I hate wearing a necktie. I only have to wear one once every few years for some sort of special occasion like a wedding or something similar, and that is too much. I wear a tie for the absolute shortest amount of time possible. Most ties are made of silk or something similar and they are not what I consider comfortable.

I don’t even want to think of how uncomfortable a tie made out of wood would be to wear for an extended amount of time. These ties from Wood Thumb are made from reclaimed wood and are in sections so they are flexible. It reminds me of a fence picket someone cut into little sections.

The tie is held on your neck with an elastic cord. The upside to this is that if you are in the wind the weight of the wood should keep it from flapping around. And if your plane should crash in the mountains on a business trip you can always use it to start a fire to cook the asses of the people that didn’t make it.

Now it’s time to take your geek pride up a notch by getting one that lights up.

And you can get one from Enlighted Designs, a company that prides itself with producing illuminated clothing, including the all-new Circuit Board LED Tie.

The circuit board is actually just printed on the fabric but the LED lights integrated into the tie are fully functional and flash in different patterns. The addition of the LED lights will either make the tie more appealing to your geek side or make you recoil because of its hideousness. So which is it?

These ties are actually made-to-order so you can head on over to Englighted Designs to order one for $75 (USD).

Michael Phipps of Scatterbrain Ties silkscreens these convincing looking circuit ties by printing metallic copper and silver inks on a green (or black) microfiber fabric. The artist doesn’t say what the circuit board is from, but without any parts on it, I doubt it would work anyhow. Though I think it would be cool if it actually had foil conductors instead of inks and had a whole computer system built into it. I can dream, can’t I?

If you want to wire up the circuit board tie for yourself, head on over to Etsy, where you can grab one for $30 (USD). If you want to go all-out, you can grab the matching T-shirt.

I’ve made it my goal in life to never have another job where I have to wear a suit and tie to work. But if I ever find myself in that situation again, I know exactly what I’m showing up to the office wearing around my neck.

These retro video gamer ties are perfect for making a statement when you don’t want to wear the boring old blue tie that you’ve got sitting in your dresser drawer. Wild Ties makes these neckties in Tetris, Pong, Space Invaders or Asteroids versions so you’re covered whether you’re looking for something colorful, or would rather go with something more minimal and monochromatic.

All four retro game ties are available over on Amazon for $24.95 (USD) each. And if you’re looking for a more generic 8-bit tie, there’s you can always try this one on for size.

This fabulously rendered Guitar Hero cake is sure to rock out any birthday event.

There is a detailed and often hilarious tutorial on I’m Not Charming that tells you exactly how to make it, with pictures of each step of the process. Note that several of the steps include marveling at one’s own mastery, drinking wine, and taking naps.

She made the cake for her boyfriend’s birthday, and upon seeing it, he proposed. Ladies, take note. Spending 2 days making a game controller cake could pay off in unexpected ways!

It turns out a lot of people have attempted this feat with varying degrees of success, but this one takes the cake. (Ha! Takes the cake. I’m so clever.) And may I also suggest that if you’re making this cake for a special birthday, then you should definitely pick up one of these Guitar Hero neckties for the gift.

First of all, knowing that Space Invaders is 30 years old: how old does that make you feel? Me, um, I’d say I feel somewhere around super old. But let’s focus instead on everything cool that Taito is busting out in Japan for this special occasion: the Space Invaders KitKats, alarm clocks, iPhone wallpapers, neckties, and more.

But all of that pales in comparison to the special Space Invaders World War games they’ve released for play via the internet. Go you can choose from 3 different versions to play below (assuming you’ve got Javascript and Flash enabled).

Just what you’ve been waiting for- stylish black and red Space Invaders boxer shorts and neckties. Oh my!

We’ve seen Ted Baker’s more upscale Space Invaders undies before, but these boxers are a) cheaper, b) probably lower quality, and c) made to match with a necktie. I mean it actually says in the description “They are 100% cotton for maximum comfort, and coordinate with our Space Invaders silk tie.” Remind me again why you would need your underpants and your tie to match?

The silk tie will set you back $34.95 and the boxers, $21.95, from Gifts for Engineers.
