Shawn started with a 3D model of the helmet loaded into a papercraft modeling program called Pepakura Designer, which output pieces of paper to cut and glue into a model. Once the model was created out of paper, Shawn covered it inside and out with layers of fiberglass resin. Then he sanded, polished, and painted it in multiple coats to give it that distressed, war-worn look. The result is pretty awesome, and it definitely looks like one a Space Marine Terminator would have no problem wearing.

Shawn created this as a display piece and in total, spent about $45 on materials, which is pretty cheap compared to what he ended up with. Of course, many more hours of his time and talent went into it as well.

For just $85 (USD), you can own a full-size replica of the original Mattel Hoverboard, handcrafted by JGDesignz. It looks very much like the one featured in the movie – after Marty McFly steals it from the little girl and pops the handle off, that is.

Each Hoverboard measures about 8″ wide by 27″ long, and is made out of rigid 1/2″ thick foam board, with hand-painted wood pieces on the bottom, coated with clear-coat and epoxied to the board. To finish it off, there are accurate vinyl decals on both sides, along with the velcro foot strap thing on the back too.

If you want one of these for yourself, head on over to Etsy, and get your order in right away. Since each one is handmade, there could be a backlog if there’s enough demand. JG is careful to point out that the hoverboard does not actually function, so don’t bother if you had your heart set on riding one. Of course, with 2015 just a few years away, you never know if Mattel will make these for real.

Yes, you heard me right. This awesome prop, created by special effect artist Robert Haiduga of Nephalim XFX is based on the T-800′s endoskeleton arm in Terminator 2, and it actually moves. This is a custom-built animatronic arm, and each joint moves thanks to a total of 12 servos. Movements are programmed on a PC and stored on an SD card. It even comes with sound effects to make it more authentic.

Including its base, the arm measures about 43 inches long, and appears to be made using metal components to really make it look like a robot. Each finger can move individually, and the wrist and entire arm can rotate as well. In action, it’s sufficiently freaky to induce nightmares. But enough talking, it’s time for showing. Pretty awesome, no? So why aren’t there 1000 people lined up to buy one? Well, since each arm takes many, many hours to build, they’re not cheap. You’ll need to pony up $3600 (USD) if you want your very own Terminator arm. And then on top of that, you’ll need to spend millions on a security system to keep Skynet from stealing it.

The cosplay gun was created by prop-maker Zander Brandt of ZPROPS, and it’s a dead-ringer for the M-29 sniper rifle from the game, including all the little details, and a perfect paintjob.

It was created for a client who is working on a matching costume to go with. I’d think it would look quite perfect at the side of Garrus Vakarian – though I actually don’t know what the costume will be.

The only thing missing is the ability for this thing to actually fire rounds. There’s nothing quite like a weapon with the accuracy of a sniper rifle that can fire bursts of multiple bullets in a fraction of a second, and I wish it was standard issue in every FPS.

He built the prop rifle from MDF and PVC tube and used styrene to cover up the rough edges and seams so he wouldn’t have to use Bondo.

This time, faustus70 has outed Big Bertha. Just like her brother, Bertha is crafted from wood from an old chair, but this one has more of a Tommy gun sort of look compared to Big Daddy. And that’s no coincidence. Bertha got her start as a Ruff Stuff Air Blaster Tommy 20. Of course, she’s totally unrecognizable compared to her humble plastic beginnings – but no less (fake) lethal.

The firing mechanism under her no-nonsense wooden and metal riveted exterior is able to fire up to 20 of those little suction-cup darts in under 40 seconds, perfect for shooting at smooth surfaces. The leather grip and shoulder pad are also nice touches.

If you missed out on Big Daddy, head on over to Etsy and plunk down $380 (USD) of your hard-earned scratch for his bad-ass sister before she gets snatched up. You might just be able to wield Big Bertha in time for Halloween.

This wood and metal gun got its start as a NERF N-Strike Barricade gun, but thanks to the mad model-making artistry of faustus70, it’s been converted into the ultimate retro weapon. Faustus built the exterior of this gun from planks cut from an antique wooden chair, and then wrapped it with hand-cut aluminum he riveted into place.

Of course, the best part is that it still can actually fire NERF darts. The magazine holds 10 whistler darts, and it uses 3 AA batteries to help fire them. It also has a scope that offers 3x magnification to help you take aim on your victims.

If you’re looking for that final prop to finish off your Halloween costume, or just think this thing is as cool as I do, you’d better head on over to Etsy now and plunk down your $300 (USD) – since this is a one-of-a-kind weapon.

Well, if you’ve got $3500 to spare, have I got something for you! This animatronic door is one of the best scares I’ve seen in a while, and there’s one for sale right now over on Etsy.

Nice effect, eh? Especially that part when it looks like the axe is chopping through the door, right? The effect is achieved with a 22-inch LCD monitor, along with a special DVD from Hi-Rez Designs which has DTMF tracks which cue the pneumatics behind the door at just the right time. They even offer up build instructions for customers who want to build one for themselves.

While you could try and build your own door, it’s probably way easier to pick up this one that’s already built over on Etsy, from the appropriately named “999deadpatricia”. And if you don’t have $3500 to spare, you could always just pick up the DVD, and just play that on a monitor (without the pneumatics).

I so want to replace my front door with this for Halloween this year.

These guns are made by UK propmaker Nicholas Robatto, who also happens to make props and set-pieces for Doctor Who these days. Each weapon is backed by an elaborate back-story and functional description so you know how to use them in the event of an alien attack.

Prices for these prop ray-guns currently range from $375 to $860 (USD), and each one is handmade and sold in a limited edition. They each come with a matching stand and a certificate of authenticity too. You can get the acrylic versions of these ray-guns over on Etsy, but if you really want a special treat, check out RubberToe Rayguns website, where you can special order the Clockwork Vapouriser (the large image at top) made from brass instead of acrylic.

It was created from a cast from the ring that was used in the movie. That’s pretty geek chic. The Green Lantern ring will cost you $39.99 (USD) and you can get it from BigBadToyStore.

This Thor hammer looks a lot better than this one we featured earlier this year. Keep in mind the hammer still isn’t made out metal (Thank God. Could you imagine the shipping costs?), it’s just made out of polymer. You can get it from 80stees for $75.

Here’s a Green Hornet gas gun replica. Hopefully it’s made better than the movie was, and won’t accidentally fire gas pellets at you instead of your intended victim. It sells for $149.95 at Hollywood Collectibles.

Perhaps the best movie prop replica of this bunch is Hellboy’s Big Baby. This beast weighs close to 50 lbs. and comes complete with six removable shells. This Big Baby will set you back $499.99, and that’s on special – it used to cost $749.99 (!).You can get it at the BigBadToyStore.

Instead of fragments, chemicals or explosives, the grenades supposedly blast out a recording of Johnson’s lemon rant followed by an explosion sound effect. Here’s Myles’ description of his work: Tops from some old airsoft bb loaders, random springs to make the spoons fly off when you pull the pins, some paper plus modge podge labels, and a hacked greeting card so when the spoon comes off Cave does his rant and then a big BOOOM.

Ryan’s 38-inch tall prop turret replica is actually based on the turret from the original game, and as such, he has designated it as a “version 1.0″ or “classic” turret. Either way, it’s pretty damned awesome. While it doesn’t fire killer lasers, it shoots off some more gentle optical ones, and has motion-activated audio that can detect when someone enters the room. It actually has 17 audio tracks to choose from and randomly picks one when a test subject enters the room. It can also play the Portal theme as a bonus.

It took Ryan and his wife Dena months to put together this turret, and all their hard work really shows. They built it from styrofoam, Apoxie Sculpt, Bondo, wood, custom molded components, as well as a custom electronics circuit and various other parts. And lots of white paint.

The gun was lovingly assembled by the guys at New Zealand’s extraordinarily talented WETA Workshop (the same WETA that does effects for movies like Lord of the Rings, Avatar and District 9). The gun is based on the Level 1 Sentry Gun from Team Fortress 2, and it actually can detect movement, track from side-to-side, light up and make authentic sounds.

The guys over at ThinkGeek got their hands on these limited edition replica guns which are completely faithful to the weapons wielded in James Cameron’s classic sci-fi actioner.

Thanks to the inclusion of metal components, HCG’s M41-A prop replica weighs in at a hefty 15 pounds, and offers realistic pump-action and a collapsible shoulder stock. Plus, when you drop a clip into the chamber with a couple of AA batteries, you’ll get an LED ammo counter – which locks in a reassuring 95 rounds – too bad it doesn’t count down when you pull the trigger. It’s a bummer they don’t include a shoulder strap for the price either.

Based on Obi-Wan Kenobi’s saber, this impeccable build has a rugged metal body, along with a intensely authentic blade, courtesy of a set of bright blue LEDs. He’s even taken bits and pieces from a Hasbro Force FX saber along with a high-quality speaker to provide authentic saber humming sounds, and a vibrating rumble pack too. The guy made his own replica of the M8 Avenger Assault rifle from the Mass Effect video game. Krix points out that his replica is a bit different from what you see in the game because it is a mash up of the two different versions that can be found in the game artwork.

On the Volpin Props site, Harrison walks us through the entire build process and the finished product looks like a real weapon. It’s made from wood, paint, and lots of geeky elbow grease. I wish I had the skills to make something like this.

Now, don’t go trying to recreate scenes from Twilight – only the gore-filled ones from True Blood – or any other bloody horror film. But every time I think about Twilight, I puke a little in my mouth. OK, that’s not true, but I just can’t stomach sparkly, teeny-bopper vampires.

Blood Bath Shower Gel allows you to get clean after a long day fighting werewolves and armies of the undead. It comes in a cherry scent, which is good because if it smelled like a morgue, you’d have problems at work.

According to the lot’s details, the 10 ft. tall phone booth/time machine/house, is “a painted rasped wood panel and glass construction”. The “Police Box” signs are removable, and it comes with roof lamps and additional interior lighting. No mention is made about its time-traveling capabilities though, so I’m guessing they’ve been disabled due to liability concerns.

The auction will take place on June 23, 2010; the prop is estimated to fetch between £8,000 to £12,000 (approx. $12,000 to $18,000 USD). Check out Bonhams’ website for more details.

I sure am glad I wasn’t eating when I saw this, or else I might have puked my own insides out. Actually I think I still might disembowel myself so let’s get this over with. Gothic Nightmare says that the intestines and alien worm-looking stuff are made of expanding spray foam insulation that’s been spray painted. “Bits of twine and stuff” were added for the veins. I don’t want to know what the “stuff” might be. Then a pair of jeans was stuffed with plastic to fill it out.

A makeshift “twitcher” made of an ice crusher’s motor, some levers and wood was then attached to one of its legs. The end product is a monstrosity that even the undead would find unsettling:

There’s a joke in here somewhere between that sick squeaking sound and the twitching, but I’m too nauseated to make it up. But if you think it’s awesome and all,  the disgustingly talented unnamed prop maker recommends that you use a slower motor – like a wiper motor – to power the leg, because the ice crusher’s motor made the leg move too fast so it had to be slowed down with a dimmer switch. I need to lie down.
