While Nooka haven’t said that this watch was specifically made for women and/or kids, I think they’ve been able to broaden the appeal of their line with these watches. Each one is wrapped in a bold polyurethane body, with an integrated watchband and a simple “button” clasp to cut down on mechanical parts. The LCD watch face is framed under a faceted gem-cut lens and the display shows the minutes surrounded by a circle with twelve partitions, each representing an hour.

It’s definitely not as hard to decipher as some of the other digital watches out there, so it should be no problem telling the time at a glance. Now saying its name… that’s another story altogether.

The top two rows display the hours, while the third one is reserved for minutes. The fourth one shows the seconds. The unique thing about this watch is that it’s got a refracted surface on its crystal, which distorts the view of the face. The faceted patterns is continued throughout the band of the watch, which is available in either titanium or blue.

The strap is fashioned out of silicone, and the watch is all angles and squares. Both colors are available on pre-sale for $375 (USD), and ships starting on October 24th.

The Zub Zoo 40 allows you to simply slide off the bands to swap them out. It’s available in 4 colors, black, red, white, and a charcoal/green combination. There are a total of 40 different bands, allowing you to mix and match the colors you prefer.

The watch has a big display to show off the hours, and a horizontal bar that looks like a power meter to tell the minutes. It also has a chronometer and alarm functions, as well as an EL backlight. The Zub Zoo 40 costs $100 (USD) over at the Nooka online store.

This new watch features the largest LCD display in Nooka’s Zub collection. Even if this watch is from New York, that doesn’t mean it can’t have a Japanese name. The name is taken from the Japanese word sayu, which means left and right. The overall watch body is asymmetrical, which is always a nice break from the norm.

The Zub Zayu comes with a sleeper mode to conserve battery and will cost $175 (USD) at Nooka’s online shop. It’s available in gray, black, yellow, pink, and blue. Personally, my favorite LCD watches are the old Seiko Spoon watches.

The ZAZ tells time using a minimal liquid-crystal display that that indicates the hours, minutes and seconds using stacks of dots and dashes. Unlike most LCD watches, the ZAZ features an unusual transparent screen that lets you see through to your wrist below. And unlike some other unconventional watch displays out there, this one is actually pretty easy to tell the time with.

The stainless-steel watch comes is positioned asymmetrically on its band, lending to its distinct looks. Each one is water-resistant to 3ATM, and is available with either a black or white leather band, or one with mesh silver styling. The Nooka ZAZ will ship later this Fall, and is available for pre-order over at Watchismo for $380 (USD).

While the watches in this set all function in the same way, Nooka offers several choices for style and color- camo, rubber, leather, or metal. The camo is an animal design which to me look like a pile of writhing rats and pigeons, so I much prefer the plain ones.

Nooka watches are designed by Matthew Waldman and the designs are patented. The rubberized ones are $130 – $140 and come in pink, blue, orange, and lime. The camo seroes comes in army green, greyscale, or rainbow and will set you back $250. Leather or metal goes for $265. You can buy them at Nooka.

While the display might be a bit unconventional, it’s actually pretty easy to read. Hours are indicated by a circular series of dots, while minutes increment along a horizontal bar graph at the bottom of the watch.

The Nooka Zirc series of LCD watches comes in dramatic black, white and silver mirrored finishes, and they retail for $350 each.
