The Pipe Mug is made of high-quality ceramic. It measures 4.25″ tall and 4″ wide and has a capacity of 14 oz. Although it’s microwave-friendly, Fangamer says that “nuking it could hurt its lifespan”, and that you should wash it by hand to make the color last longer.

You can buy the Pipe Mug from Fangamer for $35 (USD). It comes with a random one of four custom-molded Block Coasters, which you can buy as a set for $12 too. Someone should mod it so that it makes the pipe sound effect when something is put inside.

Okay, so that’s exaggerating things a little because coffee in a pretty fine mug can’t very well be explosive in the figurative sense of the word if you don’t know how to brew really good coffee. In the occasion that you do, you can pour it into this quirky looking Bob-omb-inspired mug for the ultimate coffee experience.

In case you aren’t very familiar with who (or what) Bob-omb is, they’re actually those tiny, mechanical wind-up bombs in the Super Mario Bros. games that walk towards you and perch down when they’re ready to explode, hoping for either Mario or Luigi to walk close by.

If you’re like me, then you probably can’t get through the day without at least having one steaming mug of coffee. With the Wind Up Mug, you can literally sit back in your seat and unwind as you sip some awesomely brewed goodness.

Available from Baron Bob’s for $11.95 each.

I’m not a tea drinker, Mountain Dew is my beverage of choice. However, I do live with a couple of people who love them some tea. Seriously, I think there’s an entire cabinet just dedicated to the stuff.

One thing I’ve always thought strange was how the little paper bit just dangled off of the side of the mug. It’s practically begging to slip into your piping hot water, thus forcing you to fish it out and make a small mess. There are plenty of creative solutions, I’m sure, but here’s one that I’ve not seen.

This $25 Tie Tea Cup by designer George Lee has two special notches in the lip. You can use these to wrap the string around, securing the teabag in its place. Seems like a simple enough concept. I have to say though, the price does seem a little off-putting. I mean, if you’re someone that drinks tea often enough to warrant this purchase, you’ll probably want to buy a set of four, but I can’t imagine paying a hundred bucks simply so your teabag stays where it should.

Attention fans of Doctor Who and caffeine! Listen up! I have here your next purchase – a coffee mug that’s based on the Doctor’s main mode of transportation, the TARDIS.

The TARDIS mug is guaranteed to keep your coffee hot, while it can also transport it nearly instantaneously to any location in time or space. Heck, you can even send your coffee across the office to your boss and spill it in his lap if you so desire.

Each TARDIS mug even comes with an authentic police call box lid to keep your java hot while it whizzes across the universe. Entertainment Earth is taking pre-orders for the $18.99(USD) mug to start shipping this October. But if you already have a TARDIS, you could just transport yourself into the future to receive yours now.

I wonder if the mug actually holds much more coffee than it looks like it can hold from the outside. That would be cool – if not physically impossible.

While a tweeting mug could be kind of cool, it would be pretty useless unless you’d be able to input some swanky 140-character tweets. Maybe something like “This coffee is too hot. I’ll wait to drink it.” or “Needs more sugar.” To make your own Twitter Mug, just head on over to CrowdedInk, input your Twitter username and pony up your $15 bucks.

For an office warrior, it’s kind of cool to have such a one-of-a-kind mug. You’ll be sure that no one can get away with stealing yours from the office, because no one has the exact same mug.

I am not a big fan of hot drinks. Usually I will drink a cup of hot chocolate around the holidays, but otherwise I stick to nice, cold Diet Dr. Pepper. The wife, on the other hand doesn’t function until she has a few cups of coffee in her.

She gets really grumpy if her coffee gets cold and she chugs a mouthful of the tepid brew. She needs this mug from the Art Lebedev Studio. You probably recognize the name from the much cooler products the design firm usually offers like the Optimus Maximus OLED keyboard.

This coffee cup has a battery outline on it that has a green temperature indicator. The temp gauge shows when a liquid inside is more than 96.8F. The fuller the cup, the higher the gauge goes. This might be a good thing, especially in my household. I could look at the cup from a distance and if the gauge were not showing, I would know not to talk to my wife for a while.

Although this mug has got its barcode all around, for some reason it’s called the BEEP Mug. It was created by the British designer Colin O’Dowd and the mug does more than just look cool, it eliminates the need for any excessive packaging, since its own UPC barcode is integrated into the design of the mug.

It’s a great idea, though it defeats the purpose if you’re shipping one of these mugs. If you’re just picking one up in a store, I guess it makes more sense.

Unfortunately, the BEEP Mug isn’t yet available, so you’ll need to keep your eyes peeled on the Designboom store if you want one. Barcode scanner not included.

I have no idea why it’s taken over 30 years for someone to come up with an R2-D2 coffee cup, but it looks like the Star Wars licensing crew has finally given in to their caffeine cravings and authorized one.

And a damned fine R2-D2 coffee cup it is, complete with a removable dome that’ll keep your coffee warm when you leave it sitting on your desk. For the time being, CubeWorks’ ceramic R2 mug is only available in Japan, but I’m hopeful somebody will decide to import some so I can finally satisfy my Starbucks and Star Wars addictions in a single maneuver.

I found these over on Japan’s Tanomi hobby site for ¥1800 (appx. $20 bucks) each, but by they time to pay to ship something this fragile from Japan, I’m betting you’ll be paying more for shipping than the mug itself cost.

Technabob geek gift tip: Goes great with this Star Wars Coffee T-shirt.

How many times have you walked into the employee break room to grab a cup of Joe, only to find that some ass-hat has “borrowed” your coffee cup out of the cabinet? Well now, you can finally do something to make sure that your mug is safe from pilfering by co-workers once and for all.

Spinning Hat’s Plug Mug features an ingenious design that ensures that only the person in possession of the watertight drain plug can partake of a cuppa without ending up with a scalding hot lap full of liquid. And you’ve got no reason to feel guilty if that were to befall Susie Secretary when she walks off with your cup. If the bright exclamation mark and stop sign and gaping hole in the side of the mug aren’t sufficient warning, she fully deserves what she gets.

You can grab the Plug Mug over at UK gadget shop I Want One of Those for £9.99 (Appx. $14 USD.)

While it’s officially being called a “stein” thanks to its flip-top head, the ceramic Dark Lord mug is perfect for those of us who like a really big cup of coffee.

The oversize mug has a 24 ounce capacity, more than enough joe to keep you buzzing all morning long. Of course, you’re not allowed to add any cream or sugar, as Darth only drinks his java black.

If you prefer a different kind of buzz, you can always fill it with beer and bring it to toast at next year’s Oktoberfest.

The Darth Vader Stein is available from Amazon for around $14 USD.

I was tooling around over at Chicago’s Bucktown Arts Fest this past weekend, and thought to myself, what are the chances that I’ll actually stumble onto any good geeky crafts? But lo and behold, the first booth I step into had these great handmade robot ceramic cups.

Designed by artist Amy Allison of Soda by Amy, each porcelain robot vessel features the likeness of a robot man, woman or child. Since each one is hand built, they’re all slightly different shapes, sizes and textures. Thanks to their simple design, you can use ‘em for sipping coffee, organizing pens and pencils or as a flower vase. And yes, they’re lead free and dishwasher safe, so drink up!

Amy’s robot cups range in price from $16 to $20 each. While they’re not shown on the Soda by Amy Etsy shop at present, I’m sure she’ll be happy to accept your orders if you drop her a message. Think of it as a secret club that only we know about.

Oktoberfest may be months away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start preparing now, does it? If only we could get our grubby little paws on one of these super special Super Mario Brothers 1up ‘shroom beer mugs, we’d be ready to belly up to the bar right now.

These old-world Bavarian beer mugs were hand-formed from clay and relief-printed with Mario’s familiar life-giving mushrooms.

Unfortunately, these handcrafted 1up mugs aren’t available in stores, and were only made in a limited edition as gifts for clients of design publication Die Krieger des Lichts (aka Warriors of the Light).

I’ll personally buy a six-pack for the first person who manages to get their hands on one of these and sends it my way.

A little while back, I told you guys about a nifty coffee mug that could automatically change states from “on” to “off” when a hot beverage hit its surface. While that mug turned out to be insanely popular, many of you pointed out the fact that a simple change in the design to read “hot / cold” would make infinitely more sense. Well ask, and ye shall receive.

The gang over at Charles & Marie listened to your feedback, and have worked with Dutch designer Damien O’Sullivan to produce a new version of the minimal black-and-white mug that says “cold” when it’s cold, and “hot” when it’s hot. It’s amazing how one small text change can really make such a difference. Heck, just the utility of knowing when that coffee that’s been sitting in there all day long is cold as ice should be enough to merit the $25 price tag.

Charles & Marie is now offering the Hot/Cold mug on a pre-order basis now, so if you want one, you’d better head on over and place your order. They should start shipping in about three weeks.

In its dormant state, the mug offers a black “OFF” display, but once your hot coffee or tea hits the inside, it gradually transforms to read “ON”. A heat sensitive pigment changes the color of the mug from black to white.

While it may be designed for coffee, the $25 mug is Charles & Marie’s “Soupe du Jour” offer of the day. So if you want one in time for the holidays, you better grab yours now.

The WMF1 Coffee Pad takes a single portioned coffee filter and can brew up a fresh cup of Java in about 1 minute. The compact coffee maker features a clean white design, with a choice of four accent colors: kiwi (green), mango (yellow), berry (red) and stone (dark grey). And yes, it includes the perfectly-fitted ceramic mug. The brilliantly minimal design even won a 2007 red dot award for its creators.

At this point, the Coffee Pad is only available in a European 220-volt configuration, so you’ll need a power converter to use it here in the States. It’s available now from French online retailer Singulier for €139 (appx. $198 USD).
