The Tokyoflash Kisai Night Vision was submitted as a concept about a year ago and thanks to the user votes on the Tokyoflash website, it has become reality. It’s surprisingly easy to read once you figure out how to do so.

The hexagonal shaped metal watch is littered with LEDs. A button press reveals the time. The outer ring indicates the hours, while the minutes are displayed in the center using stylized digital numbers.

The case is made from matte black stainless steel, and comes in blue, red, or green on black LED versions. It also has date and alarm functions, which is cool. As with many of the recent Tokyoflash LED watches, you’ll need to recharge it about once a month via USB.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

There are about 300 charges per battery, and the battery can be replaced. Overall, the watch is pretty interesting. It’s currently selling for $129 for the launch at the Tokyoflash website, but will revert back to $149 in 2 days.

Certainly one of the biggest stories of the year so far has been the death of Bin Laden at the hands of the U.S. military. The tech used in that raid that netted the most wanted man in the world has been the stuff of much discussion including the special stealth helicopter that was used. Another rumor is floating around that the operators that took part in the raid were using night vision equipment that wasn’t the typical goggles we see on TV.

According to the rumors, the soldiers were using night vision contact lenses. The lenses are claimed to get power by magnetic induction. The wearer would put a gel with a strong magnet on the eyelids and each time they blink the lenses would be charged. That is so awesome – assuming it’s more than a rumor.

Contacts for night vision would be very cool because the wearer would get their peripheral vision back. Peripheral vision is lost with the wearing of normal night vision goggles. This may well have no truth to it, but I could see the army fielding some straight up Pitch Black sci-fi contacts.

SA Photonics released this crazy-looking helmet, to make everyone look dorkier. It’s called the High Resolution Night Vision System (HRNVS) and improves on previous night vision technology by providing high-resolution sensors. The big thing is that the sensors are arranged over a field of view of 80 degrees, which is double what other night vision gear offers.

But is all that capability worth looking like an über-dorkster? Fighter pilots will probably love this thing, since current technology limits the field of view significantly and since they are in planes, they probably don’t care what they look like, as long as they have an edge in combat.

Maybe someday they’ll come up with a design that will integrate nicely into a functional helmet instead of something this crazy looking. Either way, looking like a fool isn’t a problem if it helps you become more efficient, and safer in war.

There are plenty of infrared lenses and night-vision cameras out there, but this cheap little digital camera is a really affordable way of getting into IR photography. Naturally, any photos you take will look a bit strange and bizarre but that doesn’t stop the Midnight Shot NV-1 Night Vision Camera from being a fun little cam.

The camera itself has a 5MP sensor and can record VGA video. That’s somewhat basic, but since it can shoot in IR, it makes up for it. It’s got an IR illuminator to light up the world in the dark. . It can also take normal shots, but who cares about that? With the IR mode on, plants will highlight like ghosts, and humans will look like aliens. While it may or may not be able to take photos as good as the one below by Bill Gracey, it’s certainly worth a shot.

The Midnight Shot sells for $129.99 (USD) over at ThinkGeek, and since the camera captures both infrared and visible wavelengths, you’ll want to add a cheap infrared filter to get the best night shots possible.

Here’s another new concept watch from those guys over at TokyoFlash. They call it Night Vision and it actually looks pretty good, thanks to the bright green lights on the face of the watch.

This is coupled with a matte body and strap. Before you ask, telling the time with many of these unconventional Japanese watches is quite the task. While I like the look, it could gets tedious trying to figure out what the time is. That said, this is one of their easier watches to figure out.

The really cool thing is that if this concept receives enough votes, it will be made. My guess is that it will also be USB rechargeable, which is a recent trend with ToykyoFlash’s LED watches. So if you like it, head on over to TokyoFlash and vote for the Night Vision.

Kawasaki’s upcoming 1400 GTR may just be the world’s most technologically advanced bike on the planet, surpassing even the Blue Hawk and the Battle Hopper. Kidding. Expected to be unveiled this coming autumn, the 1400 GTR will be equipped with 2 infrared cameras on its rearview mirrors, giving the rider night vision, which can be displayed either via an onboard LCD or via a heads-up display that will be integrated into a helmet. Now I’m no engineer or designer, but won’t the HUD be too distracting?

According to gizmag‘s Ben Purvis, the infrared cameras can detect heat signatures up to 300 meters (almost 1000 feet) away. The range of the cameras is also going to be used in the 1400GTR’s collision avoidance technology, which is basically an (ultra) early warning system that alerts drivers of possible obstacles up ahead. Purvis adds that the warning may come in the form of a Bluetooth alarm that’s also mounted on the rider’s helmet.

We don’t have pics of the HUD or the high-tech helmet, so for now we can still hope that maybe, just maybe, the headgear will look like Shaider’s. or the one from Daft Punk. No not that one. The other helmet. The cooler one.

This wristwatch conceals its dial behind a dark red filter that gives it a bold look that’s unlike any other watch I’ve seen.

The hands and numerals on designer Italo Fontana’s U-Boat Night Vision watch are actually yellow instead of white to enhance readability behind the deep red glass. The crystal itself isn’t red though. There’s actually a hardened K1 mineral glass crystal which sits beneath the red layer, and you can actually remove the colored filter by unscrewing a stainless retaining ring.

The watch features a substantial stainless steel case, and an automatic Swiss movement. All this style comes at a price, though. The Night Vision retails for $5,000 Canadian (appx. $4974 USD). You can find the Night Vision and other U-Boat watches from luxury watch seller Matt Baily.

Bushnell’s new Trail Scout Pro 5.0 night vision digital camera is designed to be mounted to a tree in the forest, and automatically snaps 5-megapixel digital photos of anything that crosses its path.

In addition to being able to shoot night vision pics, the $270 (street price) camera switches into a full color mode during daylight. You can also set it up to snap 15-second movie clips instead of high-res photos if you’re trying to capture that elusive Sasquatch in action.

The battery powered camera is supposed to work for about 30 days on a single set of batteries, since it’s not wasting any juice unless it’s triggered.

I guess this thing is designed for hunters to keep an eye on what’s roaming out in the trees at night, but the whole idea of seeing what’s going on in the darkness of the woods feels a little Blair Witch Project to me.
