If you’ve been following Nintendo for awhile, you have probably noticed that they’ve make some pretty bone-headed decisions lately. A lot of them. Take these three new 3DS consoles for instance. They look awesome, don’t they? They are just what we want as far as design goes. Sorry, you can’t buy any of them.
They are giving them away through Japan’s Club Nintendo, and only in a sweepstakes. Had they actually released these Princess Peach, Mario, and Toad consoles, we would be buying them faster than they could be produced. I guess Nintendo doesn’t like mountains of cash these days.

These versions are limited to one thousand of each and only available to Club Nintendo members to win. They should be selling these. To me! Right now! Oh well, there’s always paint I guess. C’mon Nintendo, give us more cool design options like these.

What would Zelda and Peach talk about if they got together for a cup of coffee? Well, College Humor decided to see where this would go. It’s probably best that these two video game characters don’t come out and play too often. They’d get annoying pretty quickly.

It turns out that both Peach and Zelda prefer their kidnappers to Mario and Link. It looks to me like they developed Stockholm syndrome, and actually like spending time with Bowser and Ganondorf.

There are plenty of funny revelations that both of these girls share. My favorite part was when Ganondorf picked up Zelda for couple’s yoga.

The Dark Phoenix apron is my favorite, even if it’s obviously for women. Check out Bethany’s website for more of her character aprons. Instructions on ordering are on her site as well. The adult-sized aprons typically cost $35-$50 (USD), more if the design is complicated.

Over a period of 6 months, Instructables member skeplin gathered up a whole crapload of caps and made himself a giant Princess Peach mosaic with all of them. By taking each cap and handpainting it with one of 16 colors, then arranging them into a 28×35 grid, he created this pixelated masterwork to hang on his wall. He used a little bit of Perl and ImageMagick to figure out the colors from Peach’s original image, then used that data to build his pixel map. But why talk about it, when you can see how he did it?

Now you’re probably are saying to yourself, why would I ever dress up my dog like a character from Super Mario Bros.? And I’ll tell you that you need to do it so your furry friend can be just as humiliated as you are when you have to pick up his poop.

These ridiculous Nintendo-inspired dog costumes come to us courtesy of YoungUrbanPuppy, and are available in Mario, Princess Peach and Luigi varieties.

Why not get a few of your doggie pals together and you can simulate actual gameplay – except this time, with wiener dogs.

And if you are a Nintendo fan, but would rather not go with the goofy Super Mario Bros. theme, you could always go for this slightly more dignified look…

They’re available over at YoungUrbanPuppy’s Etsy shop and made to order to fit your dog. Even so, I don’t think my 100-pound Bernese Mountain Dog would fit in one.

This insane looking N64 has to be one of the most creative video game casemods I’ve seen in quite a while.

When I first saw the photos of this thing, I actually thought it was some sort of wedding cake. But hiding beneath the Princess Peach’s castle shell is a fully-functional Nintendo 64 console.

The castle design really does look like the original 3D Princess’ castle in Super Mario 64 – except you can look all the way around this one without fumbling to use the camera on your controller – and the texture maps are better on this one.

According to the eBay listing, “the exterior of the castle has been molded to look like the bricks and roof tiles, then painted. The mural of Princess Peach is a very detailed mosaic and the five flags are made of cloth.” The modder also managed to maintain all of the original ventilation, even when the top half of the castle is put in place.

If you can believe it, this thing was on eBay for 10 days, and after a dozen bids already has sold to one very lucky bidder for just $100 bucks. I bet they could have sold it for lots more if they had only waited for me to report on it

To enter the contest, simply leave a comment at the end of this article, telling us your fondest Nintendo-related memory (in 150 words or less).
To get your creative juices flowing, Chris has contributed this story which best describes his fondness for the “Big N”:

From the time I first picked up an NES controller, to now where I have to force myself to put the Wii controller down, there have been a lot of great Nintendo memories to choose from.

Most important to me is the game that took my fondness for video games and turned it into a passion; Ocarina of Time.

There isn’t really a singular moment I recall best, I just remember the feeling I got when playing through it the first time. I could sit on my family room floor and play for hours, happy to simply ride around the fields of Hyrule. For me, that was the game that made me realize I wanted video games to be a part of my life for years to come.

All entries must be received prior to 11:59pm Central Time on Monday, March 31, 2008 to be eligible. You must post using a valid e-mail address, and only one entry will be accepted per e-mail account.
About the Artist

Chris Lange is an up and coming artist based in the Washington DC area. He is best known for his Nintendo themed collages, which are made entirely of old Nintendo Power magazines. Fittingly enough, these collages have been featured in Nintendo Power magazine, and one is even displayed in the Nintendo of America headquarters on the west coast.

Mr. Lange, an avid gamer and die-hard Nintendo fan, has attracted significant international attention for his work. In addition to his collages, his portfolio includes black and white and color photography, and computer illustrations.

If you’d like to find out more about Chris Lange or request a custom collage visit his personal website. If you are interested in purchasing one of Chris’ originals or even one of his prints you can do so at his Etsy or eBay pages.
