While there was no Lady Gaga to present this Polaroid camera at CES, it still has some interesting features, since the whole thing is powered by Android. In a world with powerful cameras integrated into every smartphone, why shouldn’t it makes sense to have Android run a camera instead?

Polaroid’s latest digital camera, the SC1630, is an Android-powered smart camera, with a 16MP sensor as well as a 3× optical zoom (and 5× digital zoom). It also offers automatic face and smile detection, red-eye removal, color correction and geo-tagging of images.

The SC1630 packs a touchscreen display and Wi-Fi connectivity which allow you to easily upload your photos with a single button. The 3.2-inch screen (800×480 resolution) allows you to preview images nicely. In terms of storage, it can hold up to 32GB, via a microSD card – though it’s unclear if this will be included in the price.

It also offers all of the abilities normally associated with Android, such as web browsing, a calendar, email and app downloads. So basically, it’s a smartphone without the phone – and none of the carrier contracts that usually go with. The Polaroid SC1630 should be released this April and will sell for $299 (USD).

If you find digital cameras too easy to use and too mainstream for your liking and wish that you could get an old Polaroid camera instead, then Urban Outfitters is the place to go. They are selling a limited edition of Polaroid cameras right now.

Basically, they got their hands on the remaining refurbished units of the Sun 600 instant film camera from the 1980s. Once these are gone, that’s it. This “Vintage Polaroid 600 Camera Kit” comes with two packs of film. One for color shade and one for silver shade. Don’t worry about running out of hipster ammo, the film itself is back in production, just not the cameras.

You can get the Vintage Polaroid 600 Camera Kit for $180(USD) from Urban Outfitters’ website. Seems like you just can’t keep Polaroid cameras down. Take them away and everyone wants one. If you want one, you’d better hurry before they run out.

Back in the day, the Polaroid SX-70 instant camera was on the cutting edge of portable gadget tech. Now, Photojojo is offering the old school SX-70 as a limited-edition refurbished unit for you to buy and enjoy some memories of the old days. I know I remember these cameras and the whirring sound of instant film shooting out of the front of the camera from every holiday growing up.

This particular camera was only made until 1977. It has a very cool, iconic design and each camera has been restored so that it looks perfect when you get it out of the box. Photojojo also offers the film you need to shoot all the pics you want. Each of the cameras was made and sold in the 1972 to 1977 range.

The camera uses Impossible Project PX100 instant film or any old SX-70 film you might still have lying around. Each film pack has batteries inside so no batteries are needed. The camera can’t be returned, but they will trade you for a different camera if it doesn’t work when you get it. The restored SX-70 sells for $350 (USD) with a ship date of Mid-October, and film sells for a whopping $22 for eight shots.

Will these conceptual wonders never cease? Designer Mac Funamizu has come up with a lot of designs in the past, but his latest called “Sophie” is truly something.

What do you think about an iPhone case that also functions as a Polaroid printer?

Michael, a commenter on Yanko Design has suggested that a real prototype of a Polaroid printer in the guise of an iPhone case isn’t that far off. He remarks that Polaroid has actually been looking into this type of technology with the use of some specialized paper but encountered issues as to how much paper a small, printer could hold or how it can be reloaded.

Anyhow, I still think that it’s a pretty cool concept and would love to see companies give this concept design a whirl.

Geeks never cease to amaze me with the things they can think up – and then sell to other geeks. Take this dude, Dan Riordan. He has made a small business over on Etsy out of taking Polaroid cameras and making them into lamps.

Yeah, you read that right. Dan turns old cameras into lamps that you can use to light your desk up. The camera used in the photo is an old Polaroid I have seen before; it’s the Land Camera 95A. I am used to the old SX70s and One-Steps that shoot the picture out the front when talking picture.

The one shown here is now sold. It went for $150 and the LED light on it is good for about 50,000 hours use before it burns out. Those bulbs are dimmable too. If you like the idea of the lamp and can’t make your own, Dan promises more lamps are coming this weekend so keep checking his store.

You can order Pixel Perfect camera vinyl decals from Scribble on Everything. They come in three packs, each of them selling for $36 (USD). The Pixel Perfect Camera Collection has 30 decals 2 to 5 inches wide. The SLR pack contains 10 decals 8.25 to 9.25 inches wide, while the medium format pack contains 10 decals that are 5.5 to 6.5 inches wide. I wonder if you can cut them out and fit them on actual cameras.

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s or 1980s has seen and probably used one of the Polaroid instant cameras with the pics that shoot out the front and develop themselves. The cameras are largely extinct, and the film is scarce. If you want to give a bit of cool retro style to your iPhone and like that old Polaroid you need this sticker.

The sticker is for the iPhone 4, and makes the back of the camera look like the white and rainbow covered OneStep instant. My parents had the black one, but I do recall this camera from my youth. The sticker has a cut out over the lens and flash so you can still shoot pics. The sticker should keep scratches off the back of the device too.

What this needs is an app that doesn’t show the pics until you shake the phone for a while and makes that noise the camera makes when the photos shoot out. You can pick one up for about $6 over at PhotoJojo.

I’m no hardware expert, but for the longest time I’ve been wondering why instant cameras are not commonplace nowadays despite Polaroid’s pioneering technology decades ago. Sure, even our phones can store tons of pics, but nothing beats sharing an actual photo. That’s why I was intrigued by the “Flutter in Pinhole” concept by designers Yoo Geun-hyuk & Yoon Bo-jung – it’s a disposable instant camera that doubles as a postcard.

As you’ll see in the presentation below, the Flutter in Pinhole camera is easy to use. Just expand the box, align your shot, and then tear off the black strip in front. The strip covers two pinholes, and inside the box are two small Polaroid sheets. This creates two identical shots. You can then use the camera’s cardboard body as a postcard – you can send one of the pictures and keep the other. Awesome.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

What do you guys think? Sounds like a great way to share pictures right? Of course the downside is that you don’t get a digital copy for archiving, but you can always scan your copy.

The new (old) Polaroid camera, the Polaroid 300, is about to be released in May. That’s great news, because I always liked the instant photos that Polaroids took. However, there’s some bad news: it costs $90 (USD).

It looks like Polaroid film might die a second time with this pricing strategy. What do you think? Is it worth paying $10 for 10 Polaroid shots when you can take thousands on your dSLR for free? I suppose if you’re into the unique visual style of Polaroid pics, it could be worth it for you.

I don’t know, I just hope that the prices come down or that you can buy film in bulk for a discount. Or maybe this new release is geared toward the artsy fartsy hipsters, who won’t mind paying that much money for shots.

Although Polaroid already has the PoGo – a digital camera that can also print pictures instantly – the upcoming PIC 1000 is the more faithful successor to their classic instant cameras. Not only does the PIC 1000 have the famous Polaroid body, the pictures it prints also features the classic white borders, thanks to the revival of good old Polaroid Color 600 instant film.

I’m not too keen on the redesign though; I can’t see how we’re supposed to hold the camera to take pictures. I think the body’s unusual shape also forced the designers to move the viewfinder to such an awkward position.

But why should we focus on negative impressions when there are awesome facts to be happy about? The PIC 1000 will be released this year and will be sold at the low price of $100 (USD). Let’s hope that Polaroid doesn’t screw us with the price of the film.

If you know what to do when Andre3000 tells you to shake it like a Polaroid picture, then you’re probably well acquainted with the anachronistic instant cameras from as early as the late 40′s. For the younger folks out there, instant cameras have built-in printers and use self-developing films, allowing users to print their pictures seconds after each shot. Polaroid doesn’t make film cameras anymore, but they’ve embraced other modern technologies as well to come up with the Polaroid PoGo, a digital instant camera.

The old instant cameras could print pics on the spot, but you had no way of viewing or editing the pictures prior to printing, an option that’s all too common nowadays in digital cameras. The PoGo combines the best of both worlds, which means you can shoot, preview, re-shoot if needed, edit and then print all from the same device. The PoGo can print up to 15 pictures on a fully charged battery, but you can also transfer your shots to a computer via USB so you can view or print on your PC later.

As you can see, the 5.0 megapixel PoGo is equipped with a 3.0″ LCD screen, where you can preview your photo and edit them if you wish. You can crop, remove red-eye, add borders and even print dates on your photos before you print them. It takes 40 seconds for a picture to be printed on the PoGo – not much different than waiting for a classic Polaroid to develop.

The PoGo prints pictures on a 2″x3″ heat-activated photo paper called Zink (short for Zero Ink). Zink paper is “smudge-proof, water-resistant, fade-resistant and tear-proof” and environment-friendly as well. The PoGo is available at Amazon for $199.95 (USD). Extra sheets of Zink paper are also $12.99 for a pack of 30.
