You know, there are some really great swear words out there, and if you’re not living with someone who’s easily offended, they can be nice to try out. There’s probably a swear for every occasion, and while some might think swearing a bit crass, others will find it hilarious.

The Periodic Table of Swearing was created by Clay Interactive for Modern Toss, and it’s a soundboard loaded up with a ton of swears for your ears to enjoy. It has over 100 buttons, and the table was CNC’ed and laser cut out of MDF. Inside there’s over 100m (330 feet) of cabling and has over 300 solder points to make it work its verbal magic.

The video below includes a lot of swearing, so it might be NSFW, depending on whether you work in a school or a truck stop. That being said, if you’re at work, you shouldn’t be reading this anyway, right? Still, we promise not to tell your boss.

Seems like a lot of the swears are quite British, so they don’t make sense worldwide. On the other hand, that makes them just that much more amusing. “Arseholes for Goalposts?!?!”

We’ve featured a couple of geeky takes on the periodic table of elements, and I’m sure there are more lurking around on the Internet. But this version is a bit more special than the other ones I’ve seen, and not just because it features my favorite Sci-Fi staple – robots! – but also because the unknown hero who made this tried his best to find robots with names that also fit the acronyms of the actual elements.

As you can see the mecha-Mendeleev who put this together used characters from several media – cartoons, movies, anime and of course video games. Unfortunately the task involved putting in other characters that are not technically robots, hence the disclaimer title. It also meant skipping out on other famous robots. For example, Proto Man and Cutman are here, but not Rock Man/Mega Man. Also absent are Voltes V and Voltron, but that octopus attendant bot from Combattler V gets a slot.

Those oversights are by no means insignificant, but it’s still awesome seeing all these characters in one place. If you guys know who made this table please tell us in the comments. Meanwhile fellow robot fans looking to burn some time can view the full-sized table here and try and name all of the characters used.

By taking a single strand of Poliakoff’s hair (and a mighty head of hair he has) and subjecting it to a nano-etching technology, they managed to etch the entire periodic table onto a single strand of the hair. The entire thing is just 100 microns wide and 50 microns high. By irradiating the hair with ions of Gallium, tiny bits of the hair are flaked off, producing the microscopic table of elements.

Check out the new Periodic Table of Sci-Fi Film and Television and let me know if you can find all of your favorite shows and movies. And if you can’t, feel free to complain in the comments below.

Overall, I think you’ll find the table more inclusive of your faves than not. Illustrator Kris Straub of Starslip and Chainsawsuit designed this graphic which offers elements for everything from Spc(1999) to DS9 on the table. I’m just stoked that they included Chln(of Men) on the Metallcrichtonide chart, and TW(elve Monkeys) in the Cameronkubriclarkine groups. And it’s only fitting that Lgn(Logan’s Run) and Du(ne) are on the “inert” section.

You can see a bigger image of the entire table here, and can buy posters of the table over at TopatoCo in either 14.5″ x 18″ ($18 USD) or oversize 22″ x 27.5″ ($28) versions to hang on your wall. Right alongside your Alessandra Torresani pin-up poster.

Created by flickr member Pixel Fantasy, this work-in-progress table offers layout diagrams for many classic joysticks, paddles, and other console input devices. As an added bonus, the chart includes many handheld gaming systems, as well as the names of the systems’ creators and their CPU information in many cases.
