PlayStation Credit Card Awards 10x Points for PSN Purchases, No Word on Trophy Support

If you’re a frequent customer of Sony, especially the PlayStation Network, here’s a piece of plastic that will help your purchasing habits work in your favor. The electronics giant teamed up with Capital One to release an updated PlayStation credit card. Like other credit cards, you’ll earn points for every purchase, but if you use the card to buy from the PSN, you’ll earn 10 times more points, which you can redeem for Sony gadgets, PS games and accessories.

Owners of the now older version of the PlayStation credit card shouldn’t panic, as the new scheme is backwards-compatible – your accounts should automatically be upgraded to this new one. You can find out more info and apply for the card here. And someone tell Mr. Lee M. Cardholder that his account is not secure.

I wonder what will happen if you use it to buy an Xbox 360 game.

Sony PSN to Shutdown for Six Hours at Night in South Korea, for the Kids

Sony Computer Entertainment Korea has announced that they will be taking PSN offline for underage players in South Korea. This is due to a Shutdown Law in South Korea that prevents underage players from gaming for a six hour period at night. It’s news like this that makes me happy that I live in America, despite the fact that authorities occasionally like to beat those who exercise their First Amendment rights. Hey, at least we have PSN at night. Win?

This South Korean law was originally meant for online PC games, but it includes consoles as well. Who knows, maybe board games will be next. These poor kids might actually have to sleep. The idea is that it will help kids avoid getting addicted to gaming. From midnight until 6 in the morning there will be no gaming.

Sony and Microsoft have both said that it will be difficult to put the system in place in a short period of time, but as of the 18th of November, we know that Sony will be blocking access to PSN for those under 16, and will not allow new accounts to be made for underaged players.

Microsoft is a different story. They don’t collect age data for all of their players, so will have a hard time sorting out the underaged from the rest of their players. Microsoft may just completely shut down Xbox Live in South Korea during the shutdown time frame, in order to comply.

Earthworm Jim HD Brings Groovy Back to Xbox 360 and PS3

One of the wackiest platformers ever made, Earthworm Jim is back, and after gracing Wii gamers with his presence, he’s coming to both the Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network with and updated version.

As I’m sure some of you will remember, Earthworm Jim first came out in 1994. This remake not only upgrades the game’s cartoony graphics, it also has additional levels, and even four-player coop action.

Sony’S Psn Reality Tv Show the Tester Starts Testing February 18

I really think Sony’s new reality show The Tester is going to bomb. But seeing as it’s already in the can, it’s free to watch and most importantly it’s optional, there’s no point in whining about it anymore.

So yeah, The Tester starts showing on February 18, exclusively on the Playstation Home Theatre. The 8 episode-long series boasts Twisted Metal and God of War designer David Jaffe as one of its panelists, with the rest being Sony execs. I guess that’s to be expected.

Castle Crashers on Its Way to PS3

The XBLA hit Castle Crashers is set to come to PS3, according to an announcement at Comic-Con. PS3 owners everywhere let out a roar of approval, while Xbox 360 owners stomped around and demanded Noby Noby Boy in exchange. Sadly, we they were ignored.

If you’re hoping for some sort of detailed information, such as when the game will be available on the PlayStation Network, well, keep hoping; nothing else was announced beyond the fact that the game is crossing platforms. Well, that and the fact that Castle Crashers seems to run just fine on the PS3. That’s certainly good news!

Noby Noby Boy: Even Weirder Than Katamari

Katamari Damacy is an undeniably awesome franchise, but it’s also a little on the weird side, so it’s not exactly surprising that Keita Takahashi’s next project is a little unusual. Noby Noby Boy puts the player into the shoes role of an unfortunately shaped something charged with eating and stretching your way through a minimalist world.

To what end do you roll and stretch? There’s no telling, but it looks like good destructive fun from this clip, so perhaps rolling and stretching is a purpose unto itself.

Oh, to live such a simple life.

Noby Noby Boy is currently set for release via the PlayStation Network early next year, and while it has not yet been priced for North America, the European download will drop at the ridiculously-low rate of 3.99€.
