I always think of the people that work at the White House as a bunch of bah humbug sorts that have no fun. I might have to change my notions of these political folks though. A White House Correspondent named David Wiggs was sitting though another correspondent brief when he tweeted what he thought.

Wiggs tweeted, “This WH correspondence briefing isn’t nearly as entertaining as yesterday’s.” That seems innocent enough, but someone at the White House had a devilish streak and tweeted back “Sorry to hear that. Fiscal policy is important, but can be dry sometimes. Here’s something more fun: http://tinyurl.com/y8ufsnp“

The fun part was that Wiggs got Rickrolled by the White House. Wiggs noted later that someone had already told him what the link was to before he clicked it, but still pranking from the White House is great. Now if we can just get someone to prank the VP. If Obama would short sheet the VP’s bed it would go a long way towards redeeming him in my eyes.

Recently, Zug pulled a little prank – in outer space. It’s probably not the first prank in space as I bet the astronauts aboard the ISS and other spacecrafts have already pulled some pranks on each other. However, it is the first known Rickroll in space.

The prank involved a homemade setup that included a weather balloon, some digital cameras, and a lot of helium. The flying contraption was then sent into the stratosphere, Rickrolling the entire planet.
Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The homemade “Astleyroid” went up nearly 90,000 feet (17 miles!) before the weather balloon popped, and the gear fell back to earth. It’s kind of amazing that the balloon made it all the way into space. Too bad they didn’t do this back in 2007, when people still cared about Rickrolling.

I like high tech stuff that is easy to use and looks sort of like magic. Such is the case with the new Slurp device that turned up today. It’s a squeezy dropper that has some tech gear grafted onto it.

If you watch the video, you will see that when you put the dropper section near a file on your computer screen and squeeze, the file is transferred to the device or at least across the network. When you go to another computer, you can squeeze the dropper and the file is placed onto the other machine.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The dude in the video then turns and squeezes the bulb and sends the file he has been moving to a set of speakers. Guess what plays- Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up. Any geek worth his salt knows that is the infamous Rickroll tune. I call BS. What do you think?

Oh, Rickrolling, aren’t we finished with you yet? Apparently not, since there is now an Instructables post on how to make a sneaky Rickroll birthday cake.

The cake was made by one Papersatan (a pretty fitting name for a perpetrator of Astley-based crimes, eh?) for her boyfriend’s birthday. She made a fake cake-like covering out of a hatbox, which when removed reveals a real cake with Rick Astley’s (sort of) likeness and those catchy lyrics etched in icing.

It’s bad enough to be Rickrolled on your Internets, but on your birthday? Now that’s just mean.
