There are thousands of different iPad and iPhone cases out there, but other than watch bands, the little iPod nano hasn’t got that many, which is one of the reasons why Pad & Quill developed the Littlest Black Book, a teeny tiny case for your iPod nano.

Pad & Quill have launched a Kickstarter project to crowdfund this tiny book cover iPod nano 6G case. Its style will please you if you like Moleskine notebooks.

You’ll have to pledge $34(USD) to get your own Littlest Black Book over at Kickstarter. At the time of writing, they have amassed $828 out of their $4,500 goal, and there are 28 days left. Even if this thing started out as an April Fools prank, it seems that people are willing to spend their money on one, so there’s a good chance these will be produced.

A nano-sized device should require a nano-sized dock, that’s basically what Gavio decided to do with their new speaker dock, The Pill. It will match your iPod nano (6G) quite well, since it doesn’t take up much space, it’s also easily portable.

Gavio is a Singapore-based company and their Pill dock reminds me of the capsules in The Matrix, though I wouldn’t want to try and swallow one of these. It measures 5.78″ wide by 1.89″ in diameter, and appears to have a speaker at each end of the pill, as well as track and volume controls which are accessed located on a ring towards each end. The product page doesn’t mention any detailed specs, but they’ll probably update them soon.

The Pill dock will be available for pre-order soon. There’s no mention of price or availability, but my guess is that this little speaker dock won’t break the back. It looks like an easy and fun way to share your tunes if you use an iPod nano.

I’m not sure if Apple will change the shape of the iPod Nano any time soon, but Incase is probably hoping that it will stay the same (or maybe they know something we don’t). Their new Flex Wristband Case looks pretty cool, even though I still can’t see it being that comfortable with a headphone cord sticking out of it.

The Flex Wristband is made out of a stretchy material, similar to the bands found on many metal wristwatches. This case has got holes in all the right spots, so that you can still access the headphone jack and the connector to charge it up. This means that your iPod Nano can stay in this case while it juices up.

It comes in a silver or gold color, so it’s quite distinctive. The Flex Wristband will sell for $49.95 (USD). You can head to Incase’s website to order yours.

I’ve run across plenty of those little plug-and-play retro gaming systems before, but this one wins the prize for being the smallest one I’ve seen yet. This pint-sized system is a fully self-contained SEGA Genesis emulator, capable of playing several Sonic the Hedgehog games.

AtGames’ (aka Sapphire) Arcade Nano Sonic system is small enough to hang on your keychain or backpack, but packs ten games under the hood. Five of the games are classic SEGA Genesis games including Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, and Alex Kidd. There are also five “bonus” games including Air Hockey, Naval Power, Cannon, Fight or Lose and Checker, all of which I’ve never heard of before, so I’m gonna guess they’re not all that. The tiny system has a built-in joystick and buttons, runs on a single AAA battery and connects to a composite video and mono audio jack on your TV.

If Sonic isn’t your thing, they’re also making Nano Columns and Nano Virtua Fighter 2 versions, each with their own collection of five classic and five bonus games. I’m not sure what games come with Columns, but the VF2 version packs in some good ones, including Shinobi 3, Golden Axe, Golden Axe 3, and Alien Storm.

If you have any doubts about these miniscule systems, here’s a video review of the Sonic one in action:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

While it looks like the emulation isn’t 100% perfect, it still looks pretty playable to me, and these still look like a great gift for classic SEGA fanatics. All three Genesis Nano systems can be found over at Walmart for $19.96 each.

I never really was that interested in an iPod Nano, but this little watch band might make me change my mind. It basically makes your iPod Nano look like a bona fide watch. Plus, it also looks pretty good.

The watch band is made by Hex and you can currently pre-order it for $24.95 (USD). Plus, if you pre-order now, you’ll get an extra 10% off – not too shabby. It comes in 9 different colors, and it’s probably the best looking watch band for the iPod nano.

There’s only one problem that I can see: the earphone cable has to go through your sleeve so that it’s nicely hidden away. That doesn’t make much sense and will grow old pretty quickly, since I don’t see people do this while they are listening to their iPod Nano. However, if you’re not listening to music on it, that won’t be a problem.

Created by “Dr Grymm,” this steampunk contraption bears absolutely no resemblance to the iPod Nano that beats at its heart.

I’ll leave it to Dr Grymm himself to explain his creation:

“A custom mod of an Apple iPod Nano 1st Gen. The design is inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The “eye-Pod” can be worn on the wrist via the leather cuff, or placed on it’s custom Victrola base. All functionality of the iPod remain intact and a hidden USB cord retracts from the base to either a wall charger or your computer. There are hidden pressure plates that when touched send a strobing “static charge” into the quartz crystals on either side of the magnified veiwing portal. Music can be heard either through the Victrola horn or though a portable personal hearing apparatus.”

Now I haven’t quite figured out how you’d possible war this on your wrist, but maybe I just can’t figure it out without my spectacles on. To see the eye-Pod and other wondrous Victorian-era technologies up close and personal, strap yourself into your flying machine and head on over to the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, UK for their Steampunk exhibition, which runs through February 21, 2010.

Engineer Benjamin Kokes used to work for the now-defunct GPS company Nemerix. While he was there, he started working on a GPS peripheral for the iPod nano as a personal challenge. From the looks of it, he still has quite a ways to go, but at least he has shown that it’s feasible.

Kokes used “a reference design board containing a Nemerix GPS with an Atmel ATMEGA324 micro-controller” for his hack. He said that the hardware part of his project “is not at all that complex”, but then again he’s an engineer. The software portion, on the other hand, turned out to be a beast of a challenge, as he had to write a screen driver to display the information on the iPod.

Kokes also said that the device he’s working on will not work with touchscreen iPods – and Shuffles of course, because they have no screen at all.

I’ll stop here and direct you to Kokes’ website for more details, because honestly this is all nosebleeding-wizardry to me.

P.S. if you want to post about Kokes’ project or link to his site, he requests that you email him as well, just so he knows.

Here’s one of those things that makes me go, “why not?”: Building Brick iPod Speakers. On one hand, Lego and iPod barely have anything to do with each other. On the other hand, why not?

The Building Brick iPod Speakers, aka iPod Brick, aka iBlock, but not aka Lego iPod speakers, works with 3rd-5th gen iPods, 1st-3rd gen iPod Nanos and on the iPod touch. I swear I had to retype those iStuff so many times. cOnfusing aS hEll. I mean, they’re not made by aPple.

The center bottom pegs act as nifty volume up and volume down buttons. The speakers are also said to have an “Active Bass System”. Which just might be a fancy way of saying that it has bass. Tinny, but it’s there. It sells for $20 at Think Geek, and no it doesn’t fit together with ordinary Lego blocks. Also, I don’t know if Think Geek only has the blue ones, because for UK residents there are no blue blocks but there are red, white, and black blocks over at iWant One of Those, and they’re $2 cheaper too.

[via I Want One of Those and Think Geek]

The iStik is a gadget that uses strong magnets to stick your iPod to your clothing, because everyone knows that in this fast-paced world of ours, clips and armbands are just not cutting it.

The iStik is described as having eight “high tech, Neodynium magnets which create an extreme magnetic attraction.” There are versions available only for the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod nano. It appears to have been invented and brought to market by these attractive, well-tanned catalog models.

Here’s a video of a guy doing a bunch of bouncy tricks on a bicycle that is meant to prove that even if your workout includes riding up wooden stairs on a bike, no problem, iStik is there for you. (Since my “workout” usually consists of sitting on the couch while feeling bad about how I’m not working out, I don’t find it particularly relevant, but perhaps you will.)

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

You can buy one from the iStik website for around $25. I’d also like to mention that iStik is yet another product that uses that age-old naming equation lowercase i + capitalized word with extra consonants removed = gadget you may or may not need. Nice work, guys.

This has got to be one of the strangest iPod accessories I’ve ever seen. Just slip your iPod Nano into this camouflage jacket, and it’ll look just like a hunk of pricey (and delicious) Kobe beef.

Created by Japan’s Solid Alliance, the case comes packaged in a clever styrofoam butcher’s tray which helps complete the meaty illusion. Now why you’d ever want your iPod to look like a slab of meat is anyone’s guess. My first instinct would be to throw my Nano on the grill and cook it over a 550-degree flame. For some reason, I don’t think that would be a good idea.

If you’re just not getting enough red meat in your diet, head on over to GeekStuff4U and grab one. At the insane price of $97.86, maybe it’s actually made out of the extravagant luxury Japanese beef.

For a couple of weeks there have been a variety 0f images circulating around the web of what was supposedly the design new 3G iPod Nano. Now the folks over a GearLive have gotten their hands on a couple of images which look much more detailed than the grainy ones that have been floating around (and were subsequently removed due to requests from Apple’s legal folks.)

While the latest image could be a bullshot, it certainly seems plausible given the earlier images. In all the previous photos I’ve seen, the Nano has gotten fat and squat, which is consistent with this image too. The display appears to show a the full cover flow mode that us iPhone users have already been spoiled by.

There’s no telling if this is legit or just some reasonably good Photoshop work, but one thing is for sure – on Wednesday, September 5, all will be revealed by Jobs and company.
