This little USB gadget from Korea makes some pretty lofty claims. Not only will it help you chill out, it could help you memorize Pi to 100,000 digits, or might turn you into the next Rembrandt. Or Obama.

The HIMS Brain HUBI biofeedback device plugs into your computer, and interactively monitors electrical impulses from your fingertips to help you control your brain into the proper state of mind to accomplish nearly anything. Now how it does this without actually attaching to your scalp, I have no idea. I’ll leave that to the scientists and snake oil salesmen to explain.

The included software lets you choose from a variety of profiles including relaxation, creativity, memory and concentration. Unfortunately modes for Jedi mind trick, levitation and that head-slashing thing that Sylar does with his fingertips aren’t included. Maybe they’ll get those working in a future model.

As you think, you do your darnedest to coordinate your brain waves with the graphs displayed on the screen. Think of it like mind-controlled Guitar Hero. Damn, that sounds like a good idea for a game – I’d better patent that.

If you want to find out exactly how much the HUBI lives up to its promises, you’ll have to exchange aboutt $206 (USD) cash for KRW 290,000 then order one from Korea to try one out. At this point, there are no plans to bring the device to North America or Europe.

Sure, we’ve all seen devices that promise to help you relax, whether with light, sound, or even aromatherapy. This new gadget out of Korea takes the kitchen sink approach to chilling out, combining all of the aforementioned techniques to get you to unwind.

The LTK-2000 Therapy Station starts out with 24 relaxing sounds in categories ranging from “concentration” to “therapy for depression” to get your mind off the din of your everyday life. Once your ears are soothed, a ring of bright blue LEDs pops out of the device to provide your eyes with a up to 5,000 lux of light therapy.

Once your eyes and ears are relaxed, your nose won’t feel left out, thanks to an array of herbal aroma cartridges which can pop into the top of the unit. If that’s not enough, the system also has a built in anion generator, which is supposed to help purify the air you’re breathing.

If this thing can’t help you to relax, you’re probably beyond hope. Now all you’ve got to do is figure out how to get one imported from Korea, and you’re all set. If you’re up for the challenge, you can find them for sale at Enfren for 378,000 KRW (that’s about $395 USD). There’s also a video of the device in action over on AVING.

So what do you suppose this strange contraption is? Could it be some kind of thought control device? Perhaps a new version of the Flowbee hair-vacuum? Maybe it’s an alien brain extraction system? Or is it just the latest fashion trend from the runways in Milan?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this goofy looking helmet is a newfangled head massager. The Head Spa claims to reduce stress and tension by increasing blood circulation and stimulating your scalp through acupressure. It does not claim however, to reduce the level of embarrassment and humiliation you’ll feel wearing it.

According to the product description: “The patented design is lightweight and easy to use while at your office desk, on the morning commute, or while enjoying your evening television program.” I think if you wore one of these on the bus or at work, you’d get hauled off to the loony bin.

If you can manage to get over the stares that’ll come your way, I bet it’s actually pretty relaxing. So head on over to Edmund Scientific and you can strap one on for just $49.95.

Here’s a unique digital media player from Japan’s Victor/JVC. It’s a completely self-contained waterproof audio system that can float in your tub.

When Victor’s XA-AQ33-W media player isn’t swimming around the bathtub with you, it can head to dry dock in a stand that sits on your bedside table. The player does its job to play up to 256MB of MP3 and WMA music through a built-in amplified speaker. It’s also got LED illumination underneath, producing a cool glow of blue light. There’s even a handful of pre-installed “relaxation tunes” to help you chill out.

The player runs on batteries, so you can even take it out to the pool if you’d like (not that I’d ever use something that plugs into an outlet in the tub). You should get about 15 hours of play on a single set of batteries.

The whole thing looks a bit spacecraft-like to me, making it perfect for that outer-space themed room I know you’re just dying to decorate.

Do you like rainbows (and ponies and lollipops too)? Now you can bring them inside your house (just the rainbows, not the ponies or lollipops, unless you have some Dum Dums or Chupa Chups lying around) with this relaxing indoor rainbow generator.

The Rainbow Stone (which looks more like a clam than a stone to me) uses a set of colored LEDs which are bounced off of a curved mirror to produce an ever-changing rainbow of <strike>fruit flavors</strike> colors. As is almost always the case with these type of gadgets, the effect works best in a totally darkened room.

Available from Korea’s Gadget8, the Rainbow Stone is currently on sale for KRW 35,000 (about $38 USD.)

Picture yourself lying on the beach, listening to the crashing waves, soaring seagulls and the squawks of far-off dolphins… Now you can bring a bit of that feeling inside your house, thanks to this new gizmo from Japan’s TakaraTomy.

The Healing Theater Umine projects watery blue and green moving images on your ceiling as it plays back digitally recorded sounds of the islands. In addition to a beach setting, the Umime can transport you deep into the rainforest along with chirping birds and a green, leafy light show, or under the sea, swimming with the fishes and a deep blue visual effect.

In addition to the built-in nature sounds, you can hook up your favorite media player and listen to your music as the images play. It also comes with a removable frosted dome that lets keeps the images from reaching the ceiling, instead creating a brighter, point lighting source.

As is always the case with the LED projectors, the effect requires a totally dark room, and probably won’t be quite as dramatic as the marketing image above. Still, it looks pretty cool. The Umine projector is available for pre-order now (shipping mid-August) from HimeyaShop for $84.

Now you can bring the famous Northern Lights inside your house with this nifty light projector from Japan.

The Genso Kukan Aurora simulates the beautiful atmospheric phenomena known as the Aurora Borealis and projects the images on your wall or ceiling.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

I’m pretty sure that its using LEDs and other optical trickery to generate its relaxing patterns of animated color. The machine measures about 6″ x 6″ x 4″ and should run for about twenty hours on three AA batteries. It even has a 30-minute sleep timer so you can set it to go right before you head off to slumberland. The projector even comes with a complimentary CD of new-age music to complete the chill-out effect.

The Aurora light can be found from Japanese importer HimeyaShop for $61 plus shipping. I have one of these on order for myself so I’ll let you know how it really looks in action once I receive mine.

[UPDATE 4/8/2007: I received my Aurora projector today, and it's pretty underwhelming. You'll need a pitch black room to really see the effect, and it really isn't effective at projecting anything more than about a two foot area of color. In my opinion, you'd be better off with a Laserpod or some Morpheus fixtures if you're looking for something more dramatic.]
