Synthesizer Necklace Incapable of Playing a Bad Note

Girls with style who also happen to enjoy the sound of electronic music will love this necklace, done up to look just like a tiny synthesizer. While it doesn’t actually play a tune, it still looks awesome.

The mini synthesizer necklace is made by Jen Murse of plastique. It’s laser-cut from various bits of acrylic, layered together to form the complete keyboard shape. What I really love about this thing is just how much depth it has. The keys and levers actually have real dimensionality to them, and if my fingers were small enough, I’d want to try and play with them.

For those of you interested in picking one of these up for yourself or your significant other, the necklace measures about 2.7″ wide by .75″ tall by .3″ thick, and ships on an 18″ gold plated chain. Life Bar Necklace: Don’t Let Your Enemies See It

I’ve often wondered if having a life bar in real life would be more of a blessing or a curse. On one hand we’ll know when exactly to rest and recuperate, plus we’ll know which activities and food result in the most health boost. On the other hand finding out that you’re sick or dying when you feel otherwise is a real bummer. Thankfully this necklace has none of those implications.

The pendant measures about 2.5″ across and is made from layered black acrylic. The bar and the lettering both glow in the dark. It’s that lively.

Nixie Necklace Guaranteed Not to Electrocute You (We Think)

I’ve always had a place in my heart for the delightfully retro-tastic look of Nixie and VFD tubes. Most of the time, they turn up in clocks, or maybe an old calculator or radio. But I can honestly say this is the first time I’ve seen a Nixie tube necklace.

Now think about this for a moment. A Nixie tube requires a high voltage to emit its bright orange glow, and you’ll be wearing this around your neck. As a matter of fact, the power supply will be sitting in very close proximity to your heart, so I suppose you could always use it as a portable defibrillator. I kid, of course – we’ve been told it’s perfectly safe. It’s actually powered by a small CR123 lithium battery, and a small switching power supply steps up the voltage to make its Russian IN-19V Nixie tube glow. Still, I wouldn’t try wearing this in the bathtub or a rainstorm.

The Nixie tube itself doesn’t get hot either, so you don’t have to worry about getting burnt by it, and it’s all insulated by a nice oak wood case with acrylic panes on the face, and attached to an adjustable (15″ to 30″) cord. While the photos here show the tube with a plus sign (or cross if you’re religious) on it, the switch on the side lets you choose between plus or minus signs.

NES Controller Necklace Keeps Gaming Close to Your Heart

Gamer girls who have a place in their heart for the classic Nintendo Entertainment System will want to run over to Etsy right now and grab one of these necklaces, designed to look just like the iconic 8-bit controller.

This nifty NES controller necklace is made by LicketyCut using laser cutting, engraving and painting. Each one is crafted from five pieces of acrylic, hand-assembled and then attached to a 24″ chain. I really like how the A-B buttons and D-Pad are stacked on top to give it added dimension and a tactile feel.

At just 2-1/2″ (w) x 1-1/14″ (h), it’s quite a bit smaller than a real controller, but that just means it’ll look better hanging around your neck. After all, if you wanted a full-size one you could just buy an old controller and attach a chain to it. This version looks a lot more refined in my opinion.

GoPad Tablet Cradle Lets You Wear Your iPad Around Your Neck

Wearing your tablet around your neck might seem a bit silly, but I can see it being useful in a few different situations. Perhaps if you work in the field, a warehouse or in a hospital, it would be handy to have your tablet right there in front of you. But I have to say that while it’s useful, the GoPad tablet cradle looks really geeky. Not that carrying around an iPad wherever you go isn’t already.

The GoPad was made to allow you to use your tablet like a sort of digital clipboard. The strap goes around your neck and the articulated stand allows you to place your tablet into the optimal position to get stuff done. It also works as a stand for your tablet when you’re not wearing it, and can hang it over your shoulder like a laptop bag, too.

The GoPad sells for $89(USD) from their website. It’s available in versions for the iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy, RIM PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy, Kindle Fire, and Motorola Xoom. For some reason, I can also see dads and grandpas using this and being quite happy about it.

MST3K Locket Mocks Your Precious Pictures

I sure miss Mystery Science Theater 3000. My fondest memories of the show are way back in the Joel Hodgson era, but these days, just seeing a picture of Crow, Tom Servo or Gypsy makes me giddy. Now I only wish that I could pull off this MST3K pendant to show my love for the classic sci-fi comedy show.

Just like the setup of the show – where Joel (or Mike) sat with the robots and made fun of bad “B” movies, this handmade pendant makes your favorite photo the subject of their humorous jabs.

Adafruit iNecklace: Open Source Jewelry

Check out the iNecklace, which is actually a piece of jewelry that you could replicate if you really want to, but you can also buy one if you’d rather not make one yourself. The unique part of this piece is that it pulsates, kind of like what the LEDs on a Mac do.

It’s made out of CNC-machined aluminum with an LED inside which pulsates for up to 72 hours at a time. Each of the necklaces contains a tiny circuit board to make it work. The pendant is silver. It’s the perfect geek gift for yourself or your significant other.

Since it’s open-source, you can make it yourself. Through Adafruit, you can access all of the files necessary to duplicate it. Or you could simply buy a completed iNecklace for $75(USD) from Gizmine.

Portal Test Chamber Necklaces: Wear One as a Constant Reminder to Keep Testing

Gamer girls, here’s something you might dig – assuming you’re into Portal, that is. Inspired by the test chambers in the games, this fun necklace features five of those generic-looking warning icons, lined up in a neat little row.

Each icon is laser-cut from white acrylic, with the tiny instructional images burned out of them and then layered onto a piece of black backing acrylic. Circuit Board Pendants to Wear Around Your Electro-necks

As is evidenced by a couple of our most recent posts, women and girls can be into electronics just as much as dudes. So why not wear your inner geekette around your neck with one of these cool circuit board necklaces. They’re made by the guys at Brooklyn’s Design Glut, and look just like the metal traces from a circuit board.

But instead of just cheaping out and cutting up some old circuits like we often see over on Etsy, these guys make their jewelry from mirror-polished stainless steel, then hung them each from a 16″ chain. The pendants themselves measure 2″ x 1.5″ and are available in either silver or gold finishes, but not in copper – which would be even more appropriate for a circuit board. Still, they’re quite good looking, IMHO.

If you’re looking for something a little more girly (or want you’re a guy and want to get your girlfriend something sweet and geeky), there’s always the version shaped like a little 1″x1″ heart, too.

I wonder if there’s a schematic available for the parts that could go into these things. I suppose if you really wanted to, you could solder some components in, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you won’t end up with a functional circuit. Created by Israeli artist Ran (aka milkool), these pendants offer up chunky, pixely cursors hanging from a black metal ball-chain. They’re made from 2 layers of colored acrylic, stacked together, so they have some nice dimension too. Plus, at just $14 (USD) each, they won’t cost you much.

Currently, they’re available in either an arrow pointer or pointing hand designs, both perfect for getting people to look you in the eyes.

Of course, if you’re the type of person who makes others wait around for them, maybe you could convince Ran to make you an hourglass or a beachball version instead.

Animal Crossing Jewelry, Better Late Than Never

The world is tragically short on Animal Crossing crafts. Sure, occasionally someone turns up with a KK Slider plush or a handmade knick-knack, but the adorable world of Animal Crossing should be everywhere. It should be up there with Katamari Damacy and Loco Roco–at least, visually–but for the most part, Animal Crossing is MIA from the geek craft scene… which is why we have to cherish these things when they do finally turn up.

Look at those eyes! That cheery face! You’d never know she spends half the day pulling weeds and digging holes. This girl spends her days lounging around under the trees and fishing, clearly, with a sideline in fashion design. You’ve got to be at least a little fierce to pull off those red shoes.

Brando, producer of gadgets that are mostly devoid of sense, is at it again with their latest flash drive, the “jewel bug necklace flash drive.”

Look at all the shiny plastic. Brando is kind enough to include a chain so that you can make a necklace with the bug as its pendant, although why anyone would do so is beyond me.

On second thought, it’s not half bad. But still, why a cockroach? Nevermind. If there’s one thing I can say about Brando, it’s that they’re consistent. Consistently weird. The jewel bug necklace flash drive is only available at 8 Gb capacity. It’s for sale for $33 USD at Brando’s online store.

Who says geek fashion accessories are only for guys? These necklaces are perfect for the gamer girl in your life.

Created by San Antonio’s NBsCloset, each one of these tech-inspired pendants is custom cut and etched from fiber boards using a (frickin’) laser beam.

It seems that NB has a particular affinity towards Nintendo controllers, what with mini necklace versions of the Wii-Mote, the NES Zapper light gun, and the classic (but much maligned) Power Glove controller.
