starter. Now reports are coming in that the tablet is available to purchase. If you aren’t familiar with the 100W, it has a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600. The machine uses a special “Wind Touch” user interface over the Windows 7 OS to make it more tablet friendly. The CPU inside is an Atom Z530 at 1.6GHz and it has 2GB of RAM. Storage is provided by a 32GB SSD, and the battery promises over six hours. The tablet also has front and rear cameras, mini HDMI out, a SD card reader and WiFi.

It sells for $709 (USD) and sounds like a really expensive netbook minus the keyboard to me.

MSI is a name that many geeks will recognize for making some nice notebooks and netbooks. The company is always adding new gear to its line to try and part geeks from their dollars. The latest additions to the MSI family are the GX660 and GX660R. These machines are multimedia rigs that should work for moderate gaming as well.

The GX660 has a 15.6-inch screen and uses an Intel Core i5-450M CPU. The graphics are handled by ATI Radeon HD 5870 Broadway XT video card. The rig has 4GB of RAM and 500GB of storage along with a 720p Webcam, Bluetooth, and WiFi. HDMI out and USB 3.0 are also built-in. the GX660 starts at $1449.99 (USD).

The GX660R is the big brother to the standard GX660. It has many of the same features, but differs in a few notable specs. The 15.6-inch screen gets a super sharp 1920 x 1080 resolution, and the CPU is upgraded to a zippy Core i7-740QM. The GX660R also has 6GB of RAM, 640GB of storage, and a Blu-ray drive along with the other features of its little brother. It starts at $1749.99.

Hey guys, remember the Cideko air keyboard/mouse combo I was lusting after last June? According to German site Netbook News, Cideko has partnered with MSI to be able to reach out more customers.

For those too lazy to read my first article, screw you. But let’s hug it out while I tell you what’s so nice about this device. As you can see it’s a wireless keyboard, but what you can’t see is that it has an accelerometer which lets users use the whole thing as a mouse as well. The left and right mouse buttons are located on its shoulder, so you don’t have to shift your grip in between typing and mousing.

The keyboard has a USB dongle, giving it a range of up to 50 m and making it compatible with major operating systems. Watch as this talking plaid shirt demos the keyboard and gives tips on proper usage:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

Remember: chu conchol the keyborrh, genchly turrh yo wrish, do nah mooh yo arrhm dish weih.

The air keyboard will go on sale in Germany this March for €79 (approx. $106 USD)… but a quick search shows that a non-MSI rebranded version is already on sale at Amazon for only $90! Now if only I had a credit card.

Here’s a fun one. Some guys in Japan has taken an old Super Nintendo (known as the Super Famicom over there) and turned it into a Windows PC.

The computer is running a full version of Windows Vista Ultimate. Apparently they started with an MSI Axis 945GM barebones system and rejiggered it to fit into the gaming system’s case. I especially like how they labeled the game cartridge to look like it contains the Windows install. Very clever.

Now what would be really fun would be to boot up a Super Nintendo emulator on this system, so we can play some Donkey Kong Country.
