cheap foldable noise canceling headphones [such a deal]

A few months ago my friend’s globetrotting father bought a pair Bose noise canceling headphones. The reason: he felt compelled to buy one after sharing one too many plane rides with Bose-wearing businessmen. Too bad he didn’t wait for these headphones from Ableplanet, because right now they are dirt-cheap.

How cheap? Vernons over at devicepedia…

With the recent launch of the iTunes App Store, we’re just starting to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Here’s one I’m really looking forward to playing with when it hits the App Store later this month.

screaming meanie alarm clock blows eardrums

Screaming Meanie 220 Loud Alarm Clock

I’m kind of an insomniac, so I don’t usually oversleep. But for those of you who like to hit the snooze bar 10 times before waking up, even though you’ve absolutely got to be awake on time, this super-loud alarm clock should do the trick.

The Screaming Meanie 220 portable alarm clock offers three settings:…

robot beggars – that’s all we need now.

Bettelbot by Alexander Gurko

Now I’m sympathetic to those who have fallen on hard times, many of us still find people who beg for money to be irritating. So why someone would go through the trouble of building a robot that begs for spare change is anyone’s guess.

Alexander Gurko’s “Bettelbot” (that’s “BeggingBot” in English) has just one mission…

Remote Controlled Whoopie Cushion

Have a juvenile sense of humor? Now you can get out your immature tendencies with this remote controlled version of the “classic” Whoopee Cushion.

Just place the battery-operated receiver unit under your unsuspecting coworker’s chair, head back to your cubicle and press the wireless trigger and let the mayhem ensue. There’s nothing like a good…

sounds like a car crash to me

Steering Rapper

Leave it to the wacky gadget makers of Japan to come up with this one.

The ridiculous Steering Rapper lets you tap out obnoxious beats and sound effects while you drive your vehicle. If the distraction of that isn’t enough, the whole thing is attached to your steering wheel with velcro straps to get in…

flame: the talking midi synthesizer

Flame MIDI Talking Synthesizer

Dig that retro “Speak & Spell” sound? This sound module out of Germany produces an array of interesting eighties-esque bleeps, blips and fuzz that can incorporate little bits of speech and other sound effects.
The Flame Talking Synth can also be driven by a MIDI controller so you can really compose some serious electronica using…

BenQ DVD Drive in Xbox 360

Looks like Microsoft has finally solved the issue with the awfully loud DVD drives in their Xbox 360 consoles.

According to this post over at Xbox Scene, some consoles manufactured after November 2006 appear to be getting a new BenQ DVD Drive (the VAD6038), which is supposedly much quieter than earlier drives. There’s also some…

thingamagoop: super cool portable analog synth

Thinamagoop Portable Analog Synthesizers from Bleep Labs

While researching the topic of innovative musical devices, I came across the guys at Bleep Labs and their totally wacky Thingamagoop custom synthesizer series.
These portable sythesizers generate electronica using a unique control interface: as you move a colorful LED over a photosensor, the sound’s waveform changes. Combined with a handful of more traditional dial and…
