LEGO DSi: DSi XXXXL

Sean Kenney has one of the best job titles in the world. Calling himself a “professional kid”, Kenney has been making artworks and models out of LEGO for several years now, and has been commissioned by several companies. Back in 2009 (we can say that now, can’t we?), Kenney was hired by Nintendo to make an oversized LEGO replica of the DSi for the launch of the gaming device. If you dropped by the Nintendo World Store in New York between April and November then you probably saw Kenney’s work:

It took Kenney more than 200 hours total to finish the sculpture, which measures 78″ x 18″ x 78″, weighs over 250 lbs. and is made up of 51,324 LEGO pieces. Here’s a short time lapse of the process:

With such a large scale, Kenney was able to incorporate many of the details of the real DSi, including the voltage spec for the charger. He wasn’t able to replicate the fine print at the back of the device though.

I wonder what that thing is that Kenney used for the camera. Is that actually a LEGO piece? Either way, it does look like a real camera and is a nice touch to the whole work. Aside from making gargantuan replicas, Kenney also makes LEGO wedding toppers and LEGO portraits, so if you ever want any of the three, you know who to turn to. The man has serious brick skills.

Nintendo Dsi Ll Officially Revealed: Bigger on the Outside, Still the Same Inside

The rumors were right – Nintendo officially unveiled the DSi LL, which is basically a Nintendo DSi but with much larger 4.2-inch screens, a 93% increase over the 3.2-inch screens on the DSi. The DSi LL also has 2 pens, a relatively jumbo sized 5-inch pen and a smaller pen that’s still slightly larger than the touch pen on the DSi. The big N says that customers have long wished for a DS with a bigger screen. Did customers also wish for a five-letter product name that is not a word and has to be said letter by letter?

The larger screen makes the portable system more suited for ”for internet and as a music player as the larger screen is able to display letters and characters in a bigger font.” I don’t have a DS so I don’t know if the browser and the speed of browsing are okay or not. Whatever the case it’ll still be the same because the DSi LL’s innards are pretty much the same as the DSi’s. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the DSi and the DSi LL, as seen on Nintendo’s website.

The Nintendo DSi LL will come in three colors: Wine Red, Natural White and Dark Brown, and will go on sale in Japan starting November 21 for ¥20,000 (appx. $220 USD). No release dates have been announced for other markets. So DS fans, are you happy with what Nintendo gave you?

Miles Edgeworth Premium Edition Nintendo Dsi is All Class

The Ace Attorney series has become a cult favorite among Nintendo DS fans, so I’m sure plenty of people are pleased to see that the most attractive special edition DSi yet is branded to match the series’ spin-off, starring prosecuting attorney Miles Edgeworth.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (known in Japan as Gyakuten Kenji) isn’t due out here until early next year, but the game was released last month in Japan with solid opening sales… and this beautiful DSi.

And now, folks, that limited edition system is available for easy import at Play-Asia, if, that is, you feel like dropping $299 on the imported system. True, with one of these babies in hand, no one will question you when you yell, “Objection!” or pepper your speech with the word “turnabout,” but that’s a steep price to pay for the envy of your friends and neighbors.
