Some people think that rock climbing walls are fun, but to me it sounds as mundane as a game of golf. In one, you hit a ball, go find the ball and hit it again. In the other, you just… climb. It doesn’t sound like a great time to me. But these Star Wars rock climbing accessories might help make it more fun.

They come from UK-based Hang Fast Adventure Structures. Instead of grasping onto a rock shaped thing, you can now hoist yourself up using the Death Star or R2-D2′s head. If I had a whole wall of Droid heads and Death Stars, I might actually want to climb it.

They also have some triangular pieces, one of which has the Millenium Falcon on it, but it doesn’t look so hot in that shape. A Star Destroyer would have been better. If you are a rock climber who is also a Star Wars nerd, you might want to check them out here.

I live in an area where being green and recycling isn’t really a big thing. In fact, I lived here for 10 years before I knew we even had a recycling center. In some communities, though, the push to be green is much more substantial. Case in point – in Knoxville, Tennessee, each year they hold a contest for The Water Quality Forum where geeks and artists get to create rain barrels for the collection of rainwater.

The purpose of the rain barrel is to capture rainwater runoff to be used for outdoor irrigation instead of turning on the hose. That would probably be a very good thing to do in Texas, if we didn’t go months without getting any rain. What may be the coolest rain barrel in the history of rain barrels was created specifically for this contest… The R2-D2 rain barrel.

The rain barrel was primed and painted in full and accurate R2-D2 likeness by artist Curtis Glover. Better yet, the R2 barrel is up for auction with proceeds going to charity. While it can’t project holograms or hack into the Death Star’s security system, I think the R2-D2 barrel will still bring a pretty penny.

Instructables contributor iminthebathroom posted this video of his wife filling up the R2-D2 “Dark Roast Edition” coffee maker to prove to us that it really works.

Just pour the water in his head, and out drips the coffee through that funky looking orb/filter basket in front of him and into the carafe. R2 started out as a Bunn industrial coffee maker, along with a bunch of custom parts including aluminum, brass, copper and steel. While you could follow the Instructable for building your own, we can only hope that Mr. Coffee and Lucasfilm see this thing and decide to produce their own R2 coffee maker for the rest of us.

These nails are not especially beautiful without their Star Wars coating, but with tiny astromech droids painted on them, they became wonderful! Plenty of people have painted their entire bodies to look like R2-D2 (what?) but not many have been able to pull of R2-D2 nails like this. I would have passed out from the smell of the nail polish by the time I was done with my index finger. ”That’s just because you tried to paint your face with it.” GO GO GO! *Rambo camo on face, jumps out of a second story window*

R2-D2 is that spunky robot with a personality that makes the ladies swoon. ”He’s not that cool.” Yeah, well next time a beautiful woman paints your body on her fingernails, call me. And then call the police and get a restraining order, because you have a serious problem that you need to nip in the bud.

The detail of these nails is pretty impressive – better than I can do, anyway. I was at a loss when I tried to find who is responsible for these beauties, so if anyone reading this would like to take credit, go ahead. Then, for verification, we’ll need to send you a glove to try on. ”It does not FIT! YOU MUST ACQUIT!” Oh, no, O.J. I am going to make this glove fit your hand if it is the last thing I do. Get the WD-40 and the shrink ray. ”We don’t have a shrink ray.” DON’T ARGUE, JUST GET IT DONE!

If you love these nails, then you’ll be infatuated with the R2-D2 Ballerina Costume and the R2-D2 Short Shorts.
Best Star Wars shorts ever. R2 is so awesome. You don’t see that prissy sidekick C-3PO with his own shorts, do you? Probably not a good idea, what with the whole “goldenrod” nickname and all. Great job Productive Slacker. They look awesome. Too bad she doesn’t make these to sell, she would make a ton of money.

Hey, nice ass-tromech. A rump like that needs a restraining bolt. These shorts would be the butt of any joke. Okay, enough.

I have to say that this little R2-D2 ballerina outfit looks pretty cute, and it’s easy to recognize the original droid. It was designed by Leeloo who works as a designer for J!NX. It looks like an awesome Halloween costume or something you could wear to cosplay adventures. She calls it the Artoo Tutu.

The Artoo Tutu is definitely distinctive. The costume was handmade last year and she’s been prancing around in it ever since. I have to say that I quite like it – though I’d never be caught dead wearing it.

Anyway, if you managed to get the R2-D2 swimsuit, then you’ll probably go bonkers for the Artoo Tutu.

I don’t know why, but I always pictured C-3PO working in a disco, spinning records, and I think this would have been his turntable of choice. R2′s technical components were done by Tex Nasty from Remix Turntable Lab and the paint and art was done by Ed Hubbs of Full Blown Kustoms using a classic Technics 1200 turntable as a starting point. Here it is in action, doing what droids do best – playing flat vinyl discs.

I love how the spinning metal platter looks like R2′s turning head when it rotates. Too bad you can’t see it when there’s a record on there. Guess you need to dig up some of those rare see-through records for the full-on droid effect.

The collection includes eggy versions of Yoda, Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt, Darth Maul, C-3P0, R2-D2, and Chewbacca. I think that the Darth Maul and R2-D2 eggs are great, though Jabba’s face is pretty classic.

It must have been quite difficult to paint these eggs with so many details. If you like them, you can probably reproduce these at home, assuming you have a steady hand – and can wait until next Easter, that is.

How can you keep all those droid parts organized and sorted out so you don’t accidentally mix up R5-D4 and R2-D2′s spare parts? Simple – just grab this R2-D2 ammo box and you’ll know exactly which droid the parts are for.

This ammo box is just the right thing for Star Wars geeks to store and carry their collectibles, games and other swag, and is a dead ringer for R2-D2 – if he were shaped like a rectangular box. This small (10″ x 7″ x 3-1/2″) metal ammo box was reclaimed from surplus and then painted to look like everyone’s favorite little droid by NoDice1904.

You can grab this custom R2-D2 ammo box over on Etsy for $45(USD) now. If I were you, I’d buy this one, then ask him to make up a C-3PO one to travel along with it.

Yep, they definitely are, and with Star Wars‘ most important maintenance droid at your feet, what could go wrong? These TOMS slippers were handpainted by artist Kara Setkiewicz.

The design of this shoe was done by Dan Hogan and handpainted by Kara. Each shoe is custom-made, so you’ll probably be the only one wearing these around your neighborhood. They look quite amazing and I can already see people virtually lining up to get theirs.

Right now, Kara has already sold several pairs and if you want yours, you’ll have to pay $125(USD) and wait at least 4 weeks. For now, there are only R2-D2 TOMS available, but I wouldn’t be surprised if more Star Wars shoes pop up because of the popularity of this design.

A while back, we featured an awesome giant LEGO R2-D2 and a motorized LEGO R2-D2, but those were both custom builds. Isn’t it about time that R2-D2, the most famous droid from the Star Wars saga, got his own official LEGO set? Damn straight it is. R2′s time is now. LEGO has revealed the LEGO Ultimate Collector Series R2-D2 and it looks like a dream come true for Star Wars and LEGO fans.

That’s right. Very soon you will be able to buy a kit and make your very own R2-D2. And it is nicely designed. This awesome set consists of over 2,100 LEGO pieces and the little astromech droid even has a rotating head, a retractable third leg and tools.

When fully-assembled, R2 measures in at over 12″ tall and 7″ wide. Oh, and he even comes with his own commemorative plaque and an R2 minifig.

The LEGO R2-D2 set will cost you around $179.99(USD) when it goes on sale this May at shop.lego.com and at LEGO stores. Recorded hologram of Princess Leia not included. Not sure if it comes with a restraining bolt or not. Nerd dreams really do come true.

C-3PO and R2-D2 are precious to the Star Wars galaxy, having saved its citizens countless times and providing comic relief in a handful of instances. You can’t put a price on their contributions. Or can you? Because these scale models of the droid duo are pretty darn expensive, what with them being made with precious metals.

The two figurines were released to <del>cash in on</del> commemorate the 35th anniversary of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope. The C3-PO figurine is hollow and only measures 1.26″ x 3.94″ x 1.89″, but it is made of pure gold. Artoo’s figurine on the other hand is made of 0.999 sterling silver, but obviously it’s even smaller than the one of C-3PO, measuring only 1.41″x2.36″x1.54″. I think I like Threepio better in his dirty <del>brass</del> golden armor.

I guess they’re reserving the pure carbonite Han Solo figurine for the 100th anniversary. The figurines are available for order from a Japanese company called Imperial Enterprises Inc.

The C3-PO figurine will cost you ¥500,000 (~$6,000 USD) while the R2-D2 figurine is being sold for ¥150,000 (approx. $1,800). If you still have extra cash, IEI is also selling an oversized 2.2lb. Star Wars coin that’s also made of sterling silver. Hit the link below for more details.

Made by Ikon Collectibles, this officially licensed, insulated R2 can cooler is perfect for keeping your soda and beer feeling like it’s still on Hoth, even if you’re stuck in the deserts of Tatooine.

At this point, it looks like the R2-D2 can cooler is selling only in Australia and New Zealand, but you might be able to pick up a wholesale lot from Ikon if you’re into that sort of thing.

R2 arrives June 2012, just in time for those warm Summer days up here in the Northern hemisphere (of course it’s winter in Australia, so go figure.)

What if R2-D2 weren’t a rotund little droid at all, and instead, he was a birdhouse? Yeah, I know it’s farfetched, but just picture it. Can’t? Well then just scroll down and through the magic of the internet, your vision will be fulfilled.

These awesomely geeky birdhouses are the creative product of one Ben Mayer, and his handmade birdhouse shop, NirdHaus. The R2-D2 birdhouse has been painted to look just like the little maintenance droid, and even has a functioning LED “optical unit” built into its facade. And if R2 isn’t enough for you, he’s accompanied by C-3PO – who just happens to be familiar with over 6 million species of birds.

R2-D2 sells for $60 (USD), while C-3PO is going for $35 – since he doesn’t have any LED or wiring to worry about.

If I actually thought I’d get anything other than nasty city pigeons landing in these things, I’d be the all over buying one. I suppose they’d look good sitting on a shelf inside too – then they won’t get all crapped up with bird droppings and bits of straw. If you want to beat me to the punch, you’d better head on over to Etsy and grab yours now.

Here’s a story that will tug on your heartstrings and make you feel so good that you might actually forget about the prequels. At least for a minute. It is a touching tale of a boy and his droid.

Matthew Grammer is a seven year-old who is undergoing treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The young boy has had a wish that surely many Star Wars fans have had. He’s always wanted to be R2-D2. It’s kind of a reverse Pinocchio story.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation, along with some big help from Little Mountain Productions of Tulsa, Oklahoma, built him his very own rideable R2-D2. Not only can Matthew fit inside the larger-than-life droid, but it’s got a joystick inside for him to drive it with. It’s also got a big “kill switch” on the outside for his parents – in case he finds himself in a swamp on Dagobah.

The video says it better than I ever could, so check it out. The Force is strong in young Matthew and we hope he recovers soon.

R2-D2 is one of the most versatile maintenance droids out there. He can project holograms, repair spaceships, hack security systems, swim through swamps, and even vacuum your carpet. But I never thought about using R2 as a fruit bowl – until now.

Artist Dave Styerd (of Geek-Lee-Tist) created this still life using R2-D2′s head as a serving bowl for some delicious grapes, bananas, apples and oranges. The blue Bantha milk is a nice touch too. I have to say it’s kind of cruel that Dave had to decapitate the little droid though. I mean, why not use R5-D4? He already had a bad motivator unit and was headed for the scrap pile. Besides, his flat head would be less likely to tip over and spill fruit onto the table.

Regardless, I’m sure this will inspire some Star Wars geek out there to make an actual R2-D2 fruit bowl using a stainless steel mixing bowl, and e-mail us a picture once they’re done with it. Right?

But I digress. This 16.5″ x 11.7″ Giclee print is the perfect thing for any Star Wars themed kitchen or dining room. Grab one over on Etsy for $15 (USD).

Bladez Toyz, that British retailer where you can meet all of your R/C helicopter needs, recently decided that it wanted to add Star Wars themed remote control items to its Pump and Play sets. LucasArts, as always, was reluctant to give licensing rights, but after a difficult series of negotiations, Bladez secured the ability to produce these toys. At the 2012 London Toy Fair, they unveiled their new R/C Jumbo Inflatable R2-D2, which will be coming some time late summer / early fall of this year.

The toy will retail for appx. $63(USD), and is a 26 inch-tall inflatable R2-D2 on wheels. A foot pump is included so that you don’t need to beat your lungs to death to satisfy your child (or yourself.) The Jumbo R2-D2 model is the first of the new Star Wars Pump and Play series – more will be coming later if the droid unit turns out to be a big hit. Now, this is all wonderful, but I need to ask – has anyone already called dibs on the Princess Leia demonstrating the toy? “I did.” *Sulking*

Pump and Play is a term that reminds me of my old days, when I used to shoot hoops with my boys. We’d pump up the ball, go out to the court, and then I would help them play by giving them water when they felt that they were thirsty. Those were good times – hey, if you think you’re falling in love with the Jumbo RC Inflatable R2-D2, you’re going to want to have a look at the R2-D2 Garbage Can and the R2-D2 Apron.

Whether you’re into Doctor Who or Star Wars (or both) – there’s a new way for you to secure your small valuables. These new digital “smartsafes” were spotted during the 2012 UK Toy Fair, and they look pretty nifty.

For starters, there’s a safe that looks just like the TARDIS, complete with all the appropriate blue Police Box details, including a flashing blue light on the roof. It looks like it’s a pretty decent size, and could hold small, but precious things like coins, jewelry or even small documents. Of course, there’s no telling if they might get transported to some other time or dimension once you put them in there and shut the door.

Star Wars fans can skip the TARDIS and go straight for the R2-D2 safe, which finally proves that there wasn’t actually a little person inside of the droid, but a hollow storage compartment perfect for holding onto your precious galactic credits and other goodies.

Each safe locks using an app which runs on your iPhone, iPod Touch or Android phone which outputs a series of blinking lights when docked – so your only key is a mobile device with your code keyed in. Of course, the biggest problem with small safes like these is that if a criminal really wanted what was inside, they could just pick it up and crack it open with a lightsaber, a sonic blaster, or a ball-peen hammer.

Both safes both come from UK watch and gadget company Zeon, and are expected in stores sometime around June.

R2-D2 was a very versatile droid, but throughout all the Star Wars saga, I don’t ever remember seeing him cooking. Even though the little droid has his own BBQ meat smoker, soy sauce dispenser and pepper mill, he’s still never in the kitchen. But that doesn’t mean that cooking wasn’t among his many talents – it’s just that everyone was too busy fighting the Empire and the Sith to stop and chow down. You, on the other hand, occasionally need to stop to cook something, and what better way to do it than wearing this spectacular R2-D2 apron.

It’s made by Etsy contributor HauteMessThreads, and perfectly captures R2′s key attributes, while still being completely serviceable as an apron. While I’d say that either a guy or girl could wear this, I think the little bows, cinched waist and v-neck make it more appropriate for girly geeks than the boys. I think it’d take a really confident man – I’m talking Boba Fett confident – to pull this thing off.

Each apron is handmade to order, and is crafted from 100% cotton, with blue and black accents. The R2-D2 apron sells for $70 (USD), but if you want an XL, you’ll need to chip in an extra 5 bucks. It’s available for order over on Etsy. C-3PO is also available, but I’d say he’s not quite as awesome as R2, which is too bad, because I always envisioned 3-PO as some sort of robot butler who would do my bidding and cook me up a nice wampa steak.
