Not so long ago Apple issued a recall on every single first generation iPod nano they built. The reason given was that they might overheat. The long and short of it was that the fear was the old things might burst into flames and Apple didn’t want any of that. No renewed memories of that battery debacle of a few years ago.

The cool part is if you have one of these 1G nanos lying around that doesn’t work – or perhaps that you never use, you can get a free exchange. That means if you have have that original nano (made between Sept. 2005 and Dec. 2006) tossed in your sock drawer you can dig it out and return it. The reason is that Apple is replacing those old and tired nanos with the new hotness that is the 6G nano. It’s not clear if the 6Gs are refurbs or not, but it’s still a great deal.

Just fill out this form and follow the directions to send your old nano in and a new (likely refurb) 6G nano will come your way in about six weeks. That means you can get yourself one of those uber-geeky nano watchbands and have yourself a ball gazing at the free upgrade Apple gave you for Christmas.

I don’t get what the deal is with notebook manufacturers over the last few years not being able to make machines that don’t over heat and burn stuff up. I guess we should be thankful that it’s not 2007 all over again with notebooks bursting into flames everywhere.

Toshiba has recalled the Satellite T135, T135D, and ProT130 notebooks due to a burn risk. The machines apparently overheat near where the AC adapter connects to the notebook. Toshiba reports that it has had 129 complaints of the machines deforming in the AC adapter area.

Of those 129 complaints, two resulted in minor burns and two in minor property damage. Toshiba has a new firmware that will disconnect the AC adapter if it detects overheating and tell the user to get the rig fixed by Toshiba. I guess you just need to hope yours doesn’t burn the house down after the new update is applied.

Whether or not you believe all of the incidents that have occurred due to a faulty wrist strap on Nintendo’s Wii controller, Nintendo certainly doesn’t want to take any chances and today issued a recall, and started offering free replacement wrist straps.

This confirms our earlier report that Nintendo had started to ship new straps with newer controllers already. To order your free replacement straps, simply fill out the form here. you’ll need your console serial number, and you won’t have to return your old straps.
