Actually, this wasn’t the main wedding cake, but actually a groom’s cake that blogger The Domestic Scientist recently made for a friend’s wedding. And while the cake is fully edible (black icing, gumpaste ghosts and all) you might not want to try and eat the Pac-Couple – as they’re crafted from Super Sculpey. (Unless you’re into eating modeling clay.)

Created in celebration of Pac-Man’s impending 30th birthday (boy, I feel old), these limited-edition series of Zippo lighters from Banpresto includes shiny, butane-filled versions of Pac-Man, Galaxian, Xevious and Dig Dug. Each one features the pixelated likenesses of the classic 8-bit games – although I have to say I like the tiny little tactile Galaxians the best. Although I would argue that Galaga was the true classic. And while I don’t smoke, I’ll buy just about anything with Dig Dug on it, so I’m sold.

They sell for ¥8400 (appx. $93 USD) each, so I guess I’ll have to skip meals this week so I can afford one. For now, I’ve only found these in Japan, but hopefully somebody will export these for all to enjoy. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.

I first eyed Hallmark’s keepsake Pac-Man holiday ornament back in December 2008, and grabbed one for my tree then. Now it turns out that they’re starting a collectible arcade machine series, with the recent announcement of a Galaga ornament for 2009. Shweet!

Not only do these incredibly detailed mini arcade cabinet ornaments look great hanging from any tree, they actually light up and play the original game theme music when you press a tiny little 1-player start button on the front panel.

You can still find a handful of the Pac-Man ornaments over on Amazon, and the you can get the Galaga on your holiday wish list over at Hallmark so you can grab one when it’s released this October. I’m hoping that 2010 brings Dig-Dug.

In addition to tasty round power pellets, there’s sour blue raspberry blue ghosts, and tart cherry Blinky ghosts, which I imagine turn into raspberry blue ghosts after you eat a couple of power pills. But I could be wrong on that. And while I’m thinking about it, have you ever seen an actual blue raspberry? And no, that Icee that turned your tongue all shades of ultramarine doesn’t count.

I think I know what I’m gonna keep in my desk drawer for between-meal snacks from now on. Pac-Man candies are available from FredFlare for $12 for the set of three tins.

This quirky homebrew variant on Pac-Man from IMWILL envisions a world where nothing is bolted down, including the interior walls of the maze. Once the gameplay kicks in, gravity switches off, and Inky, Blinky, Pinky, Clyde, the power pills and dots all get to floating around the darkness of space.

You won’t be able to get through this game by memorizing patterns while playing this version. Heck, you’ll be lucky to survive a 30 seconds without a floating ghost smashing right into you. Your only hope is to gobble up a power pill, which turns on gravity for a few seconds, sucking every object in the direction of the red gravity arrow – but the ghosts never turn blue for you to chomp on. Good luck with all that.

The whole thing sort of reminds me of that time Homer Simpson let that bag of potato chips loose in the space capsule and had to eat them all.

The cherry flavored drink is the perfect cure for cooling you down when you’re infected with Pac-Man Fever. Influenced heavily by Sam Thornley’s Pac-Man Mini, modder ela built this portable Ms. Pac-Man Mini video game system using the guts of one of those Jakks Ms. Pac-Man TV Games, and put its circuitry inside the power brick of an old printer.

A couple of cuts for a 2.5″ Intec LCD display, some old SNES controller buttons, pieces of an old VCR and a whiff or two of hot glue, and the mini console was complete. The whole thing runs on a set of AA batteries, so it requires no external power.

The best part, of course – no quarters required.

Created by Rockza, the PacManiac series of briefcases is the perfect way to carry around a small notebook computer, papers and books, or as a lightweight carry-on for your next trip.

The bags are available in several styles, including one that’s covered with hundreds of colorful, pixelated denizens of Pac-World, and another with a slightly more subtle grey-on-black design. It looks like Rockza also makes a white version and a blue version, but they’re harder to find (and don’t look as good, IMHO). Each bag measures appx. 14″ x 10.25″ x 6″, which should hold a 14″ or smaller laptop.

Now the bad news. I can’t find anyone outside of Korea who’s selling these yet. If you’re willing to dive in and do a little translation, you might be able to get your hands on them over at HIPHOPER for 54,000 KRW (appx. $39 USD).

The Arcade Gold connects to any TV and lets you play Pac-Man, Super Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Man Plus, Galaxian, Bosconian, Dig Dug and New Rally X. For those of you playing at home, Jakks has basically combined their Namco Classics and Super Pac-Man systems into a single package, but kept the price under $20 bucks.

All games play with the original arcade graphics and sounds, and the big red ball joystick controller is perfect for retro gameplay. An added bonus over the original models is the built-in memory that lets you save your high scores even when the power is off. The only bad news is that the joystick is only a 4-way stick, making the diagonal-dependent Bosconian all but unplayable. Oh well, whaddya want for $20 bucks?

Nope, there’s nothing even remotely reminiscent of Pac-Man going on in QAYOT’s Pouf-Man designer seating collection. It’s just a strange coincidence that it has a similar name, that’s all.

I mean really, Pac-Man gobbled power pills and munched on ROUND dots. Nowhere in the original game do I remember any power squares or chewy cubes, do you? And Pac-Man was yellow, not black, white, brown or red, no?

While I like to think this Katamari wedding cake is filled with tiny buildings, cruise ships, cows and wildly gesticulating little people, it’s actually just lemon cake with strawberry filling. Oh well, it still sounds delicious to me. Besides, those airplanes have a tendency to get stuck in my teeth anyhow.

This amazing Katamari Damacy wedding cake was created by the appropriately named Mike’s Amazing Cakes of Redmond, Washington for the recent wedding of Flickr contributor offwithyourtv.

I wonder what happens if you try and cut into the chewy center of a Katamari? Does the universe explode? Or is it like a piñata, and do all of the items trapped inside come pouring out all of the place?

And if it wasn’t obvious enough that these guys are serious videogame fanatics, they finished off their wedding ceremony with a round of Guitar Hero.

Created by modder Sam Thornley, the portable Pac-Man Mini console gets its brains from one of those Jakks Pacific Namco Arcade Classic systems, seamlessly melded with a tiny 2.5-inch LCD display and powered by a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries for easy travel.

While the screenshot photos below look a bit blurry, Sam assures us that the screen is actually very sharp thanks to a direct composite video connection to the Jakks circuit.

Besides Pac-Man, the chunky portable system can play Galaxian, Rally-X, Bosconian, and my personal arcade version of crack, Dig Dug.

The only thing left out of the portable console is a sound system. That’s because those Namco “arcade on a chip” systems that run those Jakks systems don’t offer the exact same sounds that the original versions played, and Sam is clearly an arcade purist.

Sure, I suppose Sam could have just gone an grabbed a copy of Namco Museum for the Nintendo DS, GBA or Sony PSP, but what fun would that have been?

Technabob fave artist lostmitten has recently broken into the art of needlepoint, hand-stitching pixel-perfect scenes from classic video games like this one from everyone’s favorite dot-gobbler, Pac-Man.

As an added bonus, you can actually lay your grubby little mitts on this for your own room. Of course, that is if you run willy-nilly over to Lostmitten’s Etsy shop and plunk down your $20 bucks before it’s gone.

Scott’s whimsical Pac-Man illustrations show the iconic gaming characters in a number of everyday (depending on what your days are like) situations, from recreating the Napoleon Dynamite bike jump scene to trying out some fabulous new hair-dos.

The current series, entitled Pac Man Set 2, is available in sets of five limited-edition giclee mini prints (2.75″ x 2.75″ each) over at Gallery 1988 for just $65 a set.

Does Ms. Pac-Man have a beauty mark? For some reason, I never noticed that until now. I guess I was distracted by her luscious lips and sexy hair bow.

Can I have one of these on my bed? Please?

Stitched by the arcade fans from Carolina Patchworks (who’ve also brought us some great Galaga, Mario and Zelda quilts), the 110″ x 50″ Pole Position throw is wide enough to keep four people cozy and warm under its race-car adorned surface.

The quilt can be found in their Etsy shop for $375 — or enough for 1500 quarters to pump into the original arcade machine.

Created by Lady Harvatine, the stuffed arcade machine captures the spirit of some of my fondest arcade memories. Inspired by these most excellent papercraft arcade creations, she set off to create her own unique spin on the arcade classic. The centerpiece of the squishy system has to be the piece of retro Pac-Man fabric that a friend of hers scrounged up for the screen.

Affectionately known as “Pac-y”, the plush arcade machine has a stuffed joystick and two coin slots that actually will eat your coins (there’s a zipper in the back that lets you retrieve your money).

The machine is the first of the Lady’s “Harvacade” collection. I’m hoping for some Donkey Kong or Dig Dug next.
