I once went on a trip with my sisters which was so poorly and haphazardly planned, that we ended up reaching our destination country with an unconfirmed hotel booking, headaches, and extremely hot tempers. We ended up wasting half the night looking for a vacant hotel near the area. Suffice it to say, the rest of the trip went <del>well</del> better and we ended up <del>not biting each other’s heads off</del> having quite a lot of fun.

If only there were one of these Sleepboxes as our destination’s airport. We could have crashed for a few hours and prevented the first wave of panicking that began when we realized that we had no place to sleep in for the night. (And trying to go for a power nap in those uncomfortable airport seats wasn’t even an option.)

So what exactly is a Sleepbox? Well, these are personal, portable boxes that can be placed virtually anywhere people might need to get some emergency shuteye (like airports, convention centers, shopping centers, among others). They can be rented out from periods of half an hour to half a day, depending on the people in charge of them.

These were originally thought up in 2009 by Russia-based Arch Group. This year, they revamped the designs and updated the look of the Sleepboxes, with some of them having storage space for luggage, sockets for charging devices, reading lamps, electric blinds, Wi-Fi capabilities, a safety deposit box, and even a touchscreen TV. It’s like a hotel room, without the toilet and bath and room service.

Of course, one concern is the maintenance of the Sleepboxes, like who’s going to change the sheets after one occupant leaves to make way for the next one. But I think it’s still a pretty neat idea overall, and one that I’d love to see become successful.

I have about six different computers around here along with a hoard of old hardware that is just crammed into boxes. Artist Marek Tomasik has taken three years of his old computer parts and used them to make a room that is creepy, cool, and reminds me of the Borg all at once. Apparently, the parts are from about three years worth of computers.

With all the stuff I have around here, I might be about to build myself a new house with all the parts I have. Some of the stuff I see doesn’t look that much like computer parts and I suspect that there are way more computers in this room than most of us would have from three years of upgrading. I also see some parts like that wheel that didn’t come off any computer I am familiar with.

It would make an awesome basement game room though or a geeky office. The room is 5m x 4m x 4.5m and the parts are placed inside of wall made from wooden studs. The walls have a lot of space between the computer parts so unless you’re comfortable with your body you won’t want to go walking naked through this room.

For starters I’ll mention that I’m not sure from whence these photos originate, but when I saw them over on Russian casemod site Modding.Ru, I had to post them. From the looks of these pics, it looks like a tiny little family has moved into this warm and cozy computer living room and set up their home.

The PC Living Room (or is that Living Room PC) is furnished tiny little dollhouse furniture, including a sofa, a comfy chair, and even a little lamp that plugs into one of the PC’s accessory power circuits. I love the little details like the gumball machine, a bottle of Coke and the New York Times paper sitting on one of the chairs. All they need is a couple of mini arcade games, and they’d be all set.

And is that a box of Cracker Jacks sitting on the side table? That reminds me – what the hell is the deal with the prizes in Cracker Jacks these days? Who the hell thinks a 2 cent piece of paper with some folding die cuts is a “prize”? Not me. I mean really, once they eliminated the choking hazard, it was all downhill for me. Anyway, I digress…

Thankfully, they decided to leave the side off the computer so the PC’s tiny occupants won’t overheat or suffocate. That would be a real mess to clean up.

(P.S. If any of you guys know who originally shot these photos, I’d be happy to give credit where credit is due.)

When I get my own house, I’d like to have a couple of game rooms in it. A game room with a projector for playing PES or Rock Band or NBA 2k15, and another smaller game room for playing RPGs. Dream, dream, dreee-eam, dreee-ee-eeam. That’s why I envy Youtube user Tchazzar, because he was able to set up his own Xbox 360 game room, complete with logos on the walls, a mini-fridge, and dimmable green LED lights.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

His expenses:

TV, Xbox 360, TV Table, Surround Sound=$3000

LED’s,LED Driver,LED Dimming switch = $ 170

Rug = $ 120

Mini Fridge = $ 108

Chairs = $ 100

Floor stuff = $ 85

Paint, logos, glass etching = $90

Not bad right? I think it’s cool that he didn’t end up spending more for the decorations and miscellaneous stuff than for the console, TV and speakers. After all, it’s a game room, not a decorations and miscellaneous stuff room.

If you listen closely to Tchazzar, you’ll realize, as I did, that he sounds a hell of a lot like Adam Sandler. “Heeerre we have the shpeakersss, shpeaker up tooooop,uuuhh, more shpeakers, surround speakers…”

That was pointless and not helpful at all. But seriously: listen to his voice. Adam Tchazzar. Tchazzar Sandler.

Only trouble is, gee whiz, I’m dreamin’ my life away…
