I like how the images make you try and figure out what exactly you’re looking at for a fraction of a second before you get it. You’ll find Cubist scout troopers, droids, and Princess Leia and Darth Vader getting their dance on in in Tommervik’s Star Wars series.

You get a blue bomb if you know what game the painting above is referencing. Here are some more of Campbell’s paintings. Can you name all of the games that each painting is based on? Actually most of them are quite obvious. Dammit.

I really like Campbell’s style. It’s humorous, colorful and nostalgic. You can browse more paintings or buy them for $50 (USD) each on Etsy. You can also commission Campbell to make a different painting for the same game or a new painting for another game, but I’m guessing he won’t duplicate a previous piece. Here’s more of Brockert’s work. You’ll notice that they’re mostly either Atari games or Star Wars toys. If I had the skills, my series would be filled with paintings of the Famicom, Double Dribble, Contra and Leader-1, although I’ll also have old-fashioned toys like marbles and swords made of fallen branches.

Brockert’s American Icon paintings sell for $200-$500 (USD). You can check them all on his website; when you’ve picked out a piece, just send him an email to buy it (click on the purchase tab on his website for his email). Unfortunately for Atari fans, someone already bought the joystick painting, but there are still a couple of paintings of Atari cartridges available.

Actually, I’m not sure what the motivation was behind the Katamari Cousins Project, but in my imagination, it’s frustration–but the good kind. The kind that results in forty paintings, one cousin per painting. And, of course, a classic central scene to anchor the project. No cows, though.

Of course, I can’t help but wonder what the forty-one paintings might look like if they were rolled into a giant canvas Katamari….
