I don’t even want to think of how uncomfortable a tie made out of wood would be to wear for an extended amount of time. These ties from Wood Thumb are made from reclaimed wood and are in sections so they are flexible. It reminds me of a fence picket someone cut into little sections.

The tie is held on your neck with an elastic cord. The upside to this is that if you are in the wind the weight of the wood should keep it from flapping around. And if your plane should crash in the mountains on a business trip you can always use it to start a fire to cook the asses of the people that didn’t make it.

The circuit board is actually just printed on the fabric but the LED lights integrated into the tie are fully functional and flash in different patterns. The addition of the LED lights will either make the tie more appealing to your geek side or make you recoil because of its hideousness. So which is it?

Michael Phipps of Scatterbrain Ties silkscreens these convincing looking circuit ties by printing metallic copper and silver inks on a green (or black) microfiber fabric. The artist doesn’t say what the circuit board is from, but without any parts on it, I doubt it would work anyhow. Though I think it would be cool if it actually had foil conductors instead of inks and had a whole computer system built into it. I can dream, can’t I?

We’ve seen Ted Baker’s more upscale Space Invaders undies before, but these boxers are a) cheaper, b) probably lower quality, and c) made to match with a necktie. I mean it actually says in the description “They are 100% cotton for maximum comfort, and coordinate with our Space Invaders silk tie.” Remind me again why you would need your underpants and your tie to match?
