This whimsical crocheted scarf by Michigami Creations is based on the classic arcade shooter, Galaga – which just so happens to be one of my favorite games of all time. As a matter of fact, I still occasionally boot up MAME on my Dingoo (boy, does that sounds weird) to play a late-night round of the old boy.

Unfortunately for you guys, I already bought this one (for just $20 bucks), so you’ll have to hope you can convince Miss Michigami to make you another one. You could always pick up her Pac-Man, Zelda Triforce or Chocobo or Weighted Companion Cube scarves before they get snatched up.

For gamer girls out there, crafter/Mario fanatic/Technabob follower Mindy (a.k.a. “enemyairship”) has been kind enough to share the details of her Piranha Plant pattern if you want to make your own scarf.

Now if only I could find that Fire Flower neck tie I left sitting around here somewhere…

She said that she made this scarf to complement a Mario scarf that she also made. But then she didn’t like the back of the scarf with all the ends weaved in, so she made a pocket! I don’t understand how that solves things – or what the problem was to begin with -  but yay for you Gege Crochet!

As you can see a DS fits nicely into the pocket. Gege says that “the DS provides a nice heft to the scarf, so if you are walking down the road and are mugged by one of Bowser’s minions, you can swing the scarf and whack them in the head.” And that’s what scarves are for.

While Gege’s crafting skills are enviable, what I really envy about her is that she lives somewhere cold enough that she can wear a scarf, because I’m being boiled alive back here. I think the sun moved in next door. My sweat is sweating. People are spontaneously evaporating outside.

So why is this particular scarf head and shoulders (and, uh, necks) above the rest? Not only does it put the iconic Guitar Hero look on perfect display, but that note highway actually corresponds to a song from Guitar Hero 3: “Knights of Cydonia” by Muse. Creator meekssandygirl crocheted the scarf for her husband, and wanted it to be accurate and unique, so she chose one of his favorite songs. The result? Made of pure Star Power.

Handcrafted by Edinburgh textile artist Catriona McLaughlin (aka Wildcat Designs), this new Space Invaders scarf (version 2.0) improves upon her original design with bigger, bolder invaders which can be seen from much further away.

No actual Space Invaders were harmed in the making of these scarves, instead each one is made from soft and fuzzy 100% Merino lambswool from Scotland. Measuring about 70-inches long, the 2.0 version is also about 10 inches longer than the original, keeping your neck just that much warmer.

Created by El Paso crafter Beatboxtaun, the scarf features the likenesses of two of the game’s pixelated pugilists. At $175, it’s not cheap, but the scarf represents many, many hours of hand crocheting.
