NVIDIA just announced the launch of these new wired 3D Vision glasses, which are supposed to be more cost effective than their 3D Vision active shutter glasses. These 3D glasses connect to your PC via USB, getting power and data over the cable rather than infrared signals.

The retail price for these glasses is $99 and since they are wired, they don’t need a battery. The wire hangs down on the left size and the glasses come with a 10-foot USB cord, to ensure that it reaches your desktop. Active-shutter 3D glasses are still quite expensive, which is why NVIDIA released this wired version to keep costs down.

These glasses are lighter and cheaper than usual 3D glasses. Cheaper is a strong word, as you can find the NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses for around $94 on the web, so it’s fair to say that the wired version will have to be significantly cheaper to be worth the while. They will be available in late June. Honestly, I don’t think the 3D fad will continue for long. In fact, news outlets are already reporting that the 3D market is fizzling out.

The Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone was unveiled a while back, and the thing looks really nice and has solid specifications. Apparently, some of the smartphones will be packing NVIDIA Tegra 2 under the hood and others won’t. How can you tell which has Tegra 2 inside before you buy one? You can’t.

That’s right, Samsung has opted to use the awesomely fast Tegra 2 SoC inside some of the phones and not others, and they are not telling which devices have what SoC inside. The devices that don’t use Tegra 2 will pack in Samsung’s own Exynos SoC.

Apparently, Samsung can’t make enough of its own product, hence the need for some NVIDIA help. The rub for geeks is that we know the Tegra 2 SoC rocks, but the Exynos is a lesser known, so I personally would rather have the Tegra 2 version.

Yes, I’ll admit it, this computer is pretty small, but it packs a lot of punch. Unless you’ve got a Tegra 2-powered system, it’s probably more powerful than your precious netbook thanks to a dual core processor and a few other hardware perks.

The TrimSlice has got a NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-Core GPU, 1GB of RAM, up to 64 GB of SSD storage, four USB ports, as well as a serial port, full-size SD slot and a micro SD slot. It comes with WiFi and is encased in metal. It doesn’t need a fan and uses only 3W of power.

So what will it be used for? Powering the guts of HTPCs, gaming consoles, and other things. It’s going to be available this April and should cost less than a tablet.

Today is one of the days that PC gamers really look forward to – the launch of a new video card. NVIDIA has lifted the veil of secrecy, and tossed the new GTX 560 Ti video card into the light. It’s been nice of late that the video cards NVIDIA has been offering are moderately priced.

The new GTX 560 Ti is a video card that has a MSRP of only $250 (USD). You may find some of the overclocked offerings that are more expensive than that though. The card is 33% faster than the previous generation cards according to NVIDIA. It also has overclocking headroom and claims to be 65% faster in tessellated video games on DirectX 11. It also supports NVIDIA 3D Vision and Surround technologies so you can watch 3D content or games spanning multiple displays.

The video card has 384 CUDA cores, 8 tessellation engines, and a core clock of 822MHz. The card is available right now and you can find it from many different card partners. The new card also supports SLI if you want a pair of them for better gaming performance.

I can understand why people don’t want wires with the stuff that goes to the computer. I have wired stuff because I hate lag and laggy keyboards and mice don’t work well for gaming and other things. If all you do is type on your computer, a wireless mouse and keyboard will work fine and wireless gear is what most people want.

One thing that you rarely see on a computer is a video card that is natively wireless. You can get some adapters that sit between the video card and the display to make things wireless, but a new video card from KFA2 has surfaced that skips the need for any adapters and is wireless by design. The card is called the KFA2 GTX 460 WHDI and has five antennas sticking out of the back.

Those antennas shoot the video over to your TV or monitor wirelessly to an included WHDI receiver. Other than the five antennas sticking out of the back, the video card is your average GTX 460 with the same features. It has 336 cores, a 675MHz graphics clock, a 1350Mhz processor clock, and 1800MHz memory clock. It has 1024MB of RAM and a 256-bit memory interface.

[KFA2 via Kotaku]

I always get a kick out of companies that realize they can’t defend themselves in court and end up settling without admitting guilt. If they weren’t guilty, I hardly think most companies would offer to pay out. NVIDIA has been fighting a class action over allegedly defective MCPs and GPUs in notebook computers for years now.

The issues happened in 2008 and 2009 with notebooks from Dell, HP, and Apple having various issues that were to do with faulty NVIDIA hardware inside. NVIDIA has been fighting to prove its hardware was not at fault and has finally thrown in the towel.

NVIDIA has now agreed to a settlement, yet still admits no wrong in the case. The settlement will see HP notebook owners with affected machines getting replacement notebooks. Apple and Dell owners will get new GPUs. Owners of machines from any company that paid to have the machine fixed may get as much as $2,000.

I like the idea of 3D in my home and on my computer, but I refuse to pay a premium for the feature, and then have to wear those stupid glasses. We all know that the tech needed for 3D with no glasses is in development, and for the most part the manufacturers are using the early systems’ need for active glasses as a way to make more money. You would think that the hoards of people not adopting 3D tech would be a hint to these makers that no matter how many products you flood the market with, the fundamental flaw with 3D today remains.

Toshiba doesn’t let that fact stop it from making all sorts of 3D products like the Satellite A665-3D laptop that is set to launch next month. The notebook has a 3D screen that is 15.6-inches wide and has HDMI 1.4 output to send that 3D to your TV. The notebook uses NVIDIA 3D Vision technology and only comes with a single pair of glasses, so you’ll have to pony up extra dough if you want anyone else to see the 3D.

The machine has CPU options that include a Core i5-460M and a Core i7-740QM. The machine upscales 2D movies to 3D as well. The GPU inside is a GeForce GTS 350M and the machine has Blu-ray, Wi-Fi, up to 6GB of RAM, and 640GB of storage. The standard battery is a 6-cell unit and a 12-cell battery is optional. The machine will start at $1299.99(USD) when it hits stores.

The new version of the software is designed to exercise the latest in DirectX 11 gaming technology featuring such challenges as volumetric lighting, tessellation, depth of field and lens effects in real time. From the looks of the “deep sea” demo reel below, you’ll definitely want to upgrade your video card before giving this bad boy a whirl.

As news of the 3D version of the Batman: Arkham Asylum hit, Kotakuite deanbmmv pointed out that people who bought the PC version of the game don’t need to re-buy it because there’s already a way to play it – and other PC games – in 3D for free… as long as you have an NVIDIA graphics card.

The NVIDIA driver will use anaglyph images – red and cyan, as shown above – to produce the 3D effect, and of course you’ll need to wear glasses with red and cyan filters to see the effect. If you’re not okay with that, then skip the rest of the article. If you’re fine with that, the first thing that you should do is to make sure that you have the latest NVIDIA drivers.

You can go to NVIDIA’s website to download the drivers. Once you’ve done that, restart your computer, then navigate to “Start>All Programs>NVIDIA Corporation>3D Vision and click on “Enable 3D Vision Discover.” All that’s left to do is to test it on your games; deanbmmv says that if your game uses DirectX, then it can probably be played in 3D. Check out his post on Press X or Die for more details.

How’d you like to own the fastest and coolest looking PC on your block, and at the same time help find a cure for cancer – and then write the whole thing off your tax bill?
The gorgeous, glowing computer is really the ultimate gaming PC. For starters, it looks amazing. But under the hood, it’s a serious workhorse of a machine, that’ll surely pwn any computer you currently own.

At the core of the system is an Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition CPU, and a pair of nVidia GeForce GTX 295 graphics cards running in SLI mode. The system has 12 GB of DDR3 RAM, and 2.5 TB of hard disk. There’s also a Logitech G19 gaming keyboard, a custom Razer Boomslang mouse, and 13 video games thrown in for good measure. In total, there’s over $10,000 worth of components in this bad boy.

Parts and labor for this amazing system were donated by nVidia, ASUS, Crucial, Danger Den, Intel, Performance PCs, SilverStone, Smooth Creations, TigerDirect, Western Digital and the whole thing was put together by Out of The Box Mods.

Currently, the system is up for sale on eBay, with a bid price of $4,000 – but I’m certain that will climb as the auction nears its end on 11/24. For more details head on over to the Charity Case Mod website. 100% of the auction proceeds (after auction fees) will go directly to the charity – so bid early and bid often.

Looking like a robotic piece of art, BIll Owens’ award-winning NVIDIA ION Cube PC case mod is based on NVIDIA’s ION ITX motherboard. The aluminum case is decorated with UV green acrylic sheets, lit up with 4 cathode lights, and then placed on pedestal, allowing it to rotate a full 360°.

Aside from the ION 330 ITX, the PC is equipped with an x64 SSD by Corsair, 4GB Twin2X4096-6400C5 DDR by Corsair, a 90-Watt Pico power supply unit by Logic Supply, Windows Vista Premium, and an LG GH22 DVD Writer drive. Here’s a more thorough look at the little green thing:

The design is too loud – and too green – for my taste, but the fact that it rotates makes it one of the best mods that I’ve seen. Check out the Casemod Blog for more pics and info.

ECS surprised a lot of folks at the recently started Computex exhibition in Taipei by presenting a vase. Not an antique vase, but a PC vase, complete with optical drive. It’s sleek and funny and your mom’s gonna love it.

Don’t squint at the image, I’ll tell you what’s written on the card: the PC-in-a-vase runs on an Intel Atom 230 CPU, a Nvidia ION GPU and 1 GB of DDR3 RAM. The vase even has what netbooks don’t have: an optical drive, and it’s Blu-ray at that.

The refreshingly designed PC uses 2.5″ HDDs for storage. A power jack, 2 USB ports, an Ethernet port and an HDMI port can be found at the bottom of the vase, which justifies the raised wooden base. See? form and function.

The on/off switch as well as what looks like a vent can be found at the mouth of the vase.

Even though the PC-in-a-vase is just a concept, it’s proof of how far computer technology has come. And also how Brando-like ECS is. But seriously, ECS just made envisioning a future where computers are embedded into pretty much anything so much easier. I want a PC-in-a-wall.

If I saw this brightly glowing motorcycle coming down the street, I’d definitely have to stop and stare.

Alas, it’ll never get out of the starting gate. This heavily modded, liquid-cooled PC is strictly for use while parked (unless you want to strap a monitor to your lap while riding, and connect a really long extension cord). While it may not have serious racing horsepower, I’m sure it’s got plenty of processing speed.

Perhaps inspired by last year’s SLI-Machine wheel PC, The computer cycle was built by Russian casemodder Dennis Ilyin (a.k.a. “Xooler”) in a recent NVIDIA-sponsored case building contest. If you can believe it, Dennis only won the second place prize. I personally think he was robbed, but you be the judge.

An intense green neon backlighting system gives the computer a bright glow as soon as the lights go out.

The system was sponsored by nVidia to show off their SLI video performance platform. Now all they have to do is make a networked set of four of these and bolt them on to my car. Then I’ll really be driving in style.

While it’s way to early in the game to call the Sony Playstation 3 down and out, there continues to be compelling evidence that the system does not have the graphical prowess of the more mature Xbox 360.

Gamespot recently conducted a side-by-side comparison of the graphics in several launch titles running on both the 360 and PS3. At best the PS3′s visuals were comparable to the 360, at worst, the PS3 was trounced in both texture detail and frame rate. Included in the evaluation was EA’s Fight Night Round 3, which EA was saying would have much improved visuals when compared to the Xbox 360 (including an “amazing sweat modeling engine”). Not only are the backgrounds and crowds arguably less detailed, the HDR lighting is far less realistic, and the game takes much longer to load. Now before you start flaming me with “but the game is a port” messages, the fact that they share the same library of models and textures should mean that the games would be nearly identical if the NVIDIA chip in the PS3 was as capable as the ATI chip in the Xbox 360.

That said, some future games such as Motorstorm do show promise in the graphics department. As is the case in every generation, it takes a while for developers to learn all of the intricacies and tricks of a new console. There’s no doubt that we’ll see better graphics on the PS3 in the future, but it’s unlikely that they’ll ever achieve the cinematic quality boasted by Sony’s hype machine.
