The 50/50 Savings Bank For People Who Don’t Know Where Their Money Should Go

I was raised by my parents to be an extremely thrifty girl. And I ~~was~~ am one, unless I find myself face-to-face with these items that I simply cannot walk away from: clothes, shoes, makeup, accessories, or perfume. (Thank goodness I’m not really into cars or jewelry.) Of course, I’ve learned how to balance my finances and just spend the enough (and sensible) amount of money every month.

But sometimes, I find myself wanting two things at once and being unable to decide which item I should save for first. I’m thinking this 50/50 Savings Bank could help a lot in my decision making, because I wouldn’t really be deciding anything at all.

It sort of works like one of those Plinko-style games where you drop a token (or in this, your loose change) in a slot above and it just goes plinking down a random side. To make sure you don’t accidentally (or purposefully) switch the funds up to buy whatever it is you want, you can write down what each side is for on the wipe-clean eraser boards on the front. The huge downside is that you can only (and obviously) save up using coins and not bills.

Japanese toymaker TakaraTomy plans on releasing the exploding piggy bank just in time for the New Year, so you can start out 2008 right by keeping your resolution to save more money. It’ll cost about ¥3,000 yen, or about 2,700 pennies if you’re already starting to save up for one.
