No, it’s not Christian Bale rapping, thank god. It’s the work of the satirical and parodistic folks at the Key of Awesome, and they do have valid questions. Plus the characters’ voices were spot on.

We’ve yet to see a gadget really compete against the iPhone, to the extent that subscribers in the U.S. are willing to endure the sometimes horrible service of AT&T so that they can keep using Apple’s revolutionary product. If you were a designer or engineer and you were asked to make an iPhone-killer, what features would you include? Would you add a 48 megapixel camera? The ability to print pictures? What about cassette tape, VHS, and even floppy disk reading? What the hell am I talking about?

I’m talking about the xphone. And yes, that’s a VHS tape going inside it. Watch as this German-made spoof pokes fun at consumers’ demands for a do-it-all device and technology’s ever-increasing capacity to pack a ton of features into one gadget.

Microsoft’s weird-ass marketing campaign telling people to hold Windows 7 parties was asking for a parody, and the folks at Funny or Die are happy to oblige.

Here’s a party that millions of pirates will surely be having: a Windows 7 torrenting party! As if giving out tips on how to download illegal stuff wasn’t enough, there’s some (unnecessary) f-bombs at the end of the clip, so watch out mom & dad.

Seriously though, have you or anyone you know actually set up a Windows 7 party? Was the food any good?

Odds are, if you’ve heard of You Have to Burn the Rope, you’ve played it. You’ve talked about it. You may have posted some screencaps somewhere. But if you truly love the game, enough to carry it with you at all times, you can now put it on your Nintendo DS.

Not familiar with this little gem? Even if you don’t have a Nintendo DS, or don’t want to bother with the homebrew edition, you owe it to yourself to check out the Flash version. Just remember that titles are important.

It’s worth it, if only for the song at the closing credits (Portal fans: go forth and play, especially). You could find the song in YouTube, of course, but that would be cheating.

Now go burn the rope. If you’re having trouble, do try the DS version. It’s even got a map!

smell of books aerosol e-book enhancer violates “olfactory rights” of writers

Vaporware manufacturer DuroSports Electronics wants to ease the transition from paper books to e-books with their Smell of Books scented sprays, specifically designed for e-book readers. Not. This is the kind of idea that’s so stupid it’s awesome, and for a while you’ll wish it was true. Then it’ll just be plain stupid. Right now though, the Smell of Books is a hoot:

I lol’d at Eau, You Have Cats. DuroSports went the extra mile and even concocted a scandal with the Author’s Guild, obviously a parody of the Kindle text-to-speech snafu. The Guild’s “statement” claimed that the Smell of Books was violating the “olfactory rights” of authors, so DuroSports had no choice but to pull out their aerosols for now.

microblogging on twitter is so passé: slate v’s flutter offers nanoblogging

A long long time ago, way back in 2006, Twitter burst onto the blogging scene and introduced microblogging, forcing people to post messages that can’t be longer than 140 characters. But the people behind Twitter grossly overestimated our reading capacity, and now a new trend, nanoblogging, is going to cash in on that. Or so the joke goes in Slate V’s mockumentary, where they cover a new service called Flutter that has a maximum limit of only 26 characters.

A mode of communication that encourages people to place emphasis on highly readable form rather than worthwhile content, Twitter has flocks of fans and nearly as many enemies. Of course in the end it’s the people who continuously write – and read – pointless tweets that are to blame for the bad rep that the service has earned, but since we can always use a good laugh, go ahead and watch Slate V’s vid:

I didn’t realize people hated language this much. What next? Hand signs? – dammit. That won’t fit in a flap.

With games like Cooking Mama and peripherals like the Wii Fit, Nintendo is raking in bajillions of money by making video games out of everyday tasks. This though, would definitely fall under the “you are flippin’ overdoing it” category. Comedybox Sketch proudly presents: Wii Breakfast.

Yup, that there’s an egg controller. It’s like Rock Band for housewives.

If Wii Breakfast was real it would probably cost a PS3 and a half, what with all those controllers. But you know what? I have this sneaky feeling that it’s going to be a hit. The end is near, I tell you.

squash pork in super obama world

This may not be the first time we’ve seen a mix of Mario and President Obama, but it’s certainly the most interactive. Parody flash game Super Obama World replaces some classic images from Super Mario World with a grinning image of the president himself, and some of the familiar enemies and objects have been politicized.

Perhaps the funniest changes are to the world map, where familiar locales like Yoshi’s House have now become I Can See Russia From My House. It’s a longer name, sure, but sometimes, you’ve just gotta go for it.

Creators ZenSoft also have a Tetris-style game available on their site. Don’t worry–it’s just blocks falling, with no political themes.

Do you suck at Guitar Hero? Got 5 minutes to spare? Time to redeem yourself then. Sort of. Are you a Guitar Hero god? Got 5 minutes to spare? Time to return to the real world. Let’s play Champions of Guitars, a game that was based solely on this picture.

Yes 1975, it’s your old friend, text adventure! Bill Meltsner ripped off all the fancy, useless graphics that kids nowadays just can’t live without and revealed that *gasp* Guitar Hero is as repetitive as your 9 to 5 job.

Okay so there are no songs. And even if you had the reflexes of a dying turtle you’d still ace the game, as long as you typed the right response. Thankfully it’s a short game. The game’s response when you beat the game is one of the funniest, but also one of the most depressing things I have ever read. I’m glad I’m not good at Guitar Hero.

Go ahead, print that last screenshot. Whip it out the next time your friend showers your face with his saliva while bragging about how he’s beaten Through the Fire and Flames 1 billion times on Sadomasochistic Mode.
