Until recently, I wasn’t aware that there’s a diabolically awesome trend that involves customizing My Little Pony figures, like this horrifying L4D Hunter Pony. Shame on me. Time to catch up! deviantART member Blondeyetti took a pony, applied some “Sculpey, stone effect spray paint, acrylics and “burnt grass” flocking” to come up with a seventeeth being for Wander to defeat.

And just like the other colossi, this equine monster has a body part that Wander can exploit – the grass or moss on its rear legs will provide the Shadow of the Colossus hero with a means of clambering up its body so that he can repeatedly stab its weak point. Or, you know, he can just crush this tiny threat under his feet. This thing is what, 5 inches tall?

I’m undecided on the custom My Little Pony phenomenon. Every time I want to like it, I see something completely outrageous like these Silent Hill ponies. Pyramid Head does not inspire love in me. Well, maybe a little, in a twisted way.

There is nothing about this picture that doesn’t disturb me on some level. Look at the wooden fence in the background! You don’t see fences like that in places of happiness and fun. Someone always ends up impaled when there’s a fence like that around, and if the fence doesn’t do it, Pyramid Head will.

Sorry, distracted by memories of Silent Hill 2. Anyway, these Silent Hill ponies are available on eBay. $30 apiece (or more, by the time of auction’s end) seems like a lot, but the detail work is pretty good, and these are a lot more elaborate than many custom ponies I’ve seen. And a lot creepier.

Just when you thought it was safe to surf the Internet again without running into custom Portal gear working to lure you back into your addiction to Valve’s hit game, the fandom rush has returned in pony form. My Little Pony form, that is. Ah, when two fandoms collide!

The My Little Ponies have enjoyed a wacky resurgence in the past several years, and that’s partially due to the custom ponies fad. As the above demonstrates, pony artists change hair, repaint eyes, and customize the pony’s body as well, and as with so many other crafts, video games are a popular theme.

That said, it’s still unusual to see not one, but two new Portal ponies this week!

While the first pony sprang from a more general inspiration with the game, this second is a clear homage to the Weighted Companion Cube, which I guess makes it the Weighted Companion Pony. Of course, the first one has the infamous cake (or does it?), so it would be a clear winner if we were talking about a pony vs. pony deathmatch of custom pony goodness. But since we’re not, you can enjoy them both.
