Here are a child’s best friends: cookies and ice cream. Now here are a not-so-completely-grown-up grown up’s best friends: pixel oven mitts and pixelized cookies.

Sometimes, we need a push to get moving. Baking used to be so fun for me before, but the older I grow (even if I’m just a ripe young twenty-two going on twenty-three in a few days), the more it becomes a chore, like a lot of other things that I used to enjoy and that are supposed to be enjoyable.

But there are some things that we can pick up along the way to spice things up and make everyday chores seem more fun again. Like the Pixel Oven Mitts.

I swear, even just looking at them makes me want to go bake or roast something in my oven just so I would be able to use them. And what could be better than baking cookies with these mitts? Why, if I happened to be baking pixelized cookies too, that’s what. I even found an album on Flickr that aims to teach people exactly how to do that. (And it actually looks more complicated than it sounds or seems.)

Boy, this must be a record – two posts about oven mitts on Technabob in a single day. I know that it seems weird for a techy geek blog, but this one was just too good to pass up.

The guys at Meninos have created the Salute Oven Mitt, which, as you can see is perfect for Trekkies everywhere. Spock would be so proud to see you wearing these the next time you synthesize a batch of cookies in your replicator. Though I’m not sure having your fingers splayed out like that while you’re pulling a pan out of the oven. Shark Bite Oven Mitt is Way Cooler Than My Crab Claw Mitt

I don’t know if you have noticed, but I get up to a lot of mischief at my house. My kids sort of expect it now. We have this oven mitt that looks like a crab claw. As soon as I put it on my daughter screams like the little girls she is and starts running. She knows that crabby claw is going to get her. I thought my trusty crab claw oven mitt was really cool, but now I feel all bad about it after seeing this Shark Bite Mitt.

I mean, having a baby shark swallow your hand is much better than having a crab claw for a hand. The shark is made out of polyester/neoprene/nylon blend material, which presumably will keep your fingers from being burnt off on the cookie pan.

It measures in at 15.75″ x 9.25″ and it looks like the shark is eating your arm. It would have been cool if your hand went up the shark’s rump too so I could chase the kids with chompy the shark rather than crabby claws. I guess I am going to have to drop the $18 the thing costs overt at FredFlare.

I don’t usually associate computers with cooking, but that doesn’t mean that your geek style shouldn’t find its way into your kitchen.

Brazilian designer Anderson Horta’s Clicking Kitchen Grip oven mitts are inspired by the little pixels of the hand cursor from your computer.

It’s too bad that there’s no way to make version that turns into an hourglass or a spinny beachball while your food is cooking, into an arrow when you can’t pick something up, and a closed hand when you grab your pots and pans. Damned non-virtual world!

Still, they’re pretty cool, IMHO. You can get your grubby little mitts on these anything-but-grubby, not-little mitts from Bazar Design for $24,80 Brazilian Real (appx. $11 USD). You can contact them directly for information on international delivery.
