I’m not sure what reason the ancient Chinese had for using animals and why they were assigned to their respective years, but Wright actually provides historical justification as to how the Geek Zodiac is arranged. For example, the Alien sign takes 1938 – and all years in its cycle – because that was the year when the infamous radio broadcast of H.G. Welles’ War of the Worlds occurred. Justin D. Russo is the artist, and I’m sure he’d appreciate it if you’d take a look at some of his other wonderful geeky works. Mario’s usually lighthearted “here we go!” has been given a relatively somber tone. It’s less like the man is stomping Goombas to rescue the princess, and more like he’s about to breach a door with a pack of explosives. “C-4 is armed!” *Mario holds the detonator* Here we go… *blows open the door and starts slaughtering super battle droids*

Link’s phrase is not one that I ever recall him saying, since I’m fairly sure that he has developed just the most basic forms of communication, and is only capable of grunting his approval. If only we could all woo the beautiful princess with our simpleton grunting. So, Link: you’re embarking on a treacherous journey? *Grunt* Oh, and you need to buy a shield? *Grunt* No, we don’t have any swirl ice cream left in the freezer. *Frenzied grunting* Watch your tone with me, you little punk! *Link chops the merchant in half* If only we could actually do that in the Zelda games – Saint’s Row plus Zelda equals way more fun? Also, we need some really fast cars just to balance out the gameplay.

If you can believe it, there was a time where I would watch Empire and Jedi once a month. Apparently, Episode V’s story has enough plot points in it that it had to be spread out across two lengthy illustrations. Be sure to look carefully for some of the more hilarious moments (like the delicious plate of tauntaun intestine spaghetti):

When Wayne first posted these giant images earlier this year, he was hit with so much bandwidth usage that he had to move the illustrations off of his website to avoid a massive hosting bill.

It’s part of The Curiosity Project, and it’s supposed to bridge the gap between digital media and print. The QR codes were crafted and then printed on posters, which were hung around New York City. Each QR code linked to a blog post on the Curiosity Project site.

They used Hershey’s Kisses, magnets, Post-It notes, and other stuff to make these QR codes. There’s nothing quite like QR codes you can eat after you’re done with them.

This 18″x24″ wall poster includes some of the best and worst moments in the history of Apple, ranging from the original Apple II to the Mac to the systems of Apple’s “dark” period, like the Quadras, Performas, eMate 300 and the hideous first-gen iBook. You know, the one that looked like a toilet seat.

While the chart seems fairly comprehensive from 1983 through 2011 – all the way up to the iPhone 4S, you won’t find Apple’s XServw line, some of the special educational models, or the earliest Apple models like the Apple I, Apple II and II+. I wonder why they chose to skip those. I’m a bit of a completionist, so would like to have seen EVERY Apple system ever. Except for those awful 3rd party clones from the likes of Power Computing, Motorola and UMAX. I’d rather forget that era.

Regardless, it’s still a pretty cool bit of chart-art for Apple fanatics. Each poster is signed and numbered by the artists, from this limited second-edition of just 1000 prints. I you’d like one for your wall, you can order it from Brooklyn’s Pop Chart Labs for $25(USD).

The overall design of the poster is retro and minimal at the same time. It’s got sort of an Art Deco look to it, and it shows Vader in a whole new light (or dark). If you like this design, Russell has created plenty of other cool Star Wars illustrations, like the Boba Fett poster below.

This single image, simply titled Mario Dreams, is jam-packed with characters from the Mario universe, all drawn with a whimsical and dreamy cartoony style that I’d personally love to see Nintendo use in an upcoming Mario game. I’m not holding my breath, but thankfully I can still have this poster for my wall.

Behold! The Magna Arbor Vitae Deku. It’s Latin for “Beautifully Drawn Huge Ass Print. Deku.” I kid. It means The Great Deku Tree of Life. As you can see, ol’ Deku Tree’s branches are quite organized. Even though each branch is not explicitly labeled, there are various phyla, which branch out into orders and then genera and then species. El Juderino then gave each organism its own binomial Latin name, a laudable feat in itself.

His Judeness said that he’ll be selling 15 copies of Magna Arbor Vitae Deku at the SUPER iam8bit art show in Los Angeles, but seeing as the show already kicked off yesterday I wouldn’t be surprised if he already sold them all. But don’t worry, Juder will release posters of the print after the show ends. Check out The Jude’s website for magna-sized pictures. I suggest you alternate between the tree itself and the names to discover gems like Vulpes keaton, Testudosaxeus tricollum and good ol’ creature number 167.

Now it’s not exactly a normal Pac-Man maze, but this 33″ x 23″ London Tube map will help you get around town whilst (we speak proper English here) knowing the exact whereabouts of Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde as well as some tasty power pills, cherries and other fruits.

The only thing it really changed to celebrate that anniversary was to move to iPads for the signs in its stores. It did ship out a big poster that was put in the back for workers to read talking about what we it has learned over the years. Some of the stuff is pretty interesting and talks about little things I have never thought of. One of the strange little things was the mention of the metal façade of the building and how to keep it clean:

“Our first store, in Tysons Corner, taught us our first lesson within the first 30 minutes. We had just opened the doors when we noticed the steel already needed polishing. With a special polishing solution. And a special polishing tool. That’s when we learned that blasting steel with virgin sand makes it less prone to scuff marks.

Another fun bit of trivia is about their employee’s t-shirts:

“We’ve found that when we wear black T-shirts, we blend in. And when we wear too many colors it’s confusing. But blue shirts are just right. We’ve also learned that it takes precisely 4,253 stitches to embroider the Apple logo on those blue shirts. And we even figured out which direction the stitches should go in. “

Martz and Koyama Press will be giving away a copy each of the poster – which by the way is limited to 300 copies only – to the two people who can name the most characters in the poster. Each of the illustrations measures 24″×34″. They feature Darth Vader, TK-1901 (a member of the elite 501st Legion) and naturally Boba Fett, the “baddest” bounty hunter in the galaxy.

I like the minimal way that the overall images are made. I haven’t been able to find out if these will be made for us to buy, but with the interest that it generated, I’m hopeful that they will be produced as posters or t-shirts someday.

If you’re wondering, Doctor Who started out in 1963 and since then, eleven different actors portrayed him. The latest one is Matt Smith. The first six are in their respective order William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, and Colin Baker.

My favorite Doctor Who is the one portrayed by Tom Baker. While I haven’t watched the episodes with the first three doctors, I have watched all of them after that. The second row definitely represents Doctors four to six. They are easily recognizable. Alex mentions that if there is enough interest, he plans on selling these posters.

The poster measures 24″×36″ and features my favorite Star Wars droid broken down into all of its essential components. Favorite droids in Star Wars? That wouldn’t be C-3PO, but the lesser known IG-88 would be. Although I have to say the General Grievous is a fantastic droid/enemy.
