Super Mario Mushroom Case Mod: Power On to Power Up

We love a good retro case mod and nothing says retro like a Super Mario Bros. mushroom. This one comes from Etsy seller 8BitBuilder (who created the even more special Zelda PC case) and it is an awesome looking Super Mario Mushroom PC tower case mod that that looks like it is about to lift off like a rocket.

If you have deep pockets, it can be yours for $1600(USD) over on Etsy. Sure that’s a little expensive, but it saves you the trouble of gluing hundreds of wooden cubes together and painting the whole thing. Plus you are getting a computer inside as well. It looks amazing. I just love those lights on the bottom. Too bad I don’t have the money to get one or the time to make one for myself.

I’d love to see this done as a 1-up mushroom. That would be even cooler because each purchase would give you another life.

1UP Super Mario Mushroom Lamp Won’t Give Lives, But Will Give Light

I have to admit that these lights are kind of cute, especially if you spend a lot of hours in front of a computer and love Super Mario Bros. While I can’t say if they’ll give you an extra life or make you grow bigger, these new green and red mushrooms from Super Mario Bros still look pretty cool.

These LED lights can double as night lights as well. While they can’t run off magic, they do use battery-power or USB-power to make them light up. Just make sure that no one tries to eat these, or they’ll be in for a nasty stomach ache.

The USB Mushroom Lamp is available from ThinkGeek for $9.99 (USD). Personally, glowing Starman LED lights would make more sense to me.

Super Mario Starman Candy: Now You Can Be Invincible All the Time

Ah, the starman! In Super Mario Bros., you hunt those down guys to become invincible. Now you can get them in real life, courtesy of this candy.

Super Mario Bros. Star Candy come in a nice box that’s filled with star-shaped candy. Now, you can walk around pretending you’re invincible although you’d only be in your own mind. There’s also a 1Up mushroom and a normal mushroom candy box available as well.

Too bad some people report that the candy doesn’t taste all that good, but I have to say that at as little as $1.70 for a tin it’s cheap enough for you to try for yourself. Then again, candy is meant to be eaten, and creating candy that doesn’t taste good is somewhat strange.

Super Mario Mushroom and Goomba iPad Cases Make Me Want to Buy an iPad

The whole world knows that Super Mario turned 25 this month, but you know who else turned 25? Everyone else in that game. How else would Mario grow instantaneously without the help of the Super Mushroom? Isn’t the 1-up Mushroom as iconic as Mario himself? Is there a famous video game website named Mario.com? Yeah I didn’t think so. But we do have this. And how would we have known that jumping on an enemy kills it while being touched by one kills Mario, if not for that first Goomba who sacrificed his life to serve as a tutorial? That’s why we should thank HoobyGroovy. Not only does it have a hoobily groovily name, the shop also sells these adorable Super Mushroom, 1-up Mushroom and Goomba iPad cases.

The exterior, lining and closure flap of the cases are made from cotton, while hook and loop tape secures the flap. Each case also has a second pocket that’s spacious enough for a notebook to fit in. The iPad pocket also has wadding in it for added protection to the iPad.

You can order these iPad cases at HoobyGroovy’s Etsy page for $40 (USD) each. What about Luigi you ask? I prefer to think of Super Mario Bros. 2 as his real debut, so he’s just 22 right now. And we all know there’s nothing special about being a 22-year old.

The 27-inch iMacs are probably made in a similar way. Except that they accidentally used Poison Mushrooms. Oh, snap!

Stained Glass Mario Mushroom Powers Up Ordinary Windows

Who here among us doesn’t like super mushrooms? After all, they’re red, delicious and give you plenty of extra strength. This handmade stained glass power-up mushroom is sure too remind give you a jolt of happy whenever you look at the light of day through it each morning.

Created by stained glass artist Radiant Art, this stained glass super ‘shroom was created as an homage to the classic 8-bit Super Mario Bros. series. Instead of being made from pixels, it’s made from colorful glass. The piece was created from over 80 individual pieces of glass and comes in a 15-inch square zinc frame – I’m pretty sure there was no zinc in the Mushroom Kingdom. All I remember is gold coins. So much for accuracy. Feh.

1up Mushroom Glass Perfect for a Pick Me Up

Do you still have a couple of cases of Super Mario Power-up! Energy Drink hiding in the back of your pantry? Here’s the perfect way to chug down the next glass of that sticky sweet gunk.

I found this hand-etched Mario 1UP Mushroom glass tumbler ($15 USD) over on Placidrain’s Etsy shop this morning. While it’s great for any beverage, I like to think that whatever you put in there has to involve caffeine, guarana, ginseng, or in my case, a shot of whiskey. Unless, of course you think its one of those poison mushrooms, in which case Jagermeister would be more apropos.

If Mario isn’t quite your thing, Placidrain’s HI-O Kitty custom glassware line also features such unlikely delights as a Hello Kitty beer bottle and a World of Warcraft Horde tumbler. Huzzah!

Hidden Radio: This Futuristic Mushroom Masks a Cool Radio

The Hidden Radio by John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen is designed to make the human-radio interaction more intuitive and less cluttered. Also, it’s designed to make your radio look more like a futuristic mushroom than a regular radio.

So how does it work? They say, “lifting the lid increases the volume proportionally with height” which means, of course, that moving the cap up makes it louder and moving the cap down makes it quieter. To change the station, you just rotate the cap. There is an LED light in the base that gets brighter and darker with tuning.

Of course, like so many cool gizmos this thing isn’t available yet, but you can visit their website, from which you can send them an e-mail and pester them to make it.

What Mario Eats for Dinner: the 1-Up Mushroom Burger

In case you’re looking to geek out your 4th of July BBQ, here’s an idea for you- make mushroom burgers that look like the 1-up mushrooms in Super Mario Bros. After all of the Mario-themed cakes and cupcakes and whatnot, it’s refreshing to see someone branch out into the savory realm.

Instructables user momo! created this masterpiece and describes the process right here. She dyed the bun with food coloring and made the spots out of mozzarella circles.

What I like about this most is that the burger is actually a mushroom burger so it doesn’t just look like a 1-up mushroom, it tastes like one too. Of course if you’re more of a traditionalist you could go with cow flesh and just top it with some mushrooms. Regardless, I think a plate of spotty green buns would be a definite head-turner at any event. Especially if you happen to wear overalls, a cap, and an oversized mustache.

Super Mario Mushroom Guys Get Solar Powered

These wacky things out of Japan feature the likeness of Toad, the familiar mushroom character from the Super Mario games.

The fun part is that these mushrooms wiggle back and forth when powered by the sun (or a desk lamp.) They’re just about 5-inches tall and make a great desktop gadget for the Mario fan in your life.
