Sometimes technology can lead to new problems, like how to keep track of all of your memory cards and keep them neatly in one place. I love simple solutions and here is a great example. This microSD card holder will keep all of your memory cards neatly organized and easy to retrieve.

microSD cards measure just 15mm x 11mm, and that means they are easy to lose in couch cushions, easy to be sucked up by vacuums and just easy to lose period. This holder will solve all of your problems.

This holder is about the size of a credit card and holds up to 10 microSD cards, and one microSD-to-SD adapter. Memory cards lock in place, so they are secure. It’s just $7(USD) from Amazon. A good simple solution to one of life’s problems.

The SDCard HxC Floppy Emulator can replace just about any old 34-pin floppy drive, allowing older computers and electronic gear to read data from a modern SD card. Designed by Jean-François DEL NERO, the HxC Floppy Emulator has been tested to work with PC, Atari ST, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Thomson, MSX, ZX Spectrum series computers among others, and they continue to add support for more devices like synthesizers and samplers. It just plugs in where the device’s old floppy drive once sat, allowing you to read up to 2GB from and SD or 32GB from an SDHC card. The drive can even emulate two drives at once too.

It even emulates the head stepper motor sound of a 3.5″ floppy drive, as you can hear in the video below:

The HxC SD Floppy Emulator sells for $109.99 (USD) over on eBay.

Superheroes and saving go hand in hand, so it was only a matter of time before a storage device branded as such came out. From Iomega, House of Storage, comes the SuperHero charging dock. It doubles as a backup device for photos and contacts from an iPhone (3G and above) with the help of its sidekick, SD Card… Man. It can also store photos from an iPod Touch (2nd Gen and above).

It even has its own comic book, though it would have been funnier if the avatar had the dock for its head, instead of the generic male hero mug.

The SuperHero is used in conjunction with a free app. It’s not yet in the App Store, but the SuperHero itself isn’t for sale yet either. The backup process is not fully automatic but it is straightforward. The dock and the app are also needed to restore files.

Click to View Embedded Video Clip

The SuperHero will cost $70 (USD), and will come with a 4GB SD Card so you can start saving your files out of the box. Of course there are cheaper software alternatives like PhoneView – which is actually much more versatile than the SuperHero – but at least with this device you don’t need a computer to backup and restore your files.

I really like my iPad but I have no illusions that the thing is perfect. There are many details I would change about the tablet if I could. One of those things is support for a memory card if for nothing other than putting photos onto my iPad and other things like music. It would be great if the memory card could be used for storage too.

Apple has the iPad Camera Connection Kit that adds USB to the iPad for directly connecting your camera. A company called MIC Gadget has unveiled its own accessory that is similar to that official Apple camera kit and the MIC Gadget offering is called the 3-in-1 iPad Camera Connection Kit. The thing adds a USB port for your camera like the official Apple accessory.

However, it also adds a microSD card reader also with a normal SD card reader for your memory card needs. This is about as close as we are likely to an integrated memory card reader on the iPad.

You can pre-order in black or white colors for $29.90 and the thing is set to ship sometime after Christmas.

If Arnie ever gets his muscle tone back, he should do a flick combining James Belushi with Terminator and call it Raw Steel. I think I might watch that. Raw Steel might sound like an action movie, but it’s actually a rugged SD card for your camera.

As you might gather from the name, the card has metal in its construction with a metal plate in the front. The card is also made with epoxy in its construction making it waterproof. That means you could snap the pics of Skynet before you fall into the cooling pond under the reactor and at least when the camera breaks the resistance can still recover the images.

Most of the details on the Raw Steel card are thin, we do know it will land this month. How much it will cost is unknown. We can tell from the image that it’s 16GB capacity and has class 10 speed so burst shooting should be doable.

Macworld Senior Editor Roman Loyola posted a video guide showing how one can install Apple’s OS X Leopard on an SD card. The new Macbook Pros (save for the 17-in) come with an SD card slot, so you can install apps on the SD card and boot from it if for instance you want to perform repairs on the internal hard drive. It’s a very straightforward guide, a format-this-and-install-that affair, but nonetheless helpful for non-techies.

Without fiddling with a Leopard installer’s disk image and throwing some stuff out, you’ll need at least an 8 Gb SD card to make a portable Leopard installation.

Wasn’t that easy? Now all you need to do is wreck your internal disk so you’ll have a reason to boot from the SD! I’m kidding. And before anyone asks, no, you can’t boot a PC with this card.

You know how karaoke is really fun until someone drinks a little too much and starts majorly hogging the mic for their less-than-moving versions of American Pie and N*Sync B-sides? Now you can shut them down with cold, hard facts about their blood alcohol content, by employing this sneaky breathalyzer microphone.

This nifty project was created by Randy at F.A.T. He says, “The breathalyzer microphone is a system for the inconspicuous collection of blood-alcohol content level data sets. In other words, you can measure a person’s sobriety with a device, that for all intents and purposes, looks no different than a standard microphone.”

He kindly put the how-to up on Instructables, in case you’re inspired to make one of these for use on your drinking buddies. In essence, you rip a cheap karaoke mic apart, add some wires to the XLR and the switch, make a tricky bracket, attach it to an alcohol sensor you previously ordered from Thailand, and voila. To make it portable, you can use a tape deck or something else to hide a datalogger and arduino.

Then you just have someone talk or sing into the microphone, and use a computer to get the SD card readings to get the info. Now you know fo’ sho’, that mofo is DRUNK. And you have computer data to prove it to him.
