Looking for the perfect gift for the math geek who has everything?… or the math geek who has nothing? How about a brightly-glowing Pi symbol? Contrary to the mathematical constant, there’s nothing irrational about this thing, but it will constantly glow when you hang it on your wall.

I spotted this geeky Pi art over at LuxChroma’s Etsy shop, and it’s quite the thing for the math-obsessed out there. While you probably can’t use Pi in an equation to determine the size of this thing, I’ll tell you that it measures 15.5″ (w) x 15.25″ (h), and is constructed from durable PVC, with bright LED backlighting. The default version comes with green illumination, but can be requested with white, blue, red or amber LEDs too.

Mathematicians, you can grab your glowing Pi wall art over on Etsy for $65 (USD). If you’re more into computers than math, be sure to check out the glowing 5-1/4″ floppy disk or USB symbol, and Mac users will enjoy this glowing command-key symbol.

Did you ever wish you could take your Nintendo Wii with you wherever you go? Well this enterprising casemodder proves that you can do it if you have the time, patience, and modding talent, it’s definitely possible.

Modder OMGPedoBear took about 3 months in his spare time building this Wii laptop. He constructed the portable Wii out of expanded PVC sheets, and put a sizeable 17″ LCD monitor in the top lid, so this is defintely no netbook. Games are loaded by placing the Wii DVD upside-down in the front-loading tray.

In order to keep things cool inside such a flat case, there are a couple of extra fans in there. And unlike most video game systems, the Wii laptop has a full QWERTY keyboard (for all of those Wii typing games?)

As you can see from the back, the portable is a little lumpy and gloopy (hooray for hot glue!) around the edges and joints, but I’d like to see you try and do better. Still, the proof is truly in the pudding. Here’s a couple of videos footage showing the Wii laptop in action. Skip right to the second video if you just want to see gameplay:

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

While it may not be quite as purdy as Ben Heck’s original Wii Laptop, the fact that so few Wii portable mods ever get completed is a sign that it’s really not an easy task to pull off.

This remotely operated vehicle was created thanks to the brains of Jason Rollette, who’s been at it for about five years. This is the second version of his ROV submarine, which is built mostly from PVC tubing.

This kind of reminds me of the movie Abyss for some reason. The ROV submarine uses four 500gph and two 1,250gph bilge pumps. The bigger ones are used for propulsion while the smaller ones are used to dive and surface.

It’s got lights and naturally a functioning camera, which lets Jason guide it into the depths. Jason actually designed some non-explosive torpedoes as well. Sweet. Incredibly, all of the parts needed to build this sub are available at any home improvement store.

He’s got an meticulously detailed guide on how to create your own. Here’s a link to the basic how-to pdf file he created to start off with this build.

I’ve seen some pretty impressive geek costumes over the years, but this one might just take the cake. This precision-engineered Tauntaun costume has to be way up there at the top of the list.

Created by Scott Holden for the recent Zone Ball in Sacramento, this Tauntaun not only looks great, it actually walks. Scott modeled out the original plan for the behemoth costume using SolidWorks, and then built out a stilt mechanism to stand on while walking around in it. And no, those aren’t the rider’s real legs dangling there on either side – they’re actually hidden inside standing on the stilts.

He built the Tauntaun’s main body using PVC pipe and fabricated custom stilts with snowboard bindings to hold the wearer’s feet and legs in place while walking.

Scott created a custom silicone mold for the head, and airbrushed the details on a final foam cast form. To give the beast its fuzzy coat, Scott covered it with layers of faux fur, fastened to the body with zip-ties.

Our friends over at Meninos are at it again. The same guys who gave us those great iPhone icon coasters are back, and this time they’re packing a deck of iPhone playing cards.

While they look a bit more squatty than the proportions of an actual iPhone, these whimsical playing cards definitely get the point across. Each one features a colorful card face printed onto a PVC plastic card. And when the King calls, you’d better answer and not send him to Visual Voicemail.

I can’t find any pictures of what the Jokers look like, but if I designed them, I’d put Bill Gates on one, and Steve Ballmer on the other. You hear that Meninos guys?

The iPhone playing cards are available over at the Meninos shop for $25 (USD) a deck. Sure, that’s a bit expensive for a deck of cards, but I’m sure you’ll win that back the first time you flop a pair of pocket Aces and take down the whole table.

I’ve got this boring black bag that my laptop came with, and now I think I’ve finally found a replacement. Maybe I’m stuck in the 80s, but I still think that Pac-Man and his ghostly pals are in fashion.

Created by Rockza, the PacManiac series of briefcases is the perfect way to carry around a small notebook computer, papers and books, or as a lightweight carry-on for your next trip.

The bags are available in several styles, including one that’s covered with hundreds of colorful, pixelated denizens of Pac-World, and another with a slightly more subtle grey-on-black design. It looks like Rockza also makes a white version and a blue version, but they’re harder to find (and don’t look as good, IMHO). Each bag measures appx. 14″ x 10.25″ x 6″, which should hold a 14″ or smaller laptop.

Now the bad news. I can’t find anyone outside of Korea who’s selling these yet. If you’re willing to dive in and do a little translation, you might be able to get your hands on them over at HIPHOPER for 54,000 KRW (appx. $39 USD).
