You never know what a geek is going to get up to with some old hardware on their hands and a little bit of time. Rodrigo Alonso had some donated, chopped up computer parts that were left over from obsolete machine, along with some whole computer mice and keyboards. He combined the parts with some clear resin to make something really cool.

Rodrigo took the old computer parts and layered them into a mold, and then poured in a mixture of resin and some sort of melted aluminum. The finished product is called the N+ew Stool. I’m sure that resin is hard and not particularly comfortable to sit on, but these may still be some of the coolest stools ever.

It’s hard to tell from these pictures, but I wonder if some of the computer parts stick out from the sides of the stool, or if he managed to keep the edges smooth. The parts look awful close to the sides.

The stools are a limited-edition and it’s not clear if you can buy them or what the price would be to get your own. I would think looking at the stools if you have a bunch of old computer parts lying around, can build your own form, and can get your hands on resin you could probably make one of these yourself.

Whenever I’m cooking, I find myself with at least one pot, pan or plate which is too hot to handle, and needs to go on top of a trivet to keep it from burning the place down. But trivets are usually pretty boring things, so it’s nice to see something with a bit more style and humor like this “Red Hot” trivet.

Artist Marcia Stuermer and the guys at Fossil Faux Studios make these transluscent hot pink resin trivets which are very reminiscent of the heat coming off an electric cook top. Each one measures about 8.25″ in diameter and 3/4″ thick, and is ready to handle the heat of any pot or pan you throw on top of it.

The only odd thing about these is that I think the cooking element part should be the glowing red/pink bit, and the other areas should be black. But somehow the illusion is still quite effective as-is. At $50 (USD) each, they’re not exactly the world’s cheapest trivets, but they are quite possibly the coolest. You can grab a Red Hot trivet over on Etsy now.

I think it would be fun to put four of these out on the dinner table before guests arrive and mess with their heads when you place the pots on top of them.

Just because you didn’t buy that Pac-Man watch doesn’t mean that you can’t have him dangling around on your wrist anyhow. Here’s another way to keep Pac-Man on your wrist, and for a lot less money to boot.

Handmade by ParAmour Designs, this Pac-Man and ghosts “Clearly Pac-Man” bracelet features the likenesses of the yellow dot-gobbler and his four ghostly nemeses wrapped around in a never-ending circular maze. And with no power pills, those ghosts are sure to catch up with you really fast. The bracelet design was hand-drawn as a vector image, then screened onto acetate and layered into durable clear resin – which, coincidentally, is exactly how the original arcade machine worked. I read that somewhere, I’m sure of it.

The Clearly Pac-Man bracelet is available over at ParAmour’s Etsy shop for $25 (USD). It’s either that or 100 games of Pac-Man if you can still find an arcade anywhere. Decisions, decisions.

I just got invited to a formal wedding this Fall, and have been stymied as to what I would wear since it’s been about 15 years since I had to wear a tuxedo to anything. While I still might have to rent a tux and bow tie, at least I know what I’ll be wearing on my sleeves.

How could you resist going out on a night on the town with these great Pac-Man cufflinks on your wrists? Handmade by Sarah Lynne Designs, they feature the likeness of Pac-Man on one cuff and a blue ghost (presumably spawned after a tasty power pill) on the other.

Sarah makes the cufflinks from sturdy brushed aluminum and then coats them with a heavy-duty resin for that glossy sheen. The intricate character designs are made from hand sculpted wire and paint, while the dots are made from teeny, tiny beads.

You can find these and other cool contemporary jewelry over on Sarah’s Etsy shop.

It seems like most gamer gear is oriented towards dudes, so it’s nice to see the occasional accessory for girls who like to get their game on. On one side, this contemporary necklace features a feminine cherry blossom design, but flip it over and it shows off your true gamer spirit with the image of a classic Nintendo NES controller.

Michigan artist Sarah Lynne handcrafts her necklaces and other jewelry designs using aluminum, wire, paper and paint, then coats them with a highly polished resin glaze that takes three days to complete. Each piece she makes is unique, so you’ll need to move fast if you want the exact one in the picture above.

You can find her Nintendo necklace (and many other cool original pieces, like these Pac-man earrings) over on Etsy for $45.
