The Google name is carved into six gigantic pumpkins. Several of these massive pumpkins weigh over 1,000 pounds. Google workers spent eight hours carving them into designs that look like the letters needed to spell “Google.” I like the fifth letter the best myself, but the only one I could have carved was the giant “l.”

The only pumpkins I’ve ever managed to carve were ones with foolish grins and crooked smiles. And I used to think they were pretty decent, until I saw what Ray Villafane managed to do with his pumpkin.

Working with regular-sized pumpkins is already enough of a challenge for most people. But Ray did a more than spectacular job carving these creepy zombies and demons bursting out from their pumpkin grave from the world’s largest pumpkin. And when we say “world’s largest,” we really do mean the world’s largest and heaviest, as it weighed in at 1,818.5 pounds.

The giant pumpkin carving will be on display at the New York Botanical Garden until month’s end so drop by and take a few shots, if you happen to be in the area.

This guy carving a pumpkin with his .40 Glock reminds me of that old poster. The guy sits down, takes aim, and shoots a face into the hollow pumpkin. It all looks pretty easy. Check out the video below to see all the carving action.

I think if I tried it, my pumpkin would end up looking like Charlie Brown’s ghost costume with random holes everywhere.

I think we can all admit we had a thing for Seven of Nine, she was the best part of the show and she even looks good on a pumpkin, as does T’Pol. Speaking of T’Pol I saw that actress on a different show with long hair and it took me 20 minutes to realize who she was.

I have already talked about some of the cool pumpkins for Halloween over the last few weeks and the best thing about these things are carved on those fake crafting pumpkins so you can use them year after year. You can order them up starting at $90 each.

The guy took a tall and thin pumpkin and rather than cutting into the thing, he removed the skin from the outside of the pumpkin until he had the raised skin left looking like everyone’s favorite droid R2-D2. The entire pumpkin glows from within because it knows just how awesome it really is.

The guy says it took about 11 hours to carve the thing, and I can’t think of a better way to have spent 11 geeky hours to be honest. As you can see, the pumpkin was carved from anatomically correct images.

One particular geek out there has taken one of those large fake foam pumpkins and cut the back out of it to make way for a control board, power supply, and a bunch of LED lights. The LEDs in this project are red and poked into the front of the pumpkin in an arrangement that allows the controller set up to provide different facial expressions.

The final project looks weird in the daylight, but when it’s dark, it looks really awesome. Plus, using a fake pumpkin means you don’t have to scoop out those disgusting pumpkin innards. The directions to replicate the LED pumpkin for yourself can be found over at The Vapor Trail.

I kid you not when I say “cornucopia” – there are video game pumpkins a-plenty, and they range from the contemporary to the classic, including Earthworm Jim, Shadow of the Colossus, Plants vs. Zombies, and Fallout’s “Vault Boy.”

As with Fisher’s Zelda pumpkins, ceemdee’s pumpkin art rocks some serious intricacy and detail. When asked about her carving process, ceemdee told Kotaku in an email:

“Mainly I’ve used an x-acto knife and three tiny screwdrivers to do most of the carving. I used some wood carving tools to scrap out the bigger areas on a few of the pumpkins and a needle is used to trace the image. They were all carved in the last four weeks. It’s actually only four pumpkins (one a week) with three carvings on each. : )”

Zelda fans – Looking for something to go with your new Master Sword & Hylian Shield? Here’s a fun idea for some last minute Halloween decorations. Found on flickr, these Link and Triforce Jack-o-Lanterns were hand-carved by Fred Fisher (aka “b1uefish”) and his sister. These pumpkins truly Hy-rule!

Well, that’s one way to market your crafty supplies. One awesome way. I think I just officially got over custom action figures. There aren’t even any snakes! But I must say, they’re awfully… rigid… with those lightsabers.

This display was spotted at a craft store, which means that someone probably got paid for painting pumpkins black and putting together costumes. I never thought I would actually aspire to retail, but if I could actually sew, I’m pretty sure I would consider that a viable career choice. I’m sure I could manage to paint. Probably.

All it took was a little orange paint for the “pumpkin”, and a JPEG viewer application for the face. This is the best use for old Macs since the original MacQuarium.

The cool thing about this pumpkin is that you can grab the pattern from Seed of the Zombie Pumpkins! to make your very own plumber-inspired Halloween decoration.

In addition to Mario, Zombie Pumpkins! has designs for Wario, Bowser, and characters from a couple of other video games too. The site charges $2 to download up to two of the intricate patterns, or you can pay as little as $5 (or whatever you think it’s worth) and get access to the full library of patterns, which includes over 140 cool, unique designs in a variety of genres.

Mmmm… Now I want me some pumpkin pie.
