If you’re always on the go, and are looking for quality headphones that aren’t über-flashy or crazy-expensive, then check out these two new models from Pioneer. One of them is targeted at audiophiles, while the other model adds noise cancellation for the masses. The SE-MJ591 and SE-NC21M are lightweight, foldable, and come with a carrying case.

The SE-MJ591 feature 40mm drivers and is the more expensive of the two. They have soft ear pads, and a comfortable headband. They are supposed to match up well with high-end audio sound systems. They will be available at the end of April and sell for $299 (USD).

The SE-NC21M offer affordable noise cancellation, with a single AAA battery. They will reduce external noises by up to 90% and work 120 hours on one battery. The good thing is that they will continue to work as normal headphones once the battery runs out. They will sell for $119.

Pioneer already has a bunch of DJ gear that is aimed at professional music-makers. The company has now announced some new gear that is aimed at the people dancing to music too.

Pioneer Electronics has been in the business of making audio gear for decades now. When I was a kid my dad had a Pioneer stereo in the house. These days Pioneer makes all sorts of car audio gear like the cool AppRadio we saw a while back, and also makes all sort of DJ gear for the pro and amateur DJ. Pioneer has teamed up with some urban artists for the Pioneer DJ Art Mix Tour.

The tour has urban artists using the Pioneer CDJ-2000 Digital Music Player as their personal canvases. Most of the art is nothing to write home about, even though it is cool. However, one particular work really got me excited. It’s a LEGO clad CDJ-2000 digital music player and it is awesome. The LEGO version was made by Jesse Dean Designs.

Here’s some video of the finished product (looking a little pinker than in the photos above), and yes, it’s still fully functional:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

There are a lot more works from the DJ Art Mix exhibit too that you can check out at the source. Which one of the music players is your favorite?

I have been parked in my car on many occasions looking down at the small screen of my iPhone watching Netflix or Hulu. I generally always wish I had a larger screen to watch on. Back in April, I talked a bit about a new radio from Pioneer for your car that has a larger screen for viewing your iPhone apps called AppRadio.

Engadget has gone hands on with that AppRadio and it looks even cooler now than it did before. The AppRadio mirrors your iPhone interface on the radio’s larger touchscreen. I see a few downsides to this though. Apparently, all of the controls are touchscreen. I hate touch controls on things that you will likely be using without taking your eyes off the road.

You will have to look away from the road to change channels and to interact with things on the screen. Another downside is that there are only a few apps that will run on the device right now it seems. You can get Rdio, Pandora, INRIX, and MotionX-GPS Drive. Here I thought it would just show you any app you wanted on the larger screen. The AppRadio screen does support gestures like pinch to zoom. See more of the hands-on in the video clip below:

I use my iPhone all the time in the car, particularly while I sit outside waiting for my kids to come out of school. I have on more than one occasion thought that I need some sort of radio or screen in my car that will let me shoot that video content from Hulu Plus or the web over to a larger screen. Pioneer has a new radio that has just hit the FCC that looks like it has some of the tightest iPhone integration we have seen for a car stereo.

This SPH-DA01 AppRadio has a large touchscreen on the front and what looks like iOS icons on it. I really hope the screen is touch sensitive too and when you press those icons it launches the content you want on the larger screen of the radio. It would rock to be able to shoot video out to that screen and to surf the web on it too. I would like to use the GPS navigation and mapping apps I have on the AppRadio too.

The AppRadio from Pioneer surfaced on CrunchGear this morning and someone that is familiar with the project claims that the radio feels “exactly like the iOS experience.” That means either one of two things Pioneer is courting a lawsuit or they have Apple’s permission to integrate iOS so tightly with the device. Either way if the double-din radio doesn’t cost a fortune when it finally hits stores, I am interested.

TWICE reports that Pioneer is now licensing the Elite brand to Sharp to bring new flat-screen TVs to the market in the US and Canada to complement the line of other Elite offerings directly from Pioneer. The TVs will be marketed by Sharp and Pioneer together.

Sharp is also an equity investor in Pioneer Electronics. There is no word on when exactly we will see the sets land or how much they will cost. The Elite line is not cheap so expect the Elite TVs to be priced accordingly.

If you still have a landline – and you happen to live in Japan, then you might like these new minimal and retro-modern looking cordless phones from Pioneer. There’s no word yet on pricing, and that doesn’t matter anyway, because you probably don’t have a landline anymore, and you almost certainly don’t live in Japan.

The latest surround sound system from Pioneer gets rid of the typical “receiver/amp” module that most home theater systems require. From what I can tell, they’ve hidden all the amplification and hookups inside of the subwoofer.

The Pioneer HTP-LX70 system features a standalone control “pod” which has a bright backlit display that shows the current input and other settings. It’s got full support for the latest surround technologies, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD master audio as well. It’s also got a special 3D spatialization technology which is said to provide some serious soundfield expansion.

The system has 400W of total power, driving the left, right and surround satellites at 50W each, but adding dual drivers to the center and subwoofer channels, so they each get 100W of amplification. Pioneer also opted to split the center channel in half, so you don’t have to try to fit the speaker under or over your television. I’m not sure what this means for center channel imaging, but I think that’s part of what they’re trying to accomplish with the 3D sound feature.

I like that this system offers three HDMI 1.3a ports, making it easy to hook up and switch multiple high-definition sources. The HTP-LX70 is definitely at the “high-end” of the Pioneer price range though, within a retail price of ¥261,000 (about $2200 USD.)

Pioneer Japan is showing off this new music system that can send audio signals to remote speakers around your house. Rather than using more modern wireless technologies like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, Pioneer opted to use power line signal transmission, to reduce the likelihood of over-the-air interference, and to simplify configuration.

The Pioneer Music Tap system starts with a central base station that can accept inputs from analog audio devices, or a USB-connected PC or hard drive containing WMA, MP3 or AAC format audio files. Remote speakers can be placed around the house, and feature a slick motion sensing capability that can automatically turn on the sound when you enter a room. The system also offers the ability to play back audio from two different sources at the same time, and pipe them to different rooms.

The base system (model XW-PSS01), includes a pair of speakers and will set you back around $600 USD when it starts shipping this Spring. Additional speakers come in two sizes, costing appx. $170 and $230 USD respectively. An optional iPod dock add-on is also available for about $120 USD (yikes!)
